Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:56 AM PST Motherboard RAM troubles Hello, Today I was replacing the pump-red combo in my pc, and when I went to turn it on, the Q-LED (for indicating POST errors) was stuck and blinking on DRAM, so I did the usual of checking if any of the sticks were faulty, no success, then I checked again with another set, bearing in mind that I've used both kits before and I knew they worked. Still no progress, except when I put two sticks of the first kit in Channel 1. This time the DRAM LED turned off, but the Q-Code 00 was still there (was there from the beginning). Swapped out the power supply, no progress, unplugged all excess external devices and internal ones (aRGB) and still, no progress. Really stuck on this one, I usually manage to fix these myself. Specs: Ryzen 5 2600 ASUS ROG X570-E gaming 8gb2 Patriot viper 4400mhz (1st kit) 4gb4 Ballistix 2400mhz (2nd kit) Corsair RM650 (Black Label) Corsair hydro X open loop water cooling Thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated [link] [comments] |
GPU ignoring fan curve. Going into "emergency mode" well before it's safe limit. Posted: 29 Dec 2020 11:27 AM PST I have a 2080ti that's recently started to have an issue I've never encountered before. Although the card is said to be fine up to 89°C whenever it reaches 80°C it kicks the fans up to 4300RPM. No matter what I do this issue had persisted. The first thing I did was to delete msi afterburner which I was using to control the fans. I figured that something went wrong with the program and for some reason it was choosing to ignore the fact I didn't want my favs at 100% at that temp. However upon removing the software and switch to a different program the issue still popped up. After this I decided it was probably some unknown background program I was unaware of and rather than trying to dig through a bunch of stuff looking for it I decided to take out all my ssd's and plug in a brand new one I had laying around. I installed windows, a game, and afterburner but even this didn't fix the issue. Using some monitoring software and msi I found that at 100% fan speed my fans were only reaching just under 3000RPM... Which is 1000 less than when the GPU went into "emergency mode". I also discovered that up until 80°C the GPU was in fact following my fan curve but for some reason something was pushing the fans well past their 100% fan speed limit at that temperature. This is a current issue as before when I'd play other games it'd hover around 85°C without the issues from the fans. I don't know what's changed or how to fix it and would appreciate any and all help in this matter. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2020 10:25 AM PST I've had this computer for about 5 years. Earlier this year, it started not to always boot up to the BIOS startup screen or to Windows at all. All the LED lights on the motherboard are lit up, even when it's off. When I press the power button, the chassis fans turn on, GPU light and fan turns on, hard drives spin ---but I noticed that the CPU fan doesn't always turn on. And when the CPU fan doesn't turn on, the computer won't boot up. It takes multiple power off and power on to have the CPU fan start running ...and then the computer will eventually boot up (maybe about a minute later. Used to boot up immediately) I thought this was a CPU fan issue (like it was detecting that it needs a CPU fan running to boot up), but I don't think it is now. I've just got a replacement fan from Noctua and it still has the same issue. Then I bought a SATA power to CPU fan connector cable and that does power the fan, but the computer still won't boot up. I changed the setting to ignore the CPU fan connection in the BIOS so it should still boot up if the CPU fan isn't running or connected to the CPU fan connector pins on the motherboard. So now I plugged the CPU fan back to the CPU fan pins on the motherboard. So at least now, I can tell if the computer will boot up or not, by seeing if the CPU fan spins. I've been just leaving my computer on all the time, but sometimes it needs to reboot for Windows updates and such ...and then it becomes a pain to turn it on again. Do you think think this could be a PSU issue? --that the motherboard is not getting enough power? If so, I'd rather try replacing that first than replacing the motherboard --as that is more complicated. Also if I did replace the motherboard with a different motherboard model, I'd want to start with a fresh Windows install, right? My specs:
Thanks for your help! Update: I noticed there was a modular CPU2 cable for my PSU. I tried using that to connect to the motherboard, but no luck. Same issue as before. Another thought: Do you think my Power button and the connectors need to be replaced? Sometimes I feel like if I push my power button just right, it'll work, but not really sure. Could just be in my mind. Update2: I just realized that I don't get Post or Beeps when starting up the computer anymore. It used to. [link] [comments] |

How do I fix the ringing coming from my monitor? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 09:18 PM PST So for Christmas, I got a new alien ware monitor (dell aw2720hf). Ever since I lowered the brightness of it, it has begun a buzzing or ringing sound. Sort of like the one you get the day after a loud concert or club. I have read boosting the brightness back usually fixes it. But it has not for me, and it is driving me crazy. I have also tried adjusting with refresh rate and port it plugs into with no success. Posted: 28 Dec 2020 07:48 PM PST So, I've had this old gaming PC I built about 10 years ago. The last few months I had been experiencing really high latency problems, 100% system interrupts, really low FPS, slow boot ups etc. I have a SSD and it takes a solid 20 25 seconds to boot up and even longer for things to start be interactive on the desktop. I chalked it up to aging equipment and recently upgraded to a completely new build. I threw my SSD in the new machine, updated all drivers etc. And am running into the same latency and boot problems. I simply can't figure it out. Any advice? [link] [comments] |

will a us device work in the uk and unlocked? Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:18 PM PST I have quite a few old devices for everyday things and they're getting a bit too long in the tooth (work, personal, etc) and running a 6 year old tablet. I was thinking of doing an upgrade and also cutting all my devices out for a single Samsung galaxy s7+ tablet with 5g. And also some wireless ear buds for calls. I've seen on us Amazon stores that they're very, very, very cheap compared to the UK Amazon site. I've seen on the US site a s7+ with Verizon. I'm wondering, If i purchased this device (my friend is coming over in March) could it be unlocked to work on uk phone carriers? I'm on a cheap Vodafone plan (because I mainly use my phone to call.) And thinking that I might be able to save about 35% on a new device. Is this feasible As an edit, I did a search on willmyphonework and it appears that they work on 2 and 3g, but not on 4g ite. Is it because they're a 5g device? I thought it would have been dependant on uote sim card I thought. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:43 PM PST So I am getting a new motherboard, and I want to use my m.2 SSD which has windows installed and most of my games on it. What do i do? Do I move everything I want to keep onto my 2TB HDD I have then delete windows off m.2 for a clean install? What happens if I delete windows and how do I delete windows? Even a way to wipe my m.2 as everything will be on my HDD. Any thoughts on this, is this ok to do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:31 PM PST Basically "octopus" is a gamepad, keyboard and mouse mapper. It works fine but if you look at the permissions, it's very intrusive. But the problem is that all other mapper apps require root access. I don't want to root my devices because in addition to both the issue of safety and the fact that I don't know how to root, according to the xda forums, my devices have never been consistently rooted successfully. Is there an app that functions like octopus but doesn't have a list of permissions so large that some of which I've never even heard of. [link] [comments] |
