Aruba Instant On managed switch doesn't recognize POE hat Raspberry PIs Posted: 26 Nov 2021 02:08 PM PST Hi! I have four Raspberries, mounted on a Uctronics rackmount which includes POE hats. Until recently I powered them using a 5-port TP-Link switch (connected to my non-POE main switch), which worked flawlessly. Last week I replaced all my switches with a new 24-port managed POE switch (Aruba Instant On JL683A). This new switch seems to work perfectly, with one exception: it doesn't appear to recognise the devices in any way - the switch ports to which the PIs are connected are marked as empty\unused (and they won't power on). Has anyone of you experienced similar issues? Any feedback would be more than welcome as I haven't been able to troubleshoot the problem myself (this is my first managed switch - i tried to fiddle around with the power management mode options, to no avail). Which free dynamic DNS service do you prefer? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 11:33 AM PST My use case is just having a name I can use so I can remote access into my home network. I just want something that can keep up when my ISP IP address dynamically changes. It won't be something I share so the URL doesn't need to be pretty. [link] [comments] |
Any solutions for bypassing CGNAT? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 01:05 PM PST I have a minecraft server at home and can only be accessed by users of the ISP as mine within our area. This limits how much people I can invite to connect to and this CGNAT prevents it. I have called the shitty support of the ISP and told me they doesn't have the previliges and just hung up on me. And just today, another ISP which has better support and infrastructure just laid their fiber lines and thinking of switching to it soon after our lock-in period. I have also looked it up online but it uses VPN services which can greatly affect response times. Anyone who experienced this and bypassed it? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Why would my house have more Ethernet cables in the networking room than ports in the house? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:19 PM PST I just moved into a new house that's new construction and my house has 4 cat6 Ethernet ports throughout. However, in the house there are 6 Ethernet cables in the networking room. Any idea what the 2 extra cables may be for? [link] [comments] |
Ethernet keystone congestion/fit on 6-keystone decora insert? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 08:30 AM PST Hello community, long time listener, first time caller here... I'm planning out Cat6 runs in my older home, and planning on keystone terminations throughout. I have an ambitious plan to pull 6 drops in the family room for media devices. I'm hoping to use a single-gang mud ring for ethernet drops, leaving wall space for additional boxes for brush plates, power, etc. My question: has anyone used 6-keystone decora inserts? I've read that many ethernet keystones don't fit well side by side, and want to hear your experience, o alternatives used. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Was my router hacked? Netgear Nighthawk R7000 Posted: 26 Nov 2021 02:51 PM PST Hi all, my Netgear Nightwhawk R7000 has been really terrible over the last couple of months, and today when it reset I was prompted with this page I have never seen this before despite the fact that my router has been unreliable, so i was wondering if 1) i have been hacked and 2) what (if anything) i should do i have already ordered a replacement (different company), but wanted to know if there is anything i should be concerned about in the meantime. thank you! EDIT: I MEAN REBOOT, NOT RESET! [link] [comments] |
Router to use with CLink Gig Fiber Posted: 26 Nov 2021 11:50 AM PST I currently have a er-4 but I want to get rid of it between lack of hardware nat, and feeling like ubnt has abandoned it since there hasn't been any substantive features / firmware in a while. I was looking at a Cisco asr1001 but a bit too expensive too much power draw. My requirements are has to support vlans and pppoe and gigabit. I'd really like to do a Cisco router but the ones that support gig quickly are out of budget (500 bucks max) [link] [comments] |
I have 10gbps internet, what the hell do I do with it? Posted: 25 Nov 2021 03:15 PM PST I work for a Fiber ISP, yesterday my tech and I just finished splicing everything to connect my house and neighbors. I now have 10gbps coming into my UDMPRO what do I do with it that I couldn't do before? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 10:55 AM PST Moved into a 1800 SQft house but my AT&T install is literally on a far corner. My office / gaming room is in the opposite corner, AT&T refuses to come out to relocate the modem (even paying) as they see nothing wrong with it. I have their BGW320 gateway but the speeds start to drop and in my case, I get 110 mbps/1000 at the xbox wirelessly. I can't hard wire for the time being due to being on a rental. Bought the eero pro 6 2pack for $299 on sale today and placed it in the office and ran ethernet from it to my xbox and now get 300-500mbps plus great speeds around the house. Thinking TP link AX5700 from costco ($280 on sale) to see if I can get better performance and return the eeros or vice versa. It also has a 2.5Gig port which I think will help catch the full gig or any over provisioning on AT&Ts part. Staying away from orbi due to many bad reviews related to SW updates and tech support. Anyone have any suggestions on Tri band 2 pack mesh units for under $350? I saw this Asus XT8 that is well reviewed but everyones recommending a specific SW version as the newer updates are broken. