Keyboard types multiple different characters when only 1 character is pressed? It's the same characters Every time. How do I fix?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 02:54 PM PST

    I have a laptop

    Here's what I have tried:

1). Uninstalling keyboard driver 2). Updating bios

I don't really know what else to do

Edit: here's example. Every time I press "e" it types e3. Originally it typed e3c, but after many attempts to clean it, it now does e3. Progress?

The "r" key typed r4v. Now it just types r4.

need to downgrade from Pro (inactivated) to Home

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 03:24 PM PST

I have a PC build with windows Pro installed but I bought a key for Home not knowing I was running an inactivated version of Pro. I don't want to do a clean install of my system and I want to downgrade to Home, while keeping my files, apps, and settings. I searched online how to do this and I went through registry editor and changed the edition ID, Product Name, and all that, but when I go through the Media Creation tool I only get the option to keep my files, but not my apps or setting, or do a clean install. I don't know what I did wrong, and I don't know how I can fix this problem, can someone elaborate?

Keyboard lags for about 5 minutes after entering pin on windows 10- how to know if pc or keyboard?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 06:46 PM PST

My PC suffers from the well known issue of the keyboard hardly working at the PIN (just started about a month ago for the first time in years), but lately it has started to make my keyboard lag, get an input stuck until I another, or just flatout not work. After about 5 minutes it works flawlessly.

How do I figure out if it's my PC, or if the keyboard is just dying out? This one is about 4 years old, and my previous one was 11. I am not expecting this one to have crapped out already, but I cannot figure out what to do to resolve this issue.

I have run troubleshooting/find and fix keyboard on my pc as well, and I recently have unplugged and plugged it back in.

    Recording, Video sync

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 05:13 PM PST

Let's take minecraft for example, when I have it running there is absolutely no problem, it runs buttery smooth. But when I open some sort of video, or if I open OBS the screen starts to tear very badly, is there a way to fix this? If you are confused about what I mean I can show a video recording.

Microsoft store won't download anything or update

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:39 AM PST

I dont know if this has been posted before, I'm running Windows 10 version 1903. I've tried everything from resetting the app and the Windows Powershell trick as well, it'll reset the app and it shows that I'm trying to download things but they'll never actually start.

I'm specifically trying to get the xbox app to install, I uninstalled the Xbox app and even when I try to install it through the site it never downloads. I wasnt using the account that I use to log on to my PC, so I tried doing that for both my Microsoft store problem/Xbox app problem and it still doesn't work. /shrug

    [Help] Legit Windows 10 key

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:55 AM PST

Where is the best place to get a legitimate copy of windows 10 for cheap. I'm building my second PC and plan to sell my first so I can't just transfer it over. I have an old windows laptop, I'm not sure if I can transfer a key from there or not. I am also a student, but my PC will primarily be used for gaming over schoolwork. What are the cheapest options for getting a safe and legitimate copy of windows 10 onto my new PC?

Edit: Because I apparently did not make it clear enough I am looking for Legitimate keys not gray list or black listed keys. I am not interested in pirating or getting from sketchy websites.

    PC stuck on Error Loop

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:55 PM PST

Error: "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart... 100%"

Background: My computer kept randomly restarting so I updated the BIOS (MSI X370 Gaming Plus). When restarting it, it ran into the same error but Windows automatic repair fixed this problem. I then disabled 'automatic restart' in settings and realised that nothing would happen when I tried to open Chrome and the PC restarted into the error as soon as I clicked uninstall. When I try to run the automatic repair this time, It says "automatic repair could not fix your problem."

New PC owner. How do I know if I deleted important OS files accidentally?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:52 PM PST

So I just got my first windows PC in forever and I have a quick question. I installed steam and battle.net but want to uninstall them and the games that were a part of them because I wanted to start over cleanly, but I want to make sure I didn't accidentally delete anything important from windows itself. I used the search bar to type in the name steam and battle.net and only deleted folders and files under that search term and also the folders with the names of games I downloaded. I know this is probably a basic question, but I do t really know a whole lot about the file system and if it's possible to delete anything vital to the OS through it. (To give more info I deleted stuff from the c: and D: directories. )

    SSD brought my computer back

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:24 AM PST

MY computer has been running slow lately so I have been planing to build a new computer, latest AMD with an updated video card, not sure which. The lack of availability is making me wait till they finally get in stock.

This weekend my 500GB boot drive decided to throw up error and I finally was able to bring it back after doing and manual repair. So due to the age i decide to get a 500GB SSD (SATA due to the age of my system) to replace it.

    i5-2500k with 12GB RAM and a 1050Ti.

this system took 12 1/2 to 13 mins to fully boot into Windows and load all programs. Took 2 hours to migrate my boot drive to a Samsung EVO 960. Now my computer fully boots into Windows in 1 to 1 1/2 mins.

Not sure if I need to upgrade my computer for at least 6 months now, just replacing the boot drive has brought life back to an old computer.

    Has this worked?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:26 AM PST

My windows 10 started frequently removing files from the desktop and keeping then only in the user folder. It also reset the start menu and the desktop background picture, and disconnected any account connected to any application.

I opened the terminal as an administrator and ran the following command:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Then i closed that terminal, opened another and ran the command:

    sfc /scannow

After the process was finished, it said something like:

"Windows resource defender found corrupted files and corrected then succesfully" + a bunch of things about repairs and logs.

Am i good? Can i restart/start/update windows without the risk of this happening again?

[SUCCESS] Virtualize Windows 10 for ARM on M1 with Alexander Graf's qemu hypervisor patch

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:07 AM PST

Can't connect to my internet even though I've connected to it often.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:54 AM PST

I am on a portable computer and am trying to connect on Windows. Everytime I've tried to connect to my internet, it takes a long time or comes out as not being able to connect. The main thing is that my connection works perfectly, for my other devices and the TV. I spent about 3 hours at a place and just played a Steam game offline there, and when I went back I tried to connect to my own but to no avail.

Could anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to boot a full version of Windows 10 from a NVME SSD in a USB enclosure?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:30 AM PST

I'm getting a new laptop with a 128 GB NVME drive with Windows 10 Home. I intend on replacing the internal SSD with a 1 TB drive, installing Linux, and putting the 128 GB SSD in a USB 3 enclosure and booting from that in the case that I need to run Windows programs. Is this possible?
