Question for those who use or have used cheaper laptops with less features Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:06 PM PST If you use or have used a cheap laptop, have you found it to be worth your money in terms of how long it lasts? I'm looking for a laptop mainly so I can read ebooks and keep in touch with people, so I'm not really looking for any features aside from being able to download something like Libby or OverDrive and use the internet. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:06 PM PST Hi guys, I am looking to buy a work laptop (I work in finance so a lot of excel) but since I work from home that means running citrix (virtual desktop) more importantly. I have heard that Lenovo is the better brand, namely the ThinkPads. I saw this T15 on sale, it looks good but I honestly have no base of reference https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series/thinkpad-t15-g1/p/20S6000WUS. Do you think this is a good deal? What other laptops should I consider? Other: First and foremost I am looking for performance and I like having a numpad. I might be interested in a MacBook, idk how well it will run citrix. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:52 AM PST Hello! I recently got a Huawei MateBook D 14 and I just noticed that when I press Shift+2, instead of the @ sign, I get " instead. I am completely ignorant when it comes to these things and was wondering if there's a way to change this? [link] [comments]

This is a weird question (Covid) Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:13 AM PST So I have to share a Laptop with someone else from work, I've found a silicone cover for the keyboard that can be washed. Is there such a thing for the mouse trackpad for a HP probook? There's no other way to keep germs out of the cracks that I can think of. [link] [comments]
Help with buying a laptop for a friend Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:07 AM PST TLDR: My friend is playing on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) but he can't really play anything more demanding than League of Legends, so when we play anything else, he can't join. I wanted to surprise him with a new laptop, but he is using his MacBook Pro for both photo editing and such so I wanted to check for a laptop with both good display and relatively low-end performance for new games that wouldn't be too pricey. If there is any Laptop Guru who can advise regarding such options since the "best" I could find relative to display quality is Lenovo Legion Y7000 but even then I read the quality is below standard from Gamut perspective. I don't have strict budged but under 1000Euro is what I'm looking for. The most importnant thing is the display and then GPU for low end gaming on new games (low settings etc.) Any advice would be helpful! Thanks! [link] [comments]

How to lower laptop power consuption Posted: 02 Nov 2020 09:34 AM PST Hello, I bought my Dell Inspiron 3585 with Ryzen 3 2200U and plugged in an SSD and threw away my HDD(to the desktop) I need to lower my power consumption. I've disabled the background apps on Windows 10 and using power saving power plan. I can get 4 hours of battery life with Headphones on 2 tabs of Microsoft Edge and Spotify. Is there way to make it longer? and when I checked with batteryinfo my battery is at %70 health after 1.5 years of usage is it good or should I get an replacement? I'm not experianced on laptops (I've been using Desktop since I was an child) I mainly use my laptop for mobility and comfort while writing essays and doing research. Thank you all in advance and sorry for my english. [link] [comments]

Docking station advice! - New XPS 15 Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:28 AM PST I'm gonna be buying an XPS 15 this holiday season. I envision a 2 monitor + keyboard + mouse docking setup at my home. I'm looking forward to buying a docking station. However most of them supporting monitors are like $200+ ( I'm in Canada). Would it be cheaper for me to buy 2 single-monitor docking stations instead? Furthermore, what's the difference between a thunderbolt 3 dock and just type c? Note: XPS has 2 thunderbolt-3 ports on one side, and 1 type-c port on the other. Any dock recommendation? Or advice? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments]
