Should I use a modern PSU with a 15 year old system? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 10:36 AM PDT
Just bought a new psu, hooked everything up, and pc won’t turn on. Posted: 19 Sep 2021 08:47 AM PDT Just installed my platinum be quiet 11 850w psu to replace my 650w and got everything hooked up. Flipped the power switch and the MOBO lit up. Clicked the power button and only heard a click from the psu and it didn't boot, MOBO stayed lit up. Any ideas on what is happening? Edit: general consensus is that I'm dumber then fuck. Will update when I switch cables later this evening. Edit 2: I've got people actually messaging me telling me how dumb I am. Could you imagine having that sorry of a life to go out of your way and put someone down for making a mistake? LOL downvote my admission of mistakes so others don't learn from it right? went from 60hz to 75hz....very noticeable! Posted: 19 Sep 2021 07:20 AM PDT Just upgraded to an LG 27QN880-B 27" 2560x1440 monitor. It defaults to 60hz but I switched it to 75hz.....and WOW what an improvement! Just dragging windows around and stuff is so much more fluid. I can read text while it scrolls. Man, why didn't I do that before! Now I'm on the hunt for an even faster refresh rate. Good thing Amazon has a great return policy lol. HIGHLY recommend this upgrade for anyone currently building a pc. I don't know how helpful the true high refresh rates are, but if it's like the jump from 60 to 75 I can only assume going to 144 or higher is worth it. How does someone build a PC with 7 GPUs?? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 10:54 AM PDT https://youtu.be/kBdNvVu9gec?t=405 There is this well known 3D modeler (he worked on the game Mortal Shell) and he describes a custom PC he has with 7 1080 GPUs and 192 gigs of ram. I personally have 2x 2080 Tis and I also work in 3D rendering, and the idea of having 7 just makes me salivate. My mobo is a ASRock X570M PRO4 and therefore only supports two cards. How does one even go about setting up 7 cards? What kind of motherboard do you need for that? Is it possible to do this in some external case? Would that be more preferable or less? RAM question, Ryzen 5600X with Corsair 3600Mhz RGB Posted: 19 Sep 2021 01:17 PM PDT Hi, I have spent hours online looking for this question so I thought about asking here : I'm considering to buy a Ryzen 5600X with a ROG B550-F, and I was thinking about Corsair RGB PRO 3600 Mhz C18, here's why : - I have read that 3600 Mhz C18 and and 3200 Mhz C16 would perform about the same (10ns) BUT that the AMD Infinity Fabric on the Ryzen actually prefers 3600 Mhz - I like the RGB design on the Corsair ones, seems to have more LED for a smoother RGB gradient. BUT, the problem is : - Corsair 3200 Mhz CL16 is on the QVL compatibilty list of this motherboard, but Corsair 3600 Mhz CL18 is NOT (I know it doesnt mean that much...) - And I read a few topics where people got blue screens with this Corsair 3600 and this CPU/Motherboard, or sometimes just the XMP that doesnt accept it at the right value, but they all had "old" BIOS'. So my question is: Does anyone have this exact same combo and does it work? What would you recommend to buy instead : Corsair 3200Mhz C16, or another brand, maybe Gskill 3600Mhz C16 or C18? I dont know if their RGB is on par with Corsair thought, I have seen that Crucial color gradient isnt that good with less LED. I build PC for 20 ish years, and it's the first time I have to consider such questions as RGB quality and compatibilty issues with known brands... Thanks a lot for your help guys! Posted: 19 Sep 2021 02:46 PM PDT Last night my PC hard crashed while I was gaming out of nowhere. Temps were fine, no signs of issues, just randomly stopped mid game then hit me with the bluescreen and forced me to BIOS. Everything started up again with no issues. I checked for updates, found I had an update for my GPU so did that. No other updates required that I could find. I was gaming earlier today with my controller connected through the Type-C port but now it will not work. Controller is good, connection is good but I am being told there is a Desktop Error that needed to be troubleshot. I troubleshoot it and it says that I am missing a driver for my PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller. I can't figure out how to fix it though. Do I just need to redownload my drivers or something? Is it safe to leave my computer on for prolonged periods of time? