| YSK: Youtube Vanced app now allows you to skip in-video Sponsor segments with Sponsorblock! Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:54 PM PST Youtube Vanced apk now has Sponsorblock integration. However, it is not enabled by default. Tap the account icon on the top right from the main page. Tap settings. Tap SponsorBlock settings and then turn it on using the first switch. What is Sponsorblock? In short, it's an addon that allows you to seamlessly skip sponsors in a video, including opening animation, end credits, any subscribe reminders or anything else that is a form of advertisement and is not actually considered "content". What is Youtube Vanced? It's a modified Youtube app with additional features, but the most popular is its lack of standard Youtube ads. Why should I use Sponsorblock? It's purely optional. Though did you know that most sponsor segments are just over 1 minute long? If you watch 60 videos, you've lost on average 1 hour of your life looking at ads. Choosing to skipping intros, credits and interaction reminders will save you even more time and can make watching videos more enjoyable. What about for my browser? | Better uses for screen deadspace created by notches and holepunch cameras Posted: 30 Nov 2020 08:53 AM PST I've been annoyed for awhile with how nearly everyone has been blindly putting notches/holepunch cameras on their phones and now that I'm stuck with a phone with it I've been trying to think of ways to better use the deadspace these eyesores create instead of blatantly highlighting them with light backgrounds and letting apps draw over them. First, the dead space (defined as the "ears" created by notches, or the rectangular space to the side of a holepunch camera) should be able to be marked as not drawable by apps. To normal apps, it might as well be screen area that doesn't exist, and the system doesn't report it as part of the screen so they only use the main rectangular space. There should also be an option to ALWAYS render this deadspace as black so as to not highlight the cutouts. Additionally, there should be an option for the system itself to ignore this space and render the notification bar below it. For users who want to tastefully use this space, the clock could be always rendered there (even in fullscreen apps which annoyingly often hide the clock) along with a simulated notification LED (maybe with a number) as well. For notches there generally isn't room for much more than this in the ears, but for holepunch cameras an approach like what LG did for the V20 could work well, where the deqdspace is treated as a customizable notification/information space separate from the main display (maybe even rendering colored rings around the camera to simulate a notification LED). Anyways, just a few thoughts on how to tastefully address the atrocity of screen cutouts in otherwise solid phones. Hopefully a custom rom (or better yet Android itself) will handle these better in the future, including the ability to toggle these at will and tweak the deadspace areas to provide compatibility with phones that might not provide this info to the system. Edit: To be clear, I despise screen cutouts and want to see them go away entirely. This is just a suggestion on how phones people already have with these design travesties can make use of that space. In terms of buying phones without them, I did just that and got an Asus Zenfone 6. However, its missing about half the bands T-Mobile uses and my cell reception is pretty terrible in a lot of places so I'm trying out a Moto G Power that was cheap on sale and at least still has a sd card and headphone jack. I'm not aware of any phones that have bands 66 and 71 which don't have notches or hole punch cameras. [link] [comments]  |
