I created a space game with fruits/diamonds to grab and a certain 80's mood (it's called 'Fruity Space')

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:24 AM PDT

Hi! Together with a friend I created Fruity Space during our italian lockdown... The project stems from the desire to unite contemporary 2D gameplay (or that looks to the contemporary) with a classic arcade spirit, accompanied by some catchy electro songs composed tailored for the game.

    - Game trailer on Youtube (square)

    - In game on Youtube (vertical)

I'm currently trying to make it known to the world by writing on social pages etc. (no paid campaigns).
So if you consider Fruity Space funny, I hope you will want to support it by sharing it on your pages (thanks).

I would like to specify that it's not a 'retro game', definition that I always consider wrong and that I do not use in any context, but is a game with a modern attitude steeped in 80s suggestions and references; a well-balanced mix (I think) of different worlds with a certainly more daring level of challenge than many other apps. You know, the current trend is to lead the user to finish the game even if he does not have the mastery and skills: my game follows another 'philosophy'.

A lot of time went into making it, mainly because I decided not to use any 'space games' frameworks or anything like that, but instead I decided to create as much code as possible from scratch (this is because the main purpose of the project was to practice with the Unity engine and programming language, so I had no interest in making my job easier).

At the end of this beautiful and long experience I can say that the result satisfies me and amuses me a lot, even if the changes and additions I wanted to make were many, probably dozens... but, you know, there is a moment when you have to say "it's finished", "let it go".

    And that's it.

If anyone has any advice to give (or anything else), I will gladly answer.

    Ciao!

Can I learn Python with PyDroid 3 on a Chromebook? (Problem)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:58 AM PDT

I decided to teach myself Python and in addition to setting up an environment on my Windows PC I also find I learn better in the quiet time just before bed using my dated Asus Chromebook Flip C302 (I'm waiting for just the right new gen Chromebook to show up before replacing this one which cannot do Linux).

I installed PyDroid 3 and it works great. I thought I was golden until it came time to learn how to open and work with files. I tried to put a text file in the Downloads folder, but couldn't get ANY path to work to get it to open at all. I then found the path where PyDroid is installed and dropped it there and then tried to open it with the following code:

    myfile = open("sampletext.txt")

    myfile.seek(0)

    myfile.read( )

The file is populated with a few pages of text, but this doesn't seem to work. It doesn't give me an error, but it also won't show me any data whatsoever suggesting that perhaps I have a permissions issue. I'd like to not have to root the device if possible and just want to get this working as it really was going smoothly on the Chromebook until I hit this wall.

Restrict tablet to one app or disable internet browser

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:00 AM PDT

I am wondering what the best method would be to remove access to all apps except one, or at least disable the Internet browser and YouTube.

We want a tablet to be set up for viewing security cameras from a remote access app, and make sure the user can't browse or watch videos all night.

Is there an app for this? Or child setting? Or do I need to root it?

Kikico - an app to pick someone

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:11 AM PDT

TLDR : You have problem deciding to pick someone in a group of person ? Get the app now, it's simple and fun.

    Hello people,

I'm a boardgame player, I don't know if some of you are too, but often before we start a game we must decide who is the first player.

Some games have a way of designating that player, sometimes it's random : "roll a dice", sometimes it's thematic : "the last person who visited Portugal" in the game Azul, and sometimes they don't have any given rule, you just have to decide.

The problem is that it can be boring or always the same people that get picked, so I decided to create an app for that kind of moment when we can't decide with my friends : it's called Kikico and it's available on Android here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lesmaitresdujeu.kikico (also available on iOS but I'm pretty sure no one here is on this system :D)

You simply get a random sentence to designate a person, it can be pretty straight forward, like who's the youngest, who's the tallest. But it can be challenging too like who can bring an item from the room to the table first. It can also lead to mini contest like if you stumble upon "who's the best singer" and two of your friends think they're the best ˆˆ

I also hijack its first purpose very often when we have to decide who should take the trash out at my place, or who should order some food, it just became a fun way to pick someone.