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Bypass CGNAT on home network plus use it as vpn server Posted: 26 Nov 2021 11:47 AM PST I had openVPN on my home network router so I can connect to home and watch TV (locked on home network) over an app. Now i am moved behind CGNAT. Is there any way to setup VPN client on asus RT-ax55 to conect to some vpn server, but also have VPN server on it for traffic? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
TP-Link ER605 Load Balancing router Posted: 26 Nov 2021 07:10 PM PST Is it possible to route the gaming and video traffic so specific WAN (E.g. 1)? and then when this WAN (E.g. 1) has lost internet connection it will failover to another WAN (E.g. 2) and when internet came back the gaming and video traffic will go back to WAN (E.g. 1)? switch to non Swann NVR and keep cameras Posted: 26 Nov 2021 07:09 PM PST I consider Camcet or other but they say I should check if I can connect to the cameras... the NVR works fine, and the mobile app connects. but from desktop (on network) cannot connect for whatever reason. the UX and notifications are so bad and unreliable connection (only phone somehow works, nothing else) that I wanted to switch. how do I figure out the IP of the cameras so that I can try to connect directly with VLC and know that the camcet nvr will work? Getting rid of a switch (Aruba 2530) Posted: 26 Nov 2021 01:09 PM PST The previous home owner left a (at least to me) pretty complex home networking setup that I used for a while before setting up my own, simpler one. Now I'm left with a HP Aruba 2530-8G PoE+ switch that I'm thinking of selling. Thing is its clear and reset buttons seem to be broken, and I'm unsure whether or not it's safe to sell the equipment without properly factory restoring it. I'm guessing there's probably another way to reset it too, but that would be way above my skill level. What kind of user data could be stored inside this box? [link] [comments] |
Placement of my mesh system. Need some help. Posted: 26 Nov 2021 06:18 PM PST With the limitations of how my home is setup and furniture placement. I've come up with 2 possible locations for my gateway Eero to be placed. 1) this one has the best line of sight. On the TV stand next to a TV and sometimes behind one, when I decide to play and watch at the same time. 2) On a shelf. In a corner. Having to go through multiple walls and things like a refrigerator, bathroom with mirrors etc. thing one has the Eero more centrally located too. I understand both options aren't the most ideal, but if I you had to pick 1. Which of the 2 would you do? [link] [comments] |
Add internet service to storage room Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:12 AM PST I have a storage room that I would like to add a security camera to that I want to be able to check very infrequently. I would like to avoid the $60/mo fee that comes with a regular internet connection from an ISP. I currently use OPNsense on a Protectli box and saw that there is an option to get a LTE modem added to one but the overall cost would be $300+. The storage room is in a separate location from my home. Can anyone think of some creative solutions or more cost effective options? I was hoping to purchase a plan through my cell provider for the service since it is cheaper. [link] [comments] |
1500sqft 60’s split level router/mesh Posted: 26 Nov 2021 05:39 PM PST So i have a 1500ft split level house and I was wondering what the best thing to do was. i switched recently to cox 500mbps over cable and have just been using the modem/router/ap combo they sent use while i try to figure out how to better network the house. There are a couple coax outlets leftover from the former cable company i used including one in the playroom downstairs which is one of the places that has kinda bad connection so i was assuming I could use MoCa to connect the coax cables from the new router to the old wiring and get an ap wired that way for downstairs. my office is where my gaming setup is at is upstairs directly above it is another area I'd like better connection, I already get a solid 40mbps at 12ms but id like to increase it upstairs in general. there is only one coax outlet upstairs, but its in another persons bedroom to the side behind a tv so i cant really put anything there so I was wondering what my best bet would be to do, should I get a 3 pack of mesh routers setup to put one in the main room where the router is right now one upstairs and one downstairs or do you think i can get away with just getting a better router like the tp link ax3200 or 1800 / do that and setup extenders with their "one mesh" or whatever they call it or is there another option? Also, I tried out power-line and it increased the speed in the office to 80 but kept the same ping but I'm thinking ill just return it since it didn't bring that much uplift for the problems i might have. Thanks peeps! Edit: whichever option i should choose can i have some specific product recommendations? I dont want to spend too much like keep it under 200 and want to take advantage of black friday Edit 2: I need good speeds and low latency and wifi 6 because im gonna be doing wireless VR via quest 2 from my pc and virtual desktop/air link which ive heard needs good speeds [link] [comments] |
