Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H being sold without operating system?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 06:31 AM PDT

I want to buy this laptop from a major retailer in Slovakia. They say it is new, out-of-the-box, but it doesn't come with an operating system.

    This seems weird to me.

    Is this normal?

Are there any rumors about an AMD version of the Dell XPS or HP Spectre x360?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 06:59 AM PDT

I'm going to college in August and I'll be damned if I have to buy an Intel laptop before I go because there are no AMD options. Also, will the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro be released in the US?

    Gateway Creator Series Freesync Support

    Posted: 02 May 2021 12:43 PM PDT

I got this laptop for my nephew and I am setting it up but the display is not showing as freesync compatible. I had read in a few reviews that it did support it but the display only has generic display drivers installed. It still shows up at 120hz though. If you happen to have this laptop could you check if you have drivers for it or if it is showing up as a generic display. This is the 2060 version. Thanks for any info you might have.

Difference in hP Spectre x360 13 models?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 11:25 AM PDT

I'm seeing three results for that model on HPs website, each is priced differently, and customizing them to the same hardware leads to difference in pricing.

Heres the builds I made for each option, and I'm not sure which is the best option or why they're all priced differently.

2 in 1 laptop (Tablet mode)

    Posted: 02 May 2021 04:56 AM PDT

I have a 2 in 1 laptop that I will be using for grad school. How safe it is to be using it in tablet mode? Can I use the tablet mode for hours? Will using it for a long time in tablet mode cause damage to the screen? What are the things I need to consider when using 2 in 1 laptop in tablet mode?

Laptopsdirect have taken a month and a half to RECEIVE my laptop for repairs. Not repair it. Just to receive it. It's my little brother's laptop and he's having to do college work on a phone. Don't know what do we do from here?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 10:13 AM PDT

So,this is a laptop that was bought around a year ago for my little brother; I chose it and the money was sent to me to purchase it. The laptop wouldn't switch on - we contacted LaptopDirect as it still had a year of warranty left. For around four weeks, they'd give us a delivery date, nobody would appear, the delivery date would be rearranged, nobody would appear, rinse and repeat until they officially decide that we should send the laptop to them. That's fine. My little brother was left in charge of packaging and didn't include the charger for some reason.

They eventually get back saying it's a battery problem and they need the original charger to test it. My mum sent off the charger separately, and then lost the receipt for the post office so we can't track why the charger hasn't been delivered to them after a week (trusting my family to do basic tasks is clearly questionable judgement on my part). So essentially the charger is lost.

They're going to take a month to fix the battery - and the repair hasn't even started yet. Could I ask for them to send the laptop back (no doubt that'll be a struggle as well) and replace the battery myself? Or do you guys recommending pushing on with letting Laptopdirect repair it?

    customized Laptops?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 06:14 AM PDT

I've been looking into new laptops and I'm really interested in this model: https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-001A-03677

The laptop is an amazing deal, but I'm worried about the "customized" part. It feels suspicious that there's no Asus warranty on the machine, although the vendor includes a one year warranty and the option to buy more. Are my concerns valid? Thanks!

Does Zoom work on the HP Envy x360 13 laptop?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 08:26 AM PDT

I'm thinking of getting this laptop and everything about it seems basically perfect except I've heard that Zoom crashes repeatedly or has issues on it. This is a problem because I'll be using the laptop for school, so Zoom kinda needs to work on it. Is Zoom functioning on this laptop or is it a better idea to get another one?

      £1,000
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes, i'd rather purchase one first hand if possible.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
performance, battery life , build quality
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
As long as the laptop doesn't weigh a ton and its not mega bulky, its fine.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      No
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I'll be doing schoolwork, game developing and video editing(ill be editing with footage from an iphone, 4k footage. And ill be exporting the videos in 4k)
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I won't be gaming on this laptop.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      Good build quality, good keyboard
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

No laptop experience of any kind. Need a laptop for life in a CMV. Wifi etc. Help greatly appreciated!!

    Posted: 02 May 2021 07:47 AM PDT

I just started trucking a couple months ago. I am interested in buying a laptop to play games on. (if there are any good options. Or any that are better option than a console?) I would also like to use it for drawing, etc. I haven't played any PC games in years to speak of. Please keep the jargon VERY simple as most of the numbers and abbreviations go right over my head. Thank you SO much for help or suggestions. Budget... let's keep it below say... $3000 unless that next tier is REALLY something I couldn't miss. Thanks in advance

HP Pavilion 15-bc018nl - Fan Always ON Problem (?)

    Posted: 02 May 2021 07:34 AM PDT

Hi everyone! So I've this laptop (i7-6700HQ, 8GB DDR4, GTX 950M, M.2 NVME 256GB + 240GB SSD ) by some years and I've always used it with the BIOS Option "Fan Always ON" set to "Enable".

I run it, without any problem or blue screen, with the CPU Undervolted to -150.4 mV and under heavy load I reach a maximum temperature of 70 degree on the CPU and 65-70 degree on the GPU.

Like a week ago I've decide to go full quiet, so I've disabled the "Fan Always ON" option in the BIOS and installed a second SSD (I had a 1TB 7200RPM HDD). Everything is fine, the laptop once a while activate the fans and then is full quiet again.

The only "problem" is for example after I play a game; basically I play the game, everything is fine, fans spinning, temperature is normal, and after I quit the game, also after some hours, the fans continue to spin, instead of stopping.

The last time I've played was this morning, so more of 6 hours ago, then the laptop was closed for like 2 hours, and also after that, where was basically shut down in sleep mode, the fans where always spinning (after opening the lid I mean), even if the temperature were normal ( I clean the laptop regularly, by cleaning the fans and changing thermal paste on both CPU/GPU die, the last time was like a month ago).

The only way to "resolve" is to restart the pc, enter the BIOS, Enable the "Fan Always ON", save the settings in the BIOS, enter again the BIOS, Disable the "Fan Always ON", save again, and then the fans are quiet again.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

    Thank you to everyone ^^

Do Intel CPUs offer better longevity?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT

I'm thinking of buying a new gaming laptop for (~$900). I have shortlisted two laptops under that price segment:

    1. Lenovo Ligeon 5 Ryzen 5 4600H GTX 1650
    2. Acer Nitro 5 i5-9th Gen GTX 1650

So when discussing about this to one of my friends who works in a Computer Store, told me that Intel's CPUs are better at longevity of the laptop.

I've been using a i3-2nd gen powered Sony vaio for over 7.5 years. As I have no experience building a PC, nor have I used a Ryzen system, this got me confused. Please help me to get a clear idea about the longevity of the CPUs