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 03:38 PM PDT I've got a relatively new machine with relatively new parts. Unfortunately, this does not help when I need to use my school laptop for, well, school. However, I am able to connect to my computer through remote desktop from my school laptop. Although, my computer needs to be on for this to happen. I may go up to 5 days without seeing my computer and being able to control whether or not it is on. To get to the point, would it be wise to keep my computer on when I am not on it for these extended periods of time or would it be too damaging to the components of my computer? NZXT AER RGB Fan plugged Into JRGB1 Header Posted: 19 Sep 2021 02:35 PM PDT I got a NZXT fan and didnt realize you need a hue hub controller to plug all fans into? so I plugged it into SYS_FAN header and it worked, but the RGB did not. So I tried the JRGB1 header and fan did not turn on. So I switched back to SYS_FAN header, and.... No more fan! Did I just fry my fan? [link] [comments]
Recommendations for a new Motherboard, Processor and Ram Posted: 19 Sep 2021 02:25 PM PDT Was initially just looking to swap processors - I'm currently using an i3-3140. But realized I also need to swap out my motherboard and ram. Looking to go with some AMD ryzen processor which seems to be the new thing. Overall, I'd like to limit my budget to $700-800 total if possible and something that will last next 5 years or so. I don't really play games except occasional league of legends but just like to have a good PC. Mostly i need it for my data analyst work, for surfing the net i have macbook m1. I will be using PowerBi, tablue, google spreedshit, docs, excel and some programming R/python so i have heard that i should go with fast 16gb ram (2x8 right?) and some decent processor with motherboard [link] [comments]

Looking to rebuild desktop in a smaller case Posted: 19 Sep 2021 01:38 PM PDT Hello! After moving into an apartment where there are limited possibilities to fit a larger tower, I am keen to explore if there are ways to fit as many of the current components as possible in the smallest case possible! As it is an older build that has not been used for the last two years, I am very open to replace some of the more dated components such as fans and power supply if needed. What the hell is wrong with this cpu? Posted: 18 Sep 2021 11:53 PM PDT Got my friends old gaming pc and there is really something wrong with it. I noticed that cpu usage was constantly at 100% so i decided to delete everything and do a complete new windows install. Problem still persists and after some time it crashes with a blue screen with error code KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. First thing i tried was disabling fast startup but that didn't do anything. I checked task manager and wtf is this? Edit; Resource monitor: https://imgur.com/a/Ab2u5gR Cpu-z: https://imgur.com/a/wCnslDF [link] [comments]
Cant move bootloader to new NVME Posted: 19 Sep 2021 03:03 PM PDT Hello! I bought a new NVME to replace dying HDD. All the HDD has on it is my bootloader, and an old OS. I want to rip it out. My primary OS is Windows 10 and is currently sitting on a SATA SSD. Why is this so difficult. So far I have partitioned 120MB on the NVME card to make room for the bootloader to come across. I installed EasyBCD and its not allowing me to move the bootloader because its a logical drive. Fair. I went into diskpart to fix that, and diskpart now says its a primary drive, but that change is not appearing in DiskManagement. Likewise AOMEI Partition Assistant is not allowing me to convert the created partition to primary, the option to "Convert" is greyed out. So in short, appears that the partitions I create refuse to be counted as primary drives, the option doesnt appear as I try to create them (via diskmanagement), and I know that I have to have a primary partition to move this stinking bootloader. Please help the buzzing coming from this old hard drive is a never ending reminder of the reaper on its way for my poor old HDD and also makes me want to explode. Many Thanks, ColMouseturd [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Sep 2021 02:52 PM PDT I essentially can't get to my desktop or even BIOS screen when I have my GPU plugged in, a 2080 Super. Basically I was playing Deathloop and turned off my PC (Start -> Shutdown). However, it took foreeeeeeeever to turn off so I hit the power button to manually turn it off. I then tried to turn it on again because I forgot to check an e-mail and it didn't boot...basically PC comes on, takes foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever to the keyboard to light up...but no image. With my CPU plugged in, it still takes a while for my keyboard to light up, but I then get BIOS screen and to the Windows 10 desktop within a few minutes...it used to take seconds.
