    New SSD dead? Tech Support

    New SSD dead? Tech Support

    New SSD dead?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 10:28 AM PST

    Here's a backstory.

I decided to open my PC and clean it a bit cuz I haven't opened it in a long time.

Removed some dust and etc, everything went fine as usual.

But when I plugged in the cables and started the PC, my PC couldn't recognize SSD(where Windows is installed). I tried opening up the PC and re-plugging SSD, but again, same results. No SSD.

I spent whole day looking for an answer on the internet, looking for a solution or a cause to why my SSD is not recognizable by PC.

Is it possible that SSD is corrupted or maybe it had to do something with power failure or smth?

SSD was bought brand new, used it for like 1 month.

    Kingston 240GB SA400S37/240G.

    Thanks in advance :)

Picture doesn't fill the screen. Desktop resizing is already at max.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 12:12 PM PST

    I just got a new Lenovo Y25-25. I have a GeForce 1660 Super.

The picture displayed on the monitor does not fill the whole screen. I did some googling and all I could find was on how to make the picture smaller (to fix overscanning). I could not find anything on underscanning, and the 'Resize Desktop' tool on the NVIDIA Control Panel is already at 100%. What can I do to fix this?

    Suspicious activity regarding Microsoft account

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 11:54 AM PST

    Hi!

So I got an email that a code was requested to log into my Microsoft account in a very unusual time, so I'm sure it wasn't requested by me.

I checked my recent activity page and there was nothing unusual. When I logged into my Microsoft account, I got a similar email with a code to confirm it was me, but it's slightly different than the earlier suspicious one. Here I'll post the two emails so you can compare them.

    1. The one I did NOT request

    Subject: Your single-use code

    Hi <email>,

We received your request for a single-use code to use with your Microsoft account.

    Your single-use code is: <code>

If you didn't request this code, you can safely ignore this email. Someone else might have typed your email address by mistake.

    Thanks, The Microsoft account team

    1. The one when I actually tried to log in

    Subject: Microsoft account security code

Please use the following security code for the Microsoft account \******.Security code: ******* If you don't recognize the Microsoft account ******, you can click here to remove your email address from that account. Thanks, The Microsoft account team*

Both emails were sent from account-security-noreply @ accountprotection.microsoft.com

Should I be worried someone is trying to get into my account or is there another reason I would get the first email? Are there ways to check the activity in more detail and take more security measures?

Thanks in advance! Hope I'm using the right subreddit :)

My laptop wont charge so I'm wondering if any of these warranties will work

Typing Cursor won’t stop going left.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:28 PM PST

    Hey everyone.

My cat just sat on my keyboard for a moment and now my typing cursor keeps moving to the left, and I'm completely unable to type in any text box (whether it be in a browser or an application like Discord, etc), and if I view a video like YouTube it constantly says I'm going back five seconds. I know this isn't a hardware/software issue but rather some combination of keys he's pressed, and nothing I've googled has helped me so far or is constantly referring to a different but similarly-worded issue.

Looking for a quick answer, please and thank you! I'm making this post from my phone and I need to use my computer for a project today!

Edit: If it makes any difference, my keyboard is tenkeyless.

    Country codes help

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 05:48 AM PST

    Goodmorning at all!

I create this post because I have a question :)

Is there a way to have all the identification codes for the sales region of the various brands of laptops?

    For example:

    HP:

    15 - **** el Italy

    15 - **** nl Italy

    15 - **** la Spain

I know that for HP the abbreviations "el" "nl" they identify the country of sale / distribution in ITALY, while "la" is for SPAIN

Does anyone have a list or could they provide it for these brands (HP / ASUS / LENOVO / ACER) or know where I can find it?

On samsung mobile phones, for example, there are CSC codes that identify the regions (ITV, TTR etc ...)

But what about the laptops of these brands (HP / ASUS / LENOVO / ACER)?

    Is there a list somewhere?

Thank you so much for any replies.

Both Monitors turning off when playing games.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 01:14 PM PST

I recently got a second monitor. One 144hz other 60hz. When playing games (any) both monitors will turn off without warning, leaving me with the game sound still running. The only way i can fix this is by restarting my computer, ive had this computer for about 3 years and had no issue like this. Any ideas?

How can I disable the cards that pop up when mousing over elements in web pages?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2021 07:20 AM PST

Many websites have started using cards to show information about items on a page when I mouse over them.

This is problematic because when I'm scrolling through a page with the Page Down key or my trackpad and the pointer just happens to settle over an element that calls up one of those cards, it covers up the content I am trying to read.

Also, I have a friend who is blind and whenever he's navigating a page, his screen reader will interrupt what it's reading to him and read off the pop-up card.

    Some examples:

    • When I mouse over a profile pic on Twitter it pops up a giant card that covers a large part of the content.
    • When I mouse over a username on Reddit it pops up TWO cards showing different information.

Please don't hyper-focus on the examples. They're just examples. I am not looking for "well you can fix it for Twitter by doing A and for Reddit by doing B." I want to fix the problem for all web pages.

I've tried searching the web for a userscript that would do it and I've looked for (Chrome) browser extensions too but wasn't able to find anything that fixed the problem.

If I could find a way to disable all tooltips globally it would benefit both of us.

(Samsung Galaxy J4 Core) Can't use my frontal camera, in need of an alternative.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:01 PM PST

Cracked my screen exactly where the frontal camera is, but it never bothered me enough to fix it. However, now I've been needing to use a certain bank app and It requires me to use a face id feature, I unfortunately can't because it uses the frontal camera and there's no way of changing to the rear camera for this shot in the app itself. I guess I'll have to change my screen but I really don't have the money right now.

My question is: Is there any softwate that allows me to use the rear camera as a frontal camera ? That makes it so an app identifies the rear camera as the front camera ? If not, is there any other workaround ? I can't be the only person on earth to have this problem, I've tried searching for a solution in both languages I know and absolutely nothing came up, please help.
