How does microsoft not have something like Apple's Time machine? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 09:53 AM PDT I've been thinking about this for some time now and I think it's a no -brainer. It would really make things alot easier for people who switch devices very often and save us alot of time. I know they have file history but It's not even close. What do you guys think? It's been around since the early 90s and all these udpates yet it's impossible to have all my calendars in the one place [link] [comments]
Why are Win7 updates slower than Win10 on same PC? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 08:16 AM PDT Just curious if anybody knows the technical reasons. I'm messing around with an ancient laptop of mine, just for fun. And I'm reinstalling Windows 7 again, because it wasn't handling Windows 10 that well with background tasks making it a bit slow. But I had totally forgot how cumbersome Windows 7 updates where. They have always been painfully slow in my experience. No matter the hardware it seems. And they often fail to install. On the same old hardware, how come it seems that updates are faster and more reliable on newer Windows versions? [link] [comments]

Also the new start menu is very annoying I would like to get it back too and I did, but after recent update I can't get it back to. Oh the Show_Start dword dont work and taskbarsi change icon size to 0 1 too doesnt work for all icons to be displayed properly [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Jul 2021 04:38 AM PDT Even though I feel my doubt is kinda silly. But when I have to update from Win 10 to Win 11 , the latter which occupies 64 GB, So my doubt is would that 64 GB of Windows 11 replace the space of Windows 10 on hard disk or do I need extra free 64 GB on my C drive ? Security Update KB5003173 makes Window Search not work (20H2) Posted: 10 Jul 2021 06:48 AM PDT This problem has been persisting for 3 weeks now and this particular update breaks windows search You can't type anything in the search bar and it closes on its own without even showing results Uninstalling the update will make windows search work again but again, this has been an issue for 3 weeks [link] [comments]
There will no be Windows 13, ever. Posted: 09 Jul 2021 11:03 PM PDT Prove me wrong. Upd. For those missing the point. MS are superstitious. They skipped Office 13 the same way. Now prove me wrong. [link] [comments]
Unsure if it's Windows, Edge, or my laptop specifically, but... Posted: 10 Jul 2021 08:08 AM PDT Whenever I'm browsing the internet I find that "swipe to go back" and "swipe to go forward" are extremely tedious to use. Swiping two-fingers left or right generally causes the whole page to slide around left and right, rather than immediately register as "swipe to go back/forward." Even when there's no scroll bar on the bottom of the page (fully zoomed out, etc) it'll still "scroll" around the page as though there's more to see. This often causes me to have to stop fully, pause, and slowly slide two-fingers. Even then it's like it has a built in stop-gap to prevent me from doing it, because the whole page will slide and then an arrow pops up, highlights, and then loads the back/foward. This is the behavior I'm dealing with. How do I get it to stop doing that and just register two-fingers sideways as "go back/forward" and not "scroll around like an idiot"? Edit: Two fingers, three fingers is something different and it's too early for my brain. [link] [comments]
Volume mixer and Action Center in Windows 11 Posted: 10 Jul 2021 04:16 AM PDT Okay so the volume mixer in win 11 is no more a simple cute dialog box that opened up instantly after a click and allowed you to adjust specific volumes. It's a whole fucking window now which takes like an eternity to load. Even if they reduced the loading time it's still bad. I used volume mixer while playing games (yeah win+g is there but I preferred volume mixer) so it is a bad idea to take up whole screen space for a volume mixer. Also you can't interact with WiFi , battery , sound icons separately . Clicking on any of them now opens the all new action center and only then you can actually interact with WiFi networks and sound. Still even in the action center you can't change the power mode like in win 10. Tbh the look of the action center is really good but it's like you are forced to use the action center now. Basically they increased the number of clicks and seconds to do a task which would take like a second in win 10. [link] [comments]

Why is file sharing on Windows STILL such a f-ing joke?! Posted: 10 Jul 2021 05:59 AM PDT I write 'still' here referring back to 20 years of Windows versions. Trying to share a folder with some files on a small home network between PCs running the latest version of Windows 10 is still so bad you would think Microsoft is trolling its users. It should be: right click folder, share, done -> the folder shows up for everyone on your network when clicking on "Network" in file explorer. What it actually is: spend >2 hours googling one error after another until you reach a compromise that might mean you have to copy files to the receiver instead of him finding your shared folder. Devices shows up as Media Devices on one PC, but the other see the share folders on both, every single user has max permissions on every folder, every possible setting in Network Sharing has been tested. CIFS Clients/Servers installed, restarts of everything... When we finally managed to discover a folder from one PC and give permissions to copy to it, it worked BUT as soon as the copy was done the shared PC/folder disappeared again from File Explorer... Why is the file sharing experience still so bad? You might as well run a third-party FTP server on your machines. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Jul 2021 09:55 AM PDT Sorry but the system requirements for processors are ridiculous. I have a Ryzen 5 1600AF (essentially a 2600 with the same boost clock, and a base clock detuned by ~3%) and it won't be supported. Thank you for finally pushing me over to Linux Mint!
