Nvme m.2 pcie adapter not being recognized.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:35 PM PST

I am currently trying to make a nas for my personal files. I am trying to boot windows10 (yes I know Linux is better for this kind of thing) off of a intel optaine m.2 nvme drive put into an adapter for pcie. Once I boot into the install windows screen to choose the drive I want to use and then select the drive, it throws an error: "windows cannot currently be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers bios menu". I understand what it is asking me to do, however, I can't find a setting related to enabling the drive in my bios (as the motherboard and cpu are fairly old, as in core 2 quad old). The drive isn't found in the bios however windows does show it in the select drive menu... any help would be awesome! I made a post on another sub about this topic and some one suggested the fact that I don't have an efi bois.

    Windows Longhorn Build 4033

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:38 PM PST

I've recently had the chance to take a look at Windows Longhorn Build 4033. In my opinion, the development history of Longhorn is one of the most interesting, as the UI elements went through a lot of various changes.

One of the most interesting things (in 4033) had to be the sidebar. The sidebar acted like a secondary taskbar... and took up a large portion of the desktop. I'm definitely glad that Microsoft decided to change this in Vista.

Longhorn Build 4033 also brought some interesting features, such as open apps being centered in the taskbar. Pretty cool if you ask me. I would have definitely liked to see this as a setting in Vista / 7.

I also made a full video review here if you'd like to check that out.

    Firewall

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:44 PM PST

Hi so on my computer about a month ago I wanted to put a firewall on my computer and it asked me if I was ok with the firewall changing my device and I pressed "no" because I really didn't understand what it meant. So now today I went on my computer and it said my firewall was on even though I never intended it to be on. Does anyone know why this happened?

Mobile Hotspot turning off when charging

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:35 PM PST

Hello, so I've already dealt with the regular issues that come when dealing with the windows hotspot. Wifi remains on when the laptop is closed, hotspot is not set to turn off by itself, and the laptop avoids hibernation mode. The hotspot remains running indefinitely but only when running on battery. For some reason when the laptop is plugged in and closed the laptop the hotspot is immediately turned off. It remains running when closed and on battery though. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have a surface book 3 if that helps.

Peculiar issue when logging to another user in Windows 10

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:16 PM PST

I am facing a very strange issue when switching users on my Windows 10 PC. Every time I switch to another user, the whole Explorer hangs. I only see the bottom bar with the start button and no other icons. The only way to make Explorer "unhang" is to open task manager , go to users and manually make the prior user "log out". I know this is not how things should work and explorer should not be unresponsive when multiple users are simultaneously logged in. Does anybody have any idea what to do to fix this?

    Thank you.

Is there a way to log my child into a desktop machine remotely?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:02 PM PST

I have a Windows 10 PC that my kids use, but I have the password, so they have to ask me to log in. What I would like is to be able to use an app on my phone or another PC and be able to log them in with a click. Is this possible?

What is wrong with my Mail application?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 12:04 PM PST

I have the most recent versions but after my recent update a few weeks ago, my Mail application started acting weird. It won't load the latest email, get frozen, and shuts off, and every problem I can think of. I tried re-downloading and removing all my accounts, etc but nothing works.

Is there any other email application I can use? I use outlook and Gmail, and I couldn't really find any other application than the default Mail application.

Or is there a way to fix this problem? Or is it just me having this stupid issue?!
