    Samsung Privacy

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:31 PM PDT

    Hello,

I've been a iOS user for quite a long time and i loved the Galaxy Z Flip 3, but i'm concerned about it's privacy. I wanted to clarify some things before buying it:

Do i lose warranty if i change the ROM and the OS?

What kind of data are you forced to give samsung to use basic features? ( I have short experiences with samsung phones (s6 edge, s10, note 20 and s20fe), and i always found the prompts that you can't deny really invasive)

If you can help me, i would really appreciate it.

PS. Not doing anything illegal, im just paranoid and I hate personalized marketing and "custom experiences".

    Play store keeps downgrading

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 10:30 PM PDT

Okay. I've got a pixel 3xl. The play store keeps downgrading itself, which causes my Bluetooth and wifi to crash. Then my system ui will crash and my phone restarts itself. Once I can get the play store to update to the aug 1st version, this all stops, but then as if by fucking magic, the play store downgrades itself again and the nightmare starts all over. I'm at my goddamned wits end here, does anyone have any clue as to how to make this shit stop??!! I've done the whole clearing caches and resetting network...I've factory reset my phone so many times I lost count. and nothing helps. I'm about to set this phone on fire.

    Problem Editing Music Files

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 08:08 PM PDT

    Hello,

It seems that I am no longer able to edit songs with Star Music Editor anymore. I've downloaded songs from multiple websites that convert YouTube videos into mp3 format. I've done that for years.

Now, I am unable to edit them. Did Android block that feature?

    Thanks.

    Deleting contact-specific notification categories

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 03:58 PM PDT

Hi there, I am brand new to Android, just switched over from iOS and I am having trouble managing notifications. I use WhatsApp, and tried to make two contacts "Priority" to see their messages above everyone else's.

However, this only made it worse, since Whatsapp always sends all unread conversations on every notification, and the "priority" conversations just get buried under them. I tried telling the system to use the app default, but it instead created a new category all on its own for these contacts, how can I get rid of these categories and return to the default functionality?

Here is what it shows me (contacts are blurred out) http://imgur.com/a/igFbXXu

Full system image backup with root but without TWRP

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 03:58 PM PDT

I'm running Lineage 18.1 on a OnePlus 8T, and I am rooted with Magisk. There's no TWRP build for my phone, so I'm using Lineage's recovery. I'd like to take a full system backup similar to what TWRP can do, but from my computer via ADB or something like that. (Doesn't have to be from the PC, I just assume it'll need to be.)

I found this guide, which looks promising, but it's four years old and I assume Android's file structure has changed in that time. It also doesn't say anything about how to restore the backup, which I would need.

How can I take a full system image backup with root, but without TWRP?

Just changed carriers from Community Cellular to T-Mobile. Now getting calls marked "Scam Likely" instead of just being marked " Suspected Spam". Is this change due to something new Google and Android is doing or is it because T-Mobile handles suspected spam differently?

    Favicon problem

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:23 AM PDT

Google's favicon has for some reason been swapped to an F on my android device. This appears to be the favicon of a site called fartice. Any idea on how to fix this? Thank you in advance! Edit: I fixed the problem by deleting Google's data from the Settings in my phone.

    Google Play store keeps restarting

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:19 AM PDT

OnePlus 8 running Android 11. Every time I open the play store, it gets into a loop of restarting every 2 seconds or so, and never stops. Found a few threads online about it from years past, but no solutions were ever posted. Anyone had this issue?

Is Samsung Galaxy S20 FE the one for me?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:53 PM PDT

I'm interested in buying this phone and I'd appreciate if you could answer my questions:

    A little about me

I'm a privacy oriented user who likes to disable Google play store, play services etc and use fdroid and aurora for my needs. So I'll be fiddling a lot with my phone like nuking Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc. I don't root my phones or install custom roms ( just letting you know because I'm aware Samsung will permanently void my warranty)

    1) Touch screen/ display issues: We have Android 11 out of the box here but most issues I've seen is on Android 10. I've also seen numerous posts in r!Galaxy_S20 about the display failing after a year.

    2) Bloat ware: Can I uninstall stock apps as I please? I don't want Facebook on my phone. What about Google and Microsoft apps? How many apps did you get preinstalled on the phone?

    3) Updates: Do they add restrictions after a update? For example, after an update, suddenly you the disable/ force stop button is disabled itself or a specific app has to be the default app like Google dialer in stock Android (I know this is ONE UI I'm just giving an example)

    4) Blocking trackers: Is there anything like iPhone's iconic app tracking permission

    5) Heating issues: Snapdragon 5G variant

    6) Slowing down phones after update: Samsung got fined for doing this on Note 4. Is this still true?

    7) 120 hz and always on display: How much battery do they individually take?

    8) Can I control my software updates? Like if I don't want an update for any reason, can I pause or cancel or postpone it indefinitely. Better off if it has some settings I can use.

    9) Bugs in updates? Any experience?

    10) Since I'm getting Android 11 out of the box and Samsung promises 3 upgrades, will I get Android 14?

    11) Is internet access required to setup the phone if I'm not signing in to anything?

