Low fps on a powerful gaming laptop Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:04 PM PST Good day! I own an Asus TUF A15 gaming laptop equipped with a ryzen 5 4600h processor and gtx 1660ti and while i am playing GTA V Online with max settings i only seem to get about 45 fps on average. My friend with a 1650 laptop is getting more fps than me in all games. I was wondering if there is any fix for this issue. (Also i am on Turbo mode and have the high performance power plan enabled) [link] [comments]
I need a part for my laptop and can't find it, mostly because I don't know what it's called Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:31 PM PST Hi all, Apologies if this is a very stupid question. Recently, I bought a SATA SSD (Samsung 860 EVO) for my TongFang GK5CN6Z (sold under the Gigabyte name in the US, but TF is the maker). It's the third SSD in the machine, and I plan to run Linux on it. The problem is that the SSD is way too small for the space in the laptop's case, so I need to attach it to the frame somehow. However, I don't have the foggiest what the piece of kit is called you use for attaching storage to the frame. I'm probably referring to the aluminum part wrapped around the hdd in the top right of this image here. Without the SATA storage installed, the machine's insides look like this (in this pic, the reserved space is in the bottom left). I would assume this is some sort of incredibly standard part, but knowing what it's called would help (it's not a caddy, apparently). Also, if anyone knows where to acquire it, I'd be immensely grateful. [link] [comments]
Razer blade pro smoking out of warranty Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:12 PM PST Razer blade pro smoke out of warranty I have just recently ran out of my warranty on my razer blade pro 2018 model. A few days ago while gaming and on charge there was smoke pouring out of my charging port and USB ports. I've spoken To razer and been told it'll cost £100 to rma and then I have to pay to have it repaired. My thoughts are, would it be cheaper (and also faster) to get done locally? Also after some googling I've found that this seems to be common, shouldn't laptops have more of a shelf life than 2 years. I'm in the UK and unsure of consumer rights on whether I am liable to pay for this since it's not broken on my own fault but an apparent common problem? Also the fact that if I had gone to another room it could have caused a fire it just seems a bit crap. Still turns on, still smokes and smells burning when put back on charge. Any feedback and opinions welcome. Thanks [link] [comments]

Need help choosing which route to take Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:46 PM PST So I'm trying to buy my girlfriend a laptop that she mainly wants for drawing and editing (photoshop & Lightroom). My main question is; should I buy her a laptop and a Wacom pad, or a 2 in 1 laptop with a stylus? LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1500 Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Main question How important is weight and thinness to you? Not super Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Photo editing, drawing, maybe some light gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Rimworld, left 4 dead 2, maybe some others down the line but she's not too much of a gamer atm. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? If 2 in 1 is the way to go, then I guess a good touch screen would be required. And maybe some stylus suggestions would be helpful. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. If Wacom pad is the way to go, I'd like some suggestions on which one to get as well. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
ASUS Tuf Gaming A15 - First Impressions Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:43 PM PST Hello, I just purchased this laptop with the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H the NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB. I have been using this laptop for gaming and some programming and I am impressed with the speed of this device running Windows. I played Borderlands 3 on this machine, playing the entire Eden-6 Story Arc. On badass settings, I played for about 7 1/2 hours, on Turbo mode and the CPU/GPU never went past 80-85 degrees C. I was relieved because I heard there is a heating issue with this laptop, but my model has no issue. I also really appreciate the battery life. At 90 wHr, I don't even bother bringing the charger with me to my girlfriend's house over the weekends. The microphone impresses me the most. I sound clear in Zoom lectures using the silent mode, yet I still sound clear when in Turbo mode on an Xbox Party. Kudos to AsusTek for making the microphone usable when acoustics increase. I have added a second NVMe SSD (great prices now!) and swapped the 16GB of memory with 32GB of memory. I think this device is very nicely future-proofed. I doubt I will be upgrading from this device for at least 5 years. For those who do have this device, how do you feel about your machine? For those yet to buy this device, what's holding you back? Which one of these laptops is best for artist/music production. Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:09 PM PST Ive been researching for a few days before I make my purchase but I've been looking at the lenovo yoga c940 and the surface pro 7. I do digital art and also record music via fruity looks and logic. Which 2 in 1 would be best for me. What are the pros and cons. Not concerned about price. [link] [comments]

Would it make sense to buy a 9th gen Intel processor in 2021? Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:04 PM PST I want to buy a laptop with a gtx 1660 and the only one I can afford has an i7 9750h. Should I buy it? Or should I go with just a gtx 1650 and a more recent processor like the ones they will release in 2021 (presumably the 11th gen). I just want to play Minecraft and stream it, along with some animation and coding. [link] [comments]
Razer Blade Stealth 15 VS Asus Zephrus g14 Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:08 PM PST Hi, I have been looking for a gaming laptop that can also handle my productivity like google docs, spreadsheets, etc... I've narrowed my decision down to the Razer Blade Stealth 15 Base Model with Intel core i7 with NVDIA G-force RTX 2060 16GB ram and the Asus Zephrus g14 with AMD ryzen 9 with NVIDIA G-force RTX 2060 Max-Q. I will be playing games like Minecraft, Overwatch, COD, maybe destiny 2 and Among us and more. Those are just my main games. I understand that the Asus is WAY faster, but both laptops can handle my games perfectly. When it comes down to design, the Razer wins by a ton. Its just so elegant and wonderful. This is a really big and hard decision for me. Please help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:01 PM PST I've been thinking about buying the Acer Swift 3 (AMD) for a while but I've seen that it isn't available on Amazon, at first the price skyrocketed to around 700, then 800 which wasn't a worry because that happens but now for the last 2 days it hasn't been available. I am especially worried about this laptop not only because I want to buy it but because AMD 4000 series laptops have had a history of availability issues like the Zephyrus g14 and the Lenovo yoga something. Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:51 AM PST I have an Acer nitro 5, and bought a 1tb 860 evo for extra storage. After installing it, the drive isn't showing up in Windows or disc management. How do I go about getting it online? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:25 AM PST Hi all, Bit of a laptop newbie here. I have a decent desktop, but working away from home alot, so want to get a half decent for Fallout 76 and some other distance gaming with the other half. Thinking RTX 2070 should be enough to tide me over for a good few years..... My confusion comes when I try to under stand AMD processors vs Intel .... The below links look like good deals at the moment, but honestly have no clue what the AMD version of these might be .... https://www.ebuyer.com/990727-lenovo-legion-7i-core-i7-16gb-512gb-ssd-rtx-2070-maxq-15-6-81yu001ruk So i thought before getting the wallet out, id consult with people possibly smarter than me. Is there an AMD Alternative? It seems like 2060 is only a small decrease in price, but 2080 is a massive increase in price, is there a big performance gap? Any other general advice :) (Edit: Oh in the UK - if that changes things) [link] [comments]

Laptop which is better than the one I have? Posted: 29 Nov 2020 04:49 AM PST I've had an Acer Aspire E15 for over 4 years now and have heavily used it for university work, gaming, and entertainment. I have lost a couple of keys on it and the battery has gone down considerably so looking for an upgrade to this one. I currently run: 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD 16 GB DDR4 (8+8) RAM Nvidia GeForce 940MX Intel I5 6200U 2.3GHz turbo boost to 2.8GHz Is there any laptop(s) out there which have better or similar specs for less than $1k that I can buy? I definitely don't want to downgrade as my current one still works really well, just that it isn't portable anymore and keys missing. [link] [comments]
