Props to Android's newer features Posted: 27 Nov 2021 08:07 AM PST I am security and privacy conscious when it comes to my devices. When Google revealed its newest features in Android 12 that pertained to security and privacy, most of them seemed like they existed for marketing purposes alone. Disabling camera and microphone access for all apps and services isn't something that I think the grand majority of people would do. Yet, they went the extra mile of throttling the other sensors when microphone access is disabled to make it more difficult for those other sensors' data to have a microphone-like readout. So that's nice. The Privacy Dashboard also seemed kinda useless, but like another user has found, it's useful for me. Seeing fringe apps have permissions that don't need them makes me go 😠And then there's disabling your advertising ID, which doesn't solve the issue of apps fingerprinting you altogether, but it's nice to have the choice. Really, I should be giving props to Apple for doing this first and possibly encouraging Google to do it too. Besides that, there's scoped storage and Project Treble and other stuffs but they're not too new so I don't want to get into them. But I am pleased with Android's efforts and I hope they continue. What phone you had the best experience with haptic feedback? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:34 AM PST For me, it is the Xiaomi 11 ultra LG V60 and Oneplus 7P. I use to turn off the haptics even chance I got over the years to save a little battery and its use to annoy with keyboards. When I got the Oneplus 7P people were talking about the haptic feedback. With Oneplus 7P that was amazing during gaming but the regular system function wasn't much different from mid-tier phone haptics in my experience. The V60 was the 1st time I truly valued the haptics, Unlocking with a fingerprint scanner playing with camera settings and turning the volume dial in music apps felt natural. The Mi 11 Ultra same as the LG V60 the haptics feel natural, The interaction UI is amazing. The Haptics is not as strong in the camera app as the LG which I kinda missed. I feel Haptics are a bit underrated. I hope in future android updates will allow it to interact with more apps and games. [link] [comments]
Would you use a phone that no longer receives security updates? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 12:43 PM PST I finally caved in and switched my primary device from my beloved KEY2 to a Pixel 5. The KEY2 has gotten 3 full years of security updates (impressive for a TCL device) but that has now ended, with August 2021 being the last update. In the past, I never paid any attention to security updates, I didn't care about them in the slightest. What mattered to me was: Do I actually enjoy the device I'm currently using, even after the initial "honeymoon" period? Now, thanks to some fear mongering about device vulnerabilities after EOL on a certain BlackBerry oriented forum, I felt compelled to put down my KEY2 and pick up a slab phone. Also one that supports 5G because apparently LTE-only phones won't get reliable enough signal starting early next year when 3G shuts down. What about you? Are you comfortable daily driving a phone that has reached end of life in terms of security patches? If yes, what steps do you take to reduce risk? [link] [comments]
Small trick to get Youtube app to work with older android... Posted: 27 Nov 2021 12:46 AM PST So Youtube have basically blacklisted all old ver with the "no dislike" ... but if you remove updates and reinstall you can launch it from the play store Very stupid but it works, but when you close it , it will show the same lame blacklisted screen saying to upgrade or use browser , so you have to do it everytime ,this is just for old androids firmware that cant go any higher [link] [comments] |
