Helpful Android apps, any suggestions? Posted: 01 Sep 2021 04:44 AM PDT Hi everybody! I'm looking for some helpful Android apps recommendations. Honestly, I never had a phone with Android OS. I've always been a fan of Apple products since they've released the iPhone 4. But with my new job I've got a corporate cellphone - Samsung S10 on Android OS. I can say that this phone is not that bad, and the camera has much better quality than the one I have on my iPhone. Still, despite that, I used to carry my iPhone anywhere I go. I'm allowed to download any free apps I want there, or even paid apps if I cover all the costs. But recently, I've noticed that it is not very convenient to carry two phones all the time. All my friends and family call me on my corporate phone number because it guarantees them they can reach me. Besides, I prefer to take pictures from my Samsung rather than some dull pictures from iPhone. I've recently found blogs dedicated to Android Tutorials. I found out that this phone has some more hidden features than I could possibly imagine. I'm even thinking of buying Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. It seems so incredible to me now. But if I didn't get my corporate phone, I would just wait for a new iPhone. Still, there are some apps on my old phone, and I cannot imagine my life without them. So, perhaps someone can suggest some alternatives or websites find some useful apps rather than the Google Play store. I would like to ask you in advance not to offer me any games since I never play them. I usually prefer to read articles and books on my phone and take a gazillion pictures. So, as you can see, I'm looking for some really cool apps for photo editing. I find it more convenient to edit photos on the phone and post them straight away rather than use some complex apps on my computer. By the way, I would like to find out if any apps are similar to a standard iPhone app "books" that can read ePub format? I've bought many books, and it seems that I can read them only either on my old iPhone or my iPad. [link] [comments] |
An open source offline dictionary based on notifications Posted: 31 Aug 2021 06:48 PM PDT Hi, I have just created an open source application that shows the meaning of selected word as a notification for easier access. On clicking on the notification it opens the app to show all meanings. It works across apps that support text selection. It's inspired by Mac's lookup feature. Android supports adding new commands to context menu of text selection and the app adds a new meaning command to show meaning of the word. The application is made with Kotlin with MIT license and the database is offline using Wiktionary. Posted: 01 Sep 2021 08:31 AM PDT Hi - new here, just looking for help, sorry if this violates rules. Ok! I really want to make the switch from an iPhone to an Android. However, I have over $2 grand of music that I've compiled over years of having an iPod and iPhone. I don't want to lose that investment and just switch to a streaming service. I really, really like my music and I've spent a lot of time gathering a huge amount that I really enjoy. I don't want to start from scratch to recreate my library. Now that Google Play Music is gone, is there any way at all to still listen to my music on an Android device and continue to buy songs the way I like? I suppose I could pay for Apple Music and do it that way, but would I still be able to buy from iTunes through that service and store it on my Android device? I really don't want to be reliant on paying for a streaming service in order to listen to my music (as my finances can sometimes be tricky, I'd rather just ... own it outright.) ANY APP SUGGESTIONS would be hugely appreciated. Thanks <3 [link] [comments] |

Can anybody tell me what is embedded android device are called, like Foodpanda Vendor Device. Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:49 AM PDT If you have seen any food delivery system, like foodpanda, you might have seen the restaurant owners uses an android device, which is embedded with only foodpanda apps, and simple default ROM settings. I want to know what are these devices called, in order to research about building them. Or if anyone know how to build them, can share. [link] [comments] |

Looking for a video player with a very specific function. Posted: 01 Sep 2021 09:57 AM PDT I need for the video player to pause video when the screen is off, then automatically resume when the screen turns on again. If it could play a random video from a folder full of videos that would be a plus. [link] [comments] |