So everything was more or less working fine until last night. I got my new RTX 3090 but forgot the third PSU cable, so I removed it and re-installed my 2080 Super. Everthing worked fine so I kept playing Deathloop but then this issue happened when I went to bed and selected shutdown WTF GIVES!??? [link] [comments]

Newly-Built PC Doesn't Give Signal to Monitor after Windows Install Posted: 19 Sep 2021 11:55 AM PDT Hello. I'm 14 and 4 days ago, I built my first PC for my birthday (specs below). After finishing building it, I turned it on, saw that the case fan and stock cooler fan were spinning, but noticed that the PC wasn't outputting anything to the monitor. I tried turning it off and on again a couple of times and eventually, it stopped turning on. At that point, I was tired and went to bed. After school the next day, I took it apart and re-built it. I was back to where I started. Fans spinning, but no output. I searched on Google for help and realized that it may be a RAM issue. I took out one 8 GB stick and sure enough, it booted to the BIOS. Ecstatic, I got my Windows 10 USB and went through the process of installing Windows. At the end, it said that it needed to reboot. I didn't touch anything and the PC turned off. I expected it to go back to the Windows Installation after turning off, but after it did, I stopped getting any monitor output. Confused, I (maybe stupidly) turned off the PC by holding the power button for 5 seconds and turned it back on. Still no output. At this point, I realized that I had to hold the power button for 5 seconds every time I wanted to turn off the PC and that pressing it once did nothing. I anxiously turned the PC on and off again, hoping for a signal, but that led to the PC not turning on at all. I went to bed on Day 2 with a PC that wouldn't turn on, once again. On Day 3 I was tired and didn't feel like working on the PC. Now, we come to Day 4: Yesterday. I woke up and took apart my PC. I put it back together again, hoping for at least some signs of life, and that's what I got. Some signs of life, once again. The fans were spinning, but no output. I tried all RAM configurations possible, reinserted the NVMe, nothing. That brings me to today, where I have a PC that spins to life but doesn't output anything. How can I fix this? Thank you for reading. Specs:

Help two 3090's dead in two weeks, bad cards or something else wrong with my system? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 10:19 AM PDT Hello internet, So I've had my build completed since late December 2019. It has worked well, occasionally when I turn it on it will begin the boot process fans spin, rgb lights up, the DRAM LED on the mobo will stay on, then everything will shut off and the system will reset, and boot as normal. This doesn't happen every time I turn it on and there are no issues with crashing or random restarts. However, I was recently playing the new worlds open beta and my evga 3090 died while playing it after a few hours. EVGA got me a replacement through their RMA program quickly. I was playing Valhiem last night for a few hours with my buddy when the screen went black (audio stayed on), I restarted the computer and the card had the red light of death an was doa. Each card had three individual PCIE power cables. So now I'm wondering if they just sent me a broken card or if there is something else in my system that is contributing to the cards dying. Specs below: CPU:10700k OC'ed to 5ghz Ram: Crucial balistix 32gb 3600 CL16 Mobo: NZXT Z490 PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W Gold Fans/Cooling: 3 Corsair ll120 intake, 1 ll120 exhaust, 2 ll120 exhaust through a top mount 240 rad cpu cooler Case: Corsair 220t Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to contact EVGA about another RMA on Monday. [link] [comments]
What kind of off-brand components are ok to trust? Posted: 19 Sep 2021 11:42 AM PDT I'm having trouble deciding if I should go with my own build or a prebuilt. The current prices and shortages make prebuilts a very tempting option, however, most of those have at least a couple off-brand components that I'm not sure if it's ok to trust. If I were to buy a pre-built, here's the one that I would want to buy: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Hexa Core I can't find any info online about "BlueRay" SSD's and "Slayer" cooler's. The only results that come up are the shop links from my country (Portugal). If I were to go with my own build, I'd pretty much make the same setup, but switch out the SSD and cooler for more well-known brands (I'm thinking maybe a Samsung SSD and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition), still undecided on the case. The downside of building it myself would be the overall price of the build being higher by approximately 100-200€, and having to hunt for the parts in different stores. This PC would be mostly for gaming and browsing, and from what I gather the Ryzen 5 5600X doesn't require a beefy cooler. So with that in mind, would it be worth "gambling" on those lesser known brands? Also, if I go with my own build, how much extra wattage is usually necessary for a PSU? According to PC part picker the estimated wattage is 570W. So, I thought maybe I would be able to save a bit and go with a 650W PSU, but after some googling I keep seeing people recommending a lot more than the estimate, and some saying that the estimate from PC part picker is inaccurate and usually lower than it should be. Is there a rule to calculate how much extra I actually need? [link] [comments] |