Client capacity on Edimax EW-7478APC Posted: 26 Nov 2021 01:15 PM PST I've searched high. I've searched low. But nowhere could I find what is the WiFi client capacity for an Edimax EW-7478APC. In particular AP mode. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:53 PM PST Hey everyone, I am sure this gets asked a lot, but since it is black friday and I am looking at routers I was hoping to get some advice. I have Xfinity internet with 250 DL speeds. I have roughly 40 or so devices and growing in my network as I upgrade to smart home devices. I live in a two story home with roughly 1200sqft per home. House is brick and roughly 60 years old. Any suggestions? My main concern is being able to manage the number of devices I have reliably as my current router seems to be struggling [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:50 PM PST I have two PCs one running Windows and one running Linux both on the home wifi along with a dozen or so smart devices (lights, tv, ...) To remove latency from X Windows and things and speed up big file transfers I also connected both to each other by way of a gigabyte hub and two cables. That mostly works.... Except that when both are attached both to wifi and to ethernet:
With the above, I figure

Laptop keeps disconnecting from wi-fi Posted: 26 Nov 2021 10:48 AM PST So, as my titel says, my laptop keeps disconnecting from wi-fi and won't connect back unless I power cicle the router. The thing is, every other device connected to the same router works fine. After running IPConfig in my laptop I can see that the laptop is assigned a APIPA address wich telll me DHCP is down but just for the laptop which makes no sense since if that were true no device could connect to the internet. Anyone has some ideias on what the problem might be and how to solve it, (besides turning the router off and on again) [link] [comments] |

Need help with some router purchasing information Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:35 PM PST Hey guys, my router is dying and I was wondering if anyone could help me with some purchasing options. I understand the basics of networking and routers and whatnot but I couldn't find a recent purchasing guide anywhere that didn't purely talk about specs over actual quality of the item and use. I know the basics but not more in depth for certain things. I game a lot and do alot of file transfers and have a lot of smart devices on the network. I also have a basic Plex server that I use on my local network to multiple devices. I just haven't really followed router upgrades and don't know where to begin to help me maximize my use scenarios. I have 1500 square foot house and would like better coverage because my router isn't centrally located. I know that's a lot of specific scenarios and that's exactly why I just keep getting lost researching. I always just had a basic light grade consumer router but my use cases has gone up in the last few years and I would like to invest in a more premium router, around 200-300 dollars. I know it's a lot to ask and I'm sorry if I'm missing some information on here that has been posted already. I tried to research for a few months before asking but I just am so confused on more technical aspects. [link] [comments] |
Adding a WAP to my NETGEAR ORBI Posted: 26 Nov 2021 12:49 PM PST Hey everybody, I am new to home networking and want to learn more about it by doing stuff at home. So, I have a NETGEAR orbi that is a modem/router. I switched from the NETGEAR c7000v2 (also a modem/router). With that in mind, I wanted to see if anybody knew how I could get the NETGEAR c7000v2 to act as a WAP for some wifi cameras that I have. First of all, would this be doable? Second, would it be a good way to avoid congestion the wifi on the NETGEAR orbi or would it make sense to do something else? Any input is welcome. As stated im new to this and want to learn as much as I can. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:32 PM PST I'm thinking if upgrading from an AirPort Extreme to a mesh WiFi, which would be on a wireless backhaul. Covering 2 stories, 2400 sq ft, modem/router is in downstairs and trying to get better coverage to upstairs opposite corner and to an outdoor floodlight cam. I think 2 component might be enough, but was curious if I use 3, does each device have to connect to the router or can a satellite connect to another satellite? Have 4 computers and maybe 10 "smart" type devices connected. Appreciate any advice/experience regarding these two options. [link] [comments] |
