Posted: 03 Jul 2021 03:53 AM PDT TL;DR There has been a lot of negative talk about Xiaomi and their software for a while now, so I just wanted to highlight one of the features that BLEW my expectations out of the water. I just got my Mi 11 Pro last Monday and I've been tinkering around with it for a while now. Firstly, the panel is gorgeous. It gets so bright I never have to worry about using the phone outdoors again. Secondly, which will tie me into my point, is the HDR capabilities of this device. I have been using the standard HD plan of Netflix for a long time, as I have not owned anything remotely as capable in the HDR field as this phone. Dolby Vision looks absolutely stunning on this. I tested Love Death & Robots (More specifically, the episodes: Sonnie's Edge, The Secret War, and "Beyond the Aquila Rift") and Stranger Things 3 Episode 8, Battle for The Starcourt Mall. Let me tell you that this HDR rivals even the experience I had on my friend's Samsung Q80T, which is pretty much THE best HDR-capable TV I have ever experienced. So, I started thinking, what if I paired this with Xiaomi's own image upscaler? Well, to my eyes the results look even more gorgeous. The image looks to be way crisper, with more detail on textures like clothes and faces. This isn't that hard for an AI upscaler as there is so much information in 1080p already, it's not hard to fill in the gaps. The tech Xiaomi developed here blew all my expectations out of the water. I was sure the image was going to look grainy, but I didn't experience that here. There are some negative side effects though. I cannot confirm this at the moment, but I think the HDR of the stream is what causes the stream to stutter a lot when the upscaler is on. For some reason, the stream already stutters a bit when viewed in HDR (I tested on a non-HDR title on Netflix and that runs fine), so that stutter only gets worse when the upscaler is turned on. I imagine the root cause for it is that the upscaler is not optimized for HDR content, which causes it to stutter a bit. It's not bad per se, but it is noticeable. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:25 AM PDT Recently I posted an article that explained why I was disappointed with Redmi Note 8 pro and mediatek. After getting rid of that smartphone I decided to go for Poco x3 since a lot of people gave positive feedback about that device (note 8 pro received a decent amount of recognition across the globe either, but it turned out to be a total clusterfuck and shitshow that some people paid 300 dollars for. Let's go through some crucial factors and I will explain you why I think POCO X3 is a good device to buy. SOFTWARE OPTIMIZATION. (Uh.. MIUI rant again) POCO X3 comes with MIUI as well as other Xiaomi devices. Shame that they stopped packing smartphones with pure android and the Mi A lineup is long gone, but the Poco lineup has always shipped with MIUI so it's no surprise. My opinion hasn't changed since that rant about Rn8n Pro - MIUI is an entire train wreck which can destroy even such amazing smartphone with its bugs and lack of optimization - you simply go to the gallery app and cannot watch your videos because the display starts to "adapt" the frame rate. You simply have to clean up RAM because MIUI seems to have to RAM management and it makes your smartphone laggy. Only here in MIUI 12 can you find dark text written upon dark background. Screw you Xiaomi. While I was writing this article a new update knocked at my door - the android 11 itself. I don't think any further explanation is needed - you can't expect positive changes from a MIUI update, it works as if android 11 releases in a year and this is just a beta or developer preview or the first compilation of A11, or idk what else... I experienced kind of the same thing when I updated my old redmi note 5 to android 9, then I discovered pixel experience and never got back. See paragraph 5 for custom ROM explanation a.k.a. how to escape this lag prison. SOME HARDWARE THINGS Stereo speakers - awesome! 120hz display - Absolutely stunning!! I'm never going back to 60hz after having this device. Touch ID built into the power button - hmmm.. Controversial in a way. Left handed people are likely to use Face Unlock instead, but apart from that I have nothing against it. 33w charger in the box - prrrrrecious! (Considering apple who doesn't even ship their phones with a freaking charger). Vibration has improved as well. Now I get more of a taptic engine feel (Note 8t and 8 pro felt like cheap 80$ FLY smartphones from 2013). Camera dot instead of a notch - this is the way to go, nothing more to say. Screw that notch and hopefully it will never come back to smartphones again (the dot is even better when it's in the corner) CAMERA AND SOUND First off, the main module is great here, so is the sound it records (unlike Rn8pro where the recordings sounded as if it was a motherfucking 1$ used mic purchased on AliExpress). Wide angle and macro lenses are decent either, and the 