It's really simple for now but it might get a little more complex and with other features later on. It's also free, no in-app purchases, ad-free, and not selling any data !

Best app for daily expense tracking ?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:30 AM PDT

    Hi,

What android app would you suggest for daily expense tracking or money management ? I know I can search online but I thought user review based suggestion would be the best suggestion.

I am specifically looking for something that can keep my daily expense vs items on record (I will input expenses myself), can aggregate them on daily or weekly basis etc. May be a mini version of excel so I don't have to open PC to do this daily.

    Thanks.

    Cell Coverage Mapping App?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 08:47 AM PDT

    Here's what I picture:

App runs in background. At some interval it records GPS location and number of bars of cell tower signal strength. You can choose to either keep your data just for yourself or you can choose to share it with the app maker/world. What you get is a map showing the signal strength for YOUR phone.

Most people probably do this a bit in their heads, like they know "there's a dead spot out by where I walk the dog but the service near the airport is great." This would quantify that and show it on a map.

Of course there are some details to work out: How does it cull out data so that it's a manageable amount. Does it go by how many "bars" the phone is showing or does it use a more technical measure of signal strength. How does it average readings if one day the strength in a location is 4 bars and another time it's 2 bars. -- But all of those are fairly easily solvable.

#1: Does any app like that exist?

#2: If not, would it be something you'd use if it did exist?

micCheck - My first app, a simple but useful audio recorder and organizer

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 06:28 AM PDT

Hi! I'm currently a CS student, and over the last few months of the summer I decided to learn Jetpack Compose and Android dev in general by making my first app, micCheck. The inspiration for the app came when me and my friends were recording our jam sessions on my phone and I realized that I didn't really like any of the audio recording apps on Android. It's a pretty simple app that I mainly made with the intention of just learning app development, so I don't expect much out of it, but I think it has a few nice features like tags, groups, timestamping, and trimming (using ffmpeg, which was a nightmare to develop with). Also, I tried to base the UI a bit off of Material You design, which I think has a nice look to it :)

I don't expect much out of this post, but if the app sounds like it might fit your needs, give it a try!

Also, this is my first ever app, so bugs aren't out of the question. If you encounter any, let me know and I'll do my best to hunt them down!

Can I export App splash screen in Adobe after effects?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:54 AM PDT

I created a second long animation and saved as xml in AE but it doesnt work in the android app. Is there a way to export a drawable format in AE?

If not then what's the easy way to make a splash screen? I tried using Android studio but it's kinda complicated and I don't think I can spin the vectors..

    Any help is appreciated :)

Think And Draw - A very challenging physics puzzler

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:33 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

a couple days ago I released my first actual android game! It took quite some time to get it done while working fulltime and starting from scratch, having to learn the whole process first.

    But here it is!

    - Hand drawn graphics

    - 60 Levels (more are planned)

    - Draw shapes to solve the puzzles

    - Believable physics

    - Multiple ways to solve every level, use your creativity

I would love to hear your feedback if you happen to give it a try!

    Thanks, take care!

Android 10 Go Edition - How can I lock apps

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:24 AM PDT

I was using Android 7 on my previous LG phone and decided to trade-in for a newer phone with Android 10.

Once I had it, I wanted to password protect my apps as I had done in my LG, only to realise the Android 10 I had was the Go edition, and does not allow drawing over apps. Which in turn means I cannot use apps like "App Lock"

Is there any way I can lock apps on a phone running Android 10 Go Edition?

Contacts & Google Contacts - missing after a move

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:53 AM PDT

I just switched phones* and some contacts are missing. I thought the contacts were all stored and synced through Google. On the old phone all entries are there in the contact app/through the phone, on the new phone only some of them are.

Where are the other contacts stored and/or how do I transfer them to the new phone.

In the future, how do I make sure all entries are stored in Google?

I re-installed the app, and the old data is already there!!! How do they do that? and how I clean this data?