Anyone know a android app that can count "on" and "rest" times? Posted: 01 Sep 2021 04:24 AM PDT I'm looking for a android app that can set time intervals for exercising. So like a 30sec timer followed by a 20sec timer, and then it repeats 4 times... but you can of course set any of the values to what you want. This is so you can exercise, in this example, for 30 seconds, then rest for 20 seconds and this pattern repeats 4 times. It would be cool if it had some audio ques.. like saying counting down from 5 seconds with beeps and a start whistle or something... I think you know what I mean.. so I get some warning when a rest is coming or the exercise period starts. I tired googeling but as I do not know what this timer style is called, if it has a name, I did not know what to look for. Thanks! (if you only have a apple app that does this, tell me anyway, might have a andorid version or I can use the apps name to find something like it on android) [link] [comments] |

Connect wireless earbuds to plane entertainment system via app? Posted: 01 Sep 2021 12:00 PM PDT It seems very simple, but I haven't yet found an app that can do exactly this: headphone jack cable (male to male) connects phone airplane headphone jack to a USB C headphone dongle. The phone listens on the mic in via the dongle, and broadcasts the audio on bluetooth. Essentially: allow me to listen with Bluetooth earbuds to an old fashion headphone based system. I've found many "Bluetooth microphone" apps which will use the phones microphone and broadcast the audio on Bluetooth. Some will even accept audio from a phones headphone jack (my phone does not have one) Others will simply use the USB dongle's mich in and then output audio on the dongle's speaker channel. But nothing that can route: Headphone jack mic -> USB C dongle -> bluetooth [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2021 08:08 AM PDT Hello there everyone! So, I've been looking a good cleaner app for some time now, and I really couldn't find any that fitted what I wanted. I'm looking for the simplest app possible, I just want it to delete cache, thumbnails and nonsense files (automatically, if possible). I used CCleaner for a long time, but apparently it has some problems with privacy, and I don't really trust Piriform so much. Because of a recommendation somewhere in here, I downloaded SD Maid, but apparently it has some problems doing automatic cleaning in my phone. Is there any app that would fit what I'm wanting? Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:22 AM PDT I just upgraded to the new Pixel 5a last night and it came with Google Podcasts on it. I was going to continue using Podcast Addict but had heard Google Podcasts was recently updated and wondered if anyone knew how the current version was. [link] [comments] |
Some Apps can't use Wi-Fi connection Posted: 01 Sep 2021 10:35 AM PDT The problem just happened today, some apps can't connect using Wi-Fi, but other apps are doing just fine. And Chrome just says "No internet connection" while i being able to browse the internet. I tried restarting the router and reset my network settings, but nothing seems to work. Any idea how this happened? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2021 10:28 AM PDT A time ago I remember there was a launcher that would auto category your apps and then it was discontinued or I think Microsoft bought it. I can't remember the name of it. I would like to find a launcher that has the same capabilities. I know of smart launcher but don't really like it. [link] [comments] |

I'm looking for a standalone webclipper Posted: 01 Sep 2021 03:22 AM PDT I'm leaving Evernote for Obsidian MD. However I miss the ability of Evernote to simply archive websites by sharing a link. Any app that lets me archive a website to a file for storage in Obsidian? Edit: For know I found the SingleFile Firefox addon works on Nightly, but it is not an elegant solution [link] [comments] |
The best fitness app I've ever tried Posted: 01 Sep 2021 12:48 PM PDT I want to tell you about the best fitness app I have ever tried. It's been called not so catchy - MyRunningApp (maybe that's why it hasn't got much popularity, I don't know...) Why I love this app? Generally speaking, it has everything I need. Some of its features are unique, others are present in other apps as well, but taking everything together, this app is almost COMPLETE. What features I have in mind? 1) Customizable WearOS app with STANDALONE VOICE COACH and using INBUILT HEART RATE SENSOR It has two screens during workout showing 3 different parameters on each one, additionally the fields are customizable and you can choose from many different parameters. If you set night mode in the phone app and sync settings with the watch, it will show night mode on the watch during workout as well. Easy to export finished workout to the phone. Despite the name of the app, you can choose between few different types of workout, including the most important ones: running, walking, cycling. It can use inbuilt heart rate sensor on the watch itself, which is a great advantage. My favorite feature: standalone voice