4th lens.. I just don't care about it and don't even know what it's all about. I have some complaints about the software part of it which can be fixed by installing a Google camera (If you'd like to install one with stabilization, HDR, 4k etc. just let me know in the comments I'll provide a link). Plus "the best UI in the world" a.k.a. MIUI has some bugs related to refresh rate which cause stutters while watching videos in post (and other custom ROMs that have adaptive refresh rate do the same shit to your videos), so I recommend using VLC player. The camera app itself has a hard time displaying the real framerate while taking videos, so definitely check out Gcam. On the other hand, stabilization in all modes, long exposure and 64mp are definitely pros of the app. Google camera combined with stock (ANX camera app for custom ROMs) will kick your ass with the quality of photos and videos anyway. If you'd like me to send apks leave your telegram username in the comments, I'll send it all to ya. WIRELESS STUFF Internet speed - a lot better than Note 8 Pro. 3mb/s Vs 20mb/s with my carrier. The difference is unbelievable. Bluetooth seems to have gotten a lot better as well, although they both have Bluetooth 5. P.S. NEVER USE AIRPODS WIRH ANDROID! CUSTOM ROMS / ESCAPING THE MIUI HELL I'd like to remind you that any Xiaomi phone is nearly unusable without a custom ROM for me. Basically I am among those who buy Xiaomi phones just because of stunning hardware for a low price. Having a Snapdragon chip makes this device easy to install any custom ROM - Unlock bootloader (7 days), flash TWRP and then flash a ROM. My top 3 favourite ROMs are Pixel Experience, Arrow OS and CrDroid (I chose CrDroid). Some stutters are present even on custom ROMs but you can minimize it by changing your CPU governor to OnDemand or Performance and setting a higher minimum CPU frequency (warning: less battery time!). Anyway, this is the way a smartphone HAS TO work. You always get latest android version (not instantly, but WAY faster than Xiaomi does (my heart goes to ginkgo users who waited MIUI with a10 for 1 year...)), open source system that does not spy on you (which means control over your system), smooth and fancy UI, a lot of customization from UI tweaks to kernel changes, the ability to always force 120hz and most importantly, you get the stock android experience without any strange thing that perverted Chinese programmers decided to put into your smartphone. Go for a custom ROM anyway and believe me, the result will be worth the effort. CONCLUSION / GRAND FINALE What can I say? I liked the Poco X3! This device made me think that the Poco lineup has better quality control compared to Redmi because they release less smartphones (and I believe it's true..). The smartphone has every chance to deliver great user experience (but only with a custom ROM). For me Xiaomi is just about hardware now, and they have absolutely no clue how to make good software. If there were no custom ROMs, there would be no Xiaomi for me, but with a blessing of God above we have it all so don't hesitate to buy Poco X3 ;) Shoutout to all developers who work on ROMs and make this device usable. Also, there is another phone called Poco X3 Pro, if you can pay extra 50$ and are not saving money heavily like I do, go for that device because it has the flagship killer Snapdragon 860. I'm done for today, bye for now. [link] [comments]
Do I really need a Screen Protector? Posted: 02 Jul 2021 08:19 PM PDT Hi, so my Xiaomi has a Gorilla glass 5 I plan on using the device for about 3 years and I was thinking of applying a screen protector. Redmi Note 7 - How to disable pull down notification bar? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:36 AM PDT I find it very annoying that whenever I'm playing a certain game, I often pull down the notification bar on accident and fail because of it. Is there a way to lock/pin an app and disable this feature? My device is rooted if that helps. Otherwise I'm just gonna flash a custom ROM I guess. Thanks for any help. [link] [comments]

Just got Redmi Note 10 Pro, a question about ROM Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:19 AM PDT Should I stay on the stock ROM that came with the phone, or should I change it? Before I got the phone I was using an old Leeco Cool 1 phone and I customized it to my liking because the stock ROM was tragic, but is there anything that really stands out in the stock ROM for note Pro 10 that makes people flash something else? I'm not sure if doing that voids warranty and how safe it is, so I'd like some advice if I should flash a different ROM, and if so, which one. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Need help choosing between the Redmi Note 10 pro (or Max) and the POCO X3 Pro (Indian variants) Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:45 AM PDT Hi everyone, a OnePlus user who also loves MI here. My first ever phone I purchased on my own is a Redmi Note 4. However two years ago, I picked up a OnePlus which I have been using since then. Unfortunately, due to unexpected major issues with my OnePlus device, which would cost me quite a large sum of money to resolve, I've decided to purchase a good value phone which I can use for atleast 2 or 3 years. Due to budget constraints, I'm only able to purchase the Indian variants at a price of around 20k INR. I would have gone for a higher end MI or a OnePlus device had this not have been the case. After looking at everything that is available, I've narrowed down my choices to two phones from MI, namely, the Redmi Note 10 Pro (or Max) and the POCO X3 Pro. I'm leaning heavily towards the Redmi Note 10 pro because it is a much more well rounded phone, Max in particular because of its camera capabilities and the fact that it has an AMOLED display which I'd have to sacrifice if I take the POCO X3 Pro. However, I find myself very attracted to the sheer power that the POCO X3 Pro can harness, along with the fact that the 732G processor is a downgrade in power, when pitted against my current phone, which has a Snapdragon 855 processor. That being said, I need help with the following. I am also considering the Mi 11 lite, though I don't think it offers as much as the afermentioned devices.
Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]
Xiaomi Mi Max 3 wifi and sim connectivity issues Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:45 AM PDT So for the past few days I've been basically without phone. It would start rebooting every once in a while for several times and the connectivity to wifi and coverage would be back for some time and then get lost again. I've tried factory resetting it and flashing it and it seems to be working now without a Sim. Wifi works fine and the constant rebooting has stopped. If I put back the sim,the same problem would occur. Any thoughts? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Redmi Note 10 Pro (MIUI Global 12.0.10) Google sign in not working Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:20 AM PDT I just got my phone a few days ago (been using iPhone for a long time so it's all a bit new to me) and finally got round to setting it up properly. Youtube works (ie plays videos itself), and the internet works fine but I cannot sign into my Google account. It simply says: "Couldn't sign in - there was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later." What I've tried so far: - Tried using different wifi networks etc., it's definitely not my internet connection. - Tried the (seemingly old now) solution of clearing data and cache for apps like "Google Play Services", "Google", "Google Play Store" - Tried restarting my device I wondered whether it might be my current ROM version (MIUI Global 12.0.10, as mentioned in the title), so I'm currently downloading MIUI V12.5.1.0RKFMIXM (which seems to also be the global version according to Google) via the device's software update section. Is there anything else I can try to get Google services (specifically account services) working so I can actually sign into my account? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

Mi Smart Speaker Chime Alert Issue Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:47 AM PDT Hi I just purchased this speaker and connected it to my Google home network. I also connected my smart TV to the speaker via Bluetooth. When I want to listen to tv audio through the speaker I say "ok Google connect Bluetooth to tv." This works fine but when I switch my TV off the speaker starts making alert chimes every 20 seconds and I can't work out how to get it to stop? I've read through the supplied user manual. But it only details how to setup and not much else. Does anyone know what these sounds mean and how to stop them? And does anyone know if there is a more detailed user guide for this speaker? Redmi Note 10 - custom ringtone not working Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:27 AM PDT Hello, I got Redmi Note 10 the other day, but I've an issue with the ringtone change. I've selected a custom .mp3 file to use as ringtone, but when someone calls it uses the default ringtone... If I select a ringtone from the preinstalled ones, there is no issue, but when I choose a different file it always uses the default ringtone instead of the selected one. Anyone got an idea how this can be fixed? [link] [comments]
Mi Robot Vacuum-mop P - phantom obstacles. HELP! Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:11 AM PDT Greetings! I have owned a mi robot vacuum mop p for just over 6 months now. Since recently, it would just stop every time its running and I would get a notification saying "device error: device stuck" (although there is literally nothing obstructing it). I would then resume it only for it to tell me its stuck again in 40seconds to 1 min. I clean it once every 4 days (thoroughly) and its wheels are clean and clear. Any recommendations on what I should do? Much appreciated and hope you all have a great day. [link] [comments] |
