CPU doesn't matter very much at 1440p or 4k Ultra gaming. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:33 AM PST CPU is important but your graphics card (GPU) still has the greatest influence on your PC's gaming performance. And at 4k or 1440p Ultra settings, the demands on the GPU are so high that there is a very small difference between CPU performances. Check this test from Tom's Hardware, even a 7-year-old i7-4770K can sometimes deliver more frame rates than the i9-10900K: https://www.tomshardware.com/features/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-ampere-cpu-scaling-benchmarks [link] [comments]
[Update] 3070 lost in the mail. Retailer can't reship me a new one. Sad life:( Posted: 01 Nov 2020 04:37 PM PST This is an update for my original post I posted yesterday. I'm refraining from saying who the retailer or carrier were due to not knowing if it breaks the subreddit's rules. TLDR the carrier dropped it off somewhere that was not my front door. After talking to both the retailer and the carrier, the retailer told me they are not able to reship the item for me because it is out of stock. When I asked if they can reship it when the 3070 comes back in stock, they said the system would not let them. So the only option I had left was to take a refund. I'm pretty devastated and discouraged that this happened. I was so close to receiving the 3070 and building my first PC, but it looks like I will have to wait a while... :( Edit 1: Wow I didn't expect this post to blow up a bit. Thanks for the kind and encouraging words :') Edit 2: People wanted to know more info about what happened. My 3070 FE was supposed to arrive on Wednesday, but it was delivered early on Saturday instead. On the delivery details it said "Garage Door", which is weird bc I live in a townhouse and my garage does not have a street number anywhere near it. I went to check around my door, garage, and a good chunk of my neighborhood to see if it was misplaced somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I ended up calling both the retailer and carrier and talked to them for hours. However, today the retailer told me there is nothing they can do about the lost package and they gave me the refund instead [link] [comments]
I might've had the worst year of my life, but at least I managed to build my first PC. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:30 PM PST Started this project in March and I have battled with severe anxiety ever since as I am sure a lot of you have as well. Borrowed an old power supply and GPU and was patient until last week when I managed to upgrade to a 3080. Never in my life had I struggled with mental health issues, and I thought I was inmune to them - what a revelation these last months have been. This post is the usual ''it's not much but it's mine (https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/LRPykX)'' - mixed with ''it's actually a wee bit much in some ways'' but most importantly, a post to tell everyone struggling to reach out: Speak with friends, family, councelling if you can. Diversify the people you open to and it will make it more bearable. And stick with a project. This baby has been my joy and is now my absolute pride. If you want to reccomend any upgrades either pcmodding, visuals or specs please do let me know. As we say from where I am from: ''It never rained that it did not stop'' Stay safe ya'll <3 PS. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:43 AM PST I'm saving up currently to build a PC in the near future. I asked my friend to make a parts list for me that can survive future upgrades I would want to make to the GPU and CPU. My buddy already is gifting me a 1050 ti that I will be starting with GPU wise. Below is the parts list, but just wanted to see what you guys think about it and if the MOBO is necessary for such a build and "future proofing", or if I can go with a cheaper alternative (I would want wifi and bluetooth in regards to a MOBO). *Keep in mind I would like to build a PC that would last several years only requiring upgrades to CPU,GPU, ETC in the future. But I travel for work quite often and have always wanted a htpc. I used some parts from my old build to create this, what I call my "Out of town PC". I am very impressed with the results of this computer. It plays most everything you could want even at 4k 60fps(no raytracing obviously). Temperatures initially where an issue, cpu was hitting 100c and throttling and the gpu would get close to its thermal limit of 84c. Using ThrottleStop i was able to undervolt the 9400f by -170 mv this allowed my cpu temp to not go about 85c after an hour running prime95 small FFTs. Obviously games do not stress the cpu in the same way. For the GPU i also undervolted, i was able to run 1900mhz at 0.931v, this brought Temps down to around 65c when running superposition and heaven. I have lately been playing Farcry 5 at 4k ultra 60fps, and im only seeing CPU/GPU Temps of around 60c. I have the 2 EK Vardar fans running at a static 40% intake under the GPU this helped with temperatures significantly. The CPU fan is running the standard asus bios fan curve. I would compare the noise level under load to that of an Xbox or ps4. But considering the power and capabilities I am overall very happy with it. Hi, I have compatibility problems Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:48 PM PST First at all, sorry for my English, I'm from Colombia. Hello everyone, I'm new in this pc gaming world and I brought my first pc parts in amazon. I don't know many things about compatibility, and I brought a Ryzen 5 3400g with a Motherboard Gigabyte A520I AC. It's weird because in the motherboard internet page says that it's compatible, but other pages don't say that. My question is ¿Its compatible? And if not ¿What can I do? ¿Buy another one? Thanks to everyone! [link] [comments]
I didn't expect this when I upgraded to a 3070 Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:07 PM PST Here are two benchmarks I did in Forza horizon 4, all specs are the same except switched the GTX 1070 for a RTX 3070. Why is it only a 10 fps gain wtf lol. Is my R5 2600X that much of a bottleneck?? (details of my build are in the benchmark screenshots). Why is the 2600x bottlenecking so hard, and what should I upgrade to to avoid this. Like will upgrading to a 3600X even help much benchmarks: [link] [comments]