coach. This is something I miss very much in other WearOS apps. I know that Google Fit has this, but it's not customizable at all. Some other apps require to be connected with the phone to give voice announcements or at least to start workout from the phone. In MyRunningApp you can choose on the phone which parameters are to be announced and how often, then sync settings with the watch and you are ready to go without the phone at all! 2) Very capable and feature-rich Android app Traning plans: you can choose from 5 different plans to enhance your capabilities, for example Run From 0 to 30 minutes, Run From 30 to 60 minutes, From 0 to 5k or From 5 to 10k. It's well wrote and easy to follow. Statistics: you can follow your statistics weekly, monthly or yearly Tracks: you can add tracks in gpx format created by yourself and use it as a navigation during workout. I regularly use this feature when cycling. I prepare my track before in Google My Maps or Google Earth, then convert kml to gpx and load it in MyRunningApp. Offline maps: You can add offline map with .map extention and use it even without internet connection. Additionally it allows for live view of the map along with other live parameters, for example current speed, average speed, altitude, etc. It may sound as nothing extraordinary, but the way it's implemented is the most convenient from any fittnes app I've tried. In settings you can set many other parameters, like your bio info, resting and maximum heart rate, kCal and distance correction (in case your device has not so accurate GPS), sensors to use, bicycle wheel circumference, how often GPS position is recorded (time spent and distance traveled), activity parameters to be shown during workout, lock screen controls, pause/stop confirmation, initial countdown, auto pause, media keys, WearOS sync, and some others. Quite many, huh? Until few days ago, I loved this app also for an easy, one click way to upload your activities on Strava and Google Fit. However... Here the sad part of this story begins. Aroung a year ago the developers announced that they are force to stop maintaining this app actively, because they failed to advertise it to the degree it would be worth to work on further. Since then I was looking for a worth alternative for MyRunningApp and you know what? I found nothing better until this day (Ghostracer is closest, but it's still not that good as MRA in my opinion). So I've been using it constantly and I'm still hapoy with it. Sadly, few days ago I noticed that the app disappeared from Play Store, the official site is down and the sync with Google Fit and Strava fails. Even the e-mail address thrown an error while sending the message to them. So it looks like the dev's finally gave up on the app altogether. I'm deeply saddened, but I think I'll be using this app for quite some time yet. It's a shame that such a good app is abandoned. Maybe if it could catch more attention before... Now nevermind though. Meantime I found a kind of workaround for syncing activities with other fittnes services. Of course you can always export workout to gpx or tcx file and upload it on Strava manually, but I like to search for the best solution 😄 What you need are two apps: Tasker and SyncMyTrack Pro. SyncMyTracks allows to sync workouts between different platforms AND with the file directories (PRO version is paid, but allows to do the sync automatically in a time interval). Which means you can just export your workout from MyRunning App as gpx or tcx file, then in the SyncMyTracks app you are to choose the directory in which gpx or tcx files are being saved, and connect it with Strava or Google Fit (or other fitness services). NOTE: In order to SyncMyTracks app recognize the workout type correctly, the gpx or tcx file should contain a specific phrase in the file name (see FAQ of the app). Otherwise it will be recognize just as workout. I use Tasker profile to rename the file as soon as it is exported. I'm sharing the link to my GDrive folder with apks if anybody is interested in trying MyRunningApp (both phone and wear version. Phone app will also work on Full Android Watches running Android 7 or 10.) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vKoRiRYsOiFaUGKbE6uDmPboQA3PG7PX?usp=sharing Also you can find there a profile to automatically rename workout in Tasker. In the Event/File Modified context you can choose the path were the workout files are exported, either gpx or tcx. In the task, action 2, "Replace with" field, set the workout type name. Now its "run", you can change it to another type according to SyncMyTracks app's FAQ. Then the appropriate suffix will be added to the workout file's name as soon as it appeares it the chosen loaction. The task is not my invention: Courtesy of kind @OwlIsBack 😊 Hope that somebody will like this app as much as me. Cheers [link] [comments] |