Thanks a lot once again. I keep my devices for a long period of time ( sadly I have to unwillingly upgrade because batteries aint available let me know if you know a seller that ships S and Note series batteries worldwide, even if a fee is charged) so I want to be sure if this is what I want, hence the long thought out questions.

iPhone 6S user looking to swap over to Android phones - Looking for Suggestions!

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:12 PM PDT

I work professionally with sensitive data, so I'm primarily looking for a phone that has good security. The secondary thing is that it should have plenty of storage space and have good consistent performance. All others come second. Does anyone have any particular device they can recommend? Also, I'd like to ask how long the life span of an android phone tends to be. Thank you very much!

    S10e doesn't fast charge/connect to PC/connect to Android Auto

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:29 PM PDT

I've tried everything. Cleaned the port for debris, NOTHING else in there. Reinstalled drivers in PC, tried turning on USB debugging mode. Restarted the phone. Cleared cache in recovery.

Connecting to PC just charges the phone, same with Android Auto. I don't get that "select USB mode notification".

Only regular charging works (not Fast Charging, even if it's turned on).

I really don't want to do a hard reset. Should I just go and get a port replacement?

Any help would be very appreciated.

Android Tablet suddenly says External Hard Drive is corrupt and must be formatted when it is not corrupt

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:43 AM PDT

Sorry if this the wrong sub for this, I'll delete if it is. So I recently got an OTG cable to connect my 1TB ext HDD to my phone/tablet. I hooked it to my tablet running Android 10 first Took forever to read it but worked just fine. Tried it next with my Pixel 3aXl running A11 and it says the disk is corrupted and must be formatted go use with my phone. Well it works just fine with my tablet just a lot slower, so I decided to use that as my main file transfer device. I've been using my tablet to move files onto this hard drive now for about 3 weeks without any issues until today. I was in the middle of copying about 1.5 gigs of files when I went to check on it the tablet said there was an error copying the files and it said it was reviewing the USB content again. I turned off the tablet unplugged the hard drive plugged it back in and since then it now says the same thing as my phone that the disc is corrupted and must be formatted. Again I know it is not because it's still works with my PlayStation. The whole reason I have to do this roundabout stuff with the OTG cable is because I don't have a PC right now.

Sorry for the text while but does anyone have a solution to this without having to format my drive? I'm about to try to factory reset my tablet and see if that helps.

    Could anyone explain?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 09:13 AM PDT

Hello, I got Motorola moto g20 today and there's one interesting thing (at least for me) - most android smartphones use either Snapdragon processor or MediaTek, but the G20 uses Unisoc T700. I was kind of surprised that Motorola decided to go with this pretty unknow chipset - at least not so commonly used. I wonder - what kind of chipset is it? I tried to google it and I found some articles which said that it's something like MediaTek's processors, is that true? When I looked at some comparisons I saw it's pretty similar to MediaTek Helio G85.

Previously I used Realme 7 8GB/128GB and yeah, it might seem like a hell of a big downgrade, but trust me, it's not. I can't even say how many issues I had with Realme UI 2.0. I'm so happy that Motorola's software is just a pure android experience, so in this way it was a huge upgrade for me. I'm not a gamer, I only use some social media and that's it, so I have nothing to complain about.

Advice on how to recover a deleted video

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 08:44 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I took a really cute video of the parents of one of my closest friends singing and dancing together at a birthday party around Jan 2020. Unfortunately my friends dad passed away very suddenly this week, I remembered this video and thought it would be nice to send to him and his mum but it appears as though I must have deleted it at some point.

Is there any way that I could possibly recover the video? Unfortunately I don't backup using google photos and it was a obviously a long time ago so it's long gone from my recently deleted folder. Do I have any other options?

    Thanks in advance!

Edit: should have added that I have a Oneplus 5T with Oxygen 10.0.1

Phone charging at 100% for around 15-30 minutes

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 08:11 AM PDT

Hello. I just noticed something weird on my TCL 10L phone. When the phone reaches 100%, it displays fully charged on my lockscreen. Though, unlocking the phone I see the phone is still charging. I see the icon being green with the charging bolt. It takes around 15-30 minutes until it says charged and the bolt removed. Is this normal? I do not remember the phone doing this when I bought it around 5 months ago.

    Thanks.

Is it possible to tweak the "previous track" command?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2021 11:32 AM PDT

I hate the default behavior. When I triple tap on my Galaxy Buds+, I guess it sends the "previous track" command to my phone. What I hate is that it just restart the same song I'm currently listening, but I don't want that, I just want to play the previous track! So I have to triple tap again before it's too late, because I have like 2 seconds to triple tap or it will just restart the current song again! Very annoying with musics that have no or little audible sound at the beginning.

So, is it possible that when I triple tap on my buds that it really does play always the previous track? I guess it could be resolved with a system setting? Or with Samsung Music or Spotify? Or maybe by installing an app? My phone is not rooted.

I already searched on the issue and it doesn't seems I can do something on my buds.

Help would be very much appreciated!

    Edit: I have a Samsung S20 FE