Are Nvidia GPUs better than AMD GPUs for content creation? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:36 PM PST Hello, I'm currently planning on updating my GPU soon and I'm debating whether I should pick up an RTX 3080 or the 6800xt. I currently have a GTX 1080 and it's performed very well these past few years but I'm concerned, if I decide to go with Team Red, will I lose some of the nifty features with Content Creation software? For example, I use software such as OBS Studio, Blender, and Adobe Premier Pro to make videos on YouTube and guides that I've followed have stated that if I have an Nvidia GPU I can use specific features such as Hardware (NVENC) for example to help with encoding in OBS Studio. As seen with this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRKmNU6U-E0 But I never hear them mention anything about AMD graphics cards. Both the RTX 3080 and the 6800xt are high-end GPUs with similar pricing, but are AMD GPUs primarily used for gaming and Nvidia used for gaming and content creation? Also, I have an R9 3900x as my CPU, I know that Zen 3 will offer some exclusive features that complements the Big Navi cards, I don't know if Zen 2 will offer any benefits but you never know. I haven't decided on 3070 vs 6800 (waiting for benchmarks) but I think the rest of the build is decent. Are there any disadvantages using a higher than required watt PSU? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:38 AM PST I'm thinking of converting my PC into a gaming one by installing 300$ worth of graphics card , an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processor and 16gb ram. I'm thinking of upgrading my psu right now. My current specs are i5 4th gen, 4gb ram and 450w psu. My question is would there be any damage or increased power consumption by upgrading my current 450watt psu to 750w psu even if my pc doesn't currently need one? PC starting to show its age...I think? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:41 AM PST
Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. Hey everyone, I built this PC around 5-6 years ago and lately its been sluggish and very loud. I cannot run any game without the fans running at max constantly. In addition, whenever I download a game about 5-10 min in the PC just gets an extreme stutter to the point where I need to do a manual shut down/restart to get it going again. Not sure if its simply time for an update and if so what parts would need it? List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. Up to date software, and dusted. Post relevant photos of build/parts here. N/A Provide any additional details you wish below. Sorry if the text has any errors, my keyboard double taps its keys randomly...it too is even older about 10 years so likely time to replace. After mush discussion on the sun we figured my mobo was bad in some way. I got a new mobo and everything is booted up, windows installed. I have some tweeks to do but it is coming together. My next question is if anybody has tried buying windows keys online on sites that have it for under $50 usd. I am not trying to get a non legit copy by any means. The site says it is legit but of course they are gonna say that. Anybody with experience with these. Should I make a 2080ti build or is it really worth waiting for the 3090 or AMD GPUs? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:43 PM PST I've been waiting for over a year to make a build. First it was, wait for the 2080s, then the lockdown started, then it was wait for the 3080s or 90s or whatever, then everyone's like wait AMD is dropping graphics cards! I've only built one computer which was with help and over 5 years ago, I'm running a 750ti and wanting to upgrade so I can play minecraft with shaders. I've got plenty of money so budgeting isn't a problem. I want to do a god tier build, I'm fine staying a gen behind hardware wise if it means not dealing with out of stock issues and glitches/bugs newer hardware might have that hasn't been solved before. But no matter what time it is, a lot of subreddits constantly say it's a bad time to build. I'm doing this build on my own so I don't really have anyone to bounce ideas off of, and it makes this decision a lot tougher for me. Is it worth waiting or is a 2080 good enough for 3-4 years? Also 1080p or 1440p? [link] [comments]
is updating the bios worth it? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:12 PM PST i have an year older bios on my motherboard and i just get anxiety that the electricity will go of or something when i update it. it never does actually go but still is very rear. so i just wanna know if is it worth updating it? i dont know what changes it can do... Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:24 PM PST Recently did a new build with my case being a Phanteks Enthoo Pro full tower, I'm still only running the two stock fans that came with the case(1 200mm up front and a 140 in the back) along with the AMD stock cooler. My CPU idle temps seem to hover around 50C but occasionally will spike up to the high 60's. From what I've read top mounted AIO's will have higher CPU temps then front mounted ones, and I would mount up front but I don't think I could get the hoses to reach if I do it with the hoses coming from the bottom like its recommended with the size of my case. So would a top mounted AIO (280 or 360 size) with say 2 or 3 intake fans help with my temp situation or would I be better off just adding more fans overall? Any input is appreciated. Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:09 PM PST This build is intended for modded Skyrim and Planetside 2. These are older games which are quite intensive on the GPU, but multithread suboptimally. My i5-4430 struggles a little bit currently and O don't think more cores will help with these games, so I opted for faster speed. I don't want to overclock anything. I also don't wanna downgrade the GPU because graphical mods for Skyrim can be quite GPU intensive. I only play at 1080p 60fps, which are my monitor's specs. I'm purchasing in Brazil and getting cheaper parts is going to be difficult. I would like the buget under $650. There isn't that much part variety here; motherboards and cases are very expensive for some reason. The GPU I found was actually the Powercolor Radeon RX 5600 XT Dual OC. I couldn't find it on PCPartPicker so the one one the list has similar length(230mm). PCPartPicker also said I may need and older CPU to update the BIOS on the H310 motherboard, which is something that I have on my current computer. My current HDD has windows 10 installed and I have a windows 8 key.
