Gaming laptop with long battery life Posted: 18 Jul 2021 04:14 AM PDT I'm looking for a laptop that can handle some light gaming but primarily I'm looking for something with a good battery life. It seems ATM Nvidia 3060 based laptops are the sweet spot in terms of price, I could go for a lower end GPU but then I'm sacrificing a lot of performance for not much cash if I look at machines with a good battery life. I don't really care about gaming battery life as when I'm on battery I'll mostly be doing web browsing type of things, for that same reason the screen quality isn't that important as I'll be using an external when doing anything where I care about the monitor. I've found the Asus TUF Dash (3060 85w, i7-11370H) and Lenovo Legion 5 (3600 130w, 5600H), wondering if anyone had any other recommendations I should look at. [link] [comments] |

Looking for a TV/Movies, Netflix Laptop, with some Programming Use Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:45 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 800 USD. Willing to go a tad higher (extra 100-200) if it means a massive increase in quality, but prefer 800 or below. Are you open to refurbs/used? No. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I value performance and build quality, but don't care about battery life, it will be plugged in most of the time. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not that important. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Want a minimum of 15". Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No video or photo editing. #1 Far and away priority is the highest quality picture for tv/film viewing. I just want a nice looking screen, HD 1080p, and great colors for netflix, hulu, youtube, etc... viewing. Will also use it for Python coding. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not really looking to play any games with it. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Nope. TV/Film viewing is king. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. As outlined above, I just want the best possible visual laptop I can get for upwards of around $800. Best picture, colors, quality around that price range or below. Really good video quality when streaming sports, tv shows, movies, and youtube videos is my #1 priority. Not going to use it for much else. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

13" Laptop: XPS 9305 vs 9310 vs something else? (1500 CAD) Posted: 17 Jul 2021 09:36 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Maximum 1500 CAD or so, prefer as low as possible to meet my requirements Are you open to refurbs/used? If I can buy them from a reputable company How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? No need for 2 in 1, build quality and weight is priority. Then performance. Battery life just needs to be about 3-4 hours of hard work at most, and the rest just browsing/word processing How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is important. Thinness is not as important. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Maximum 15.6 or so Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I might play dirt rally and assetto corsa, but that's it. Relatively low requirements so most IGPUs can handle it nowadays Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? USB type c would be nice. Ergonomic/good keyboard is appreciated. Would probably be using a mouse for any real work so touchpad not super important. Aesthetics are somewhat important Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I made a similar post last week, and now I have actually went into the store to feel all the latest laptops and I feel like I have come to a small group of contenders. By price: 1) XPS 9310 ($1700) - My favourite windows laptop by far, but is incredibly expensive. The keyboard is so good and feels the closest to a real standalone keyboard. The screen is also huge considering how small the laptop is. However, it's really expensive for what you get. 2) XPS 9305 ($1450 on sale now) - Wasn't able to try this one in store, but from what I know, the only difference between this and the 9310 is a slightly smaller keyboard and 16:9 screen 3) Macbook Air ($1100 + free airpods for student) - It's a really great cheaper option, but while still solid, the keyboard didn't have as much travel as I would've liked and I preferred the Envy and XPS keyboard. I'm also not sure if I can move to the MacOS platform smoothly. This price is for the 8gb/256gb since i won't be playing any games at all on this 4) HP Envy ($1300) - This one was a bit of a wildcard since it wasn't even on my radar, but after getting a feel of it, I actually really like it. Keyboard is not quite as good as the XPS but still very large and I like that it also has deep travel. Since the price is so close, I would want to compare it to the 9305, but I can't find any of them available in my area. My questions: 1) Is the XPS 9305 inferior to the 9310 in any way? I've done a lot of research and I can't find any conclusive answer. It does look like the keyboard is a bit smaller as well as the screen, but is the actual keyboard still functionally the same as the 9310? 2) To me, it looks like the macbook air is the best option for the money if I can get used to MacOS. Just between the Windows laptops though, which would you recommend? 3) With these prices for 16gb of RAM, are there any Lenovo Thinkpads worth buying? I looked into them since they are often recommended, but 16gb of RAM was usually ~1800 CAD even on "sale". Thanks! [link] [comments] |
