Saving photos my deceased brother's pocophone f1

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:09 AM PDT

    Hi there,

I have a very uncomfortable problem which I seem to can't solve on my own due to my lack of knowledge in this field: My brother deceased last sunday but did not backup the photos he took on his pocophone f1. Since he died pretty young and there are lots of memories related to his photos we would like to access them somehow.

The problem is that I / we don't know his 4-digit device pin. I can have an active internet connection if I enable WiFi on his phone.

    What I tried already:
-I know the password to his google account and therefore tried unlocking it through google. Apparently you can only let it ring, hard reset or lock it - there seems to be no option to set a new password.

-I tried some combinations and then hit the "forgot code" button which showed up after the 5th try. The only option then was to perform a hard reset.

-I was not sure if I had an active internet connection when I hit "forgot password" after the 5th try. Therefore I entered an incorrect code for the 6th time in hope to see the button again. It didn't show up.

-I asked all of his close friends but no one seems to know his code.

I'm afraid of using too many tries since I read there's a possibility the phone will perform a hard reset after 10 incorrect attempts.

I don't know if he enabled USB debugging but I guess he didn't root his phone although I can't tell for sure. I'm not very familiar with this kind of stuff. I also thought about contacting xiaomi support, could that help in any way?

Is there anything else I can do to save the photos he took? I'm so afraid of destroying everything by accidentally performing a hard reset. It feels so bad since I seem to have everything except for the 4-digit code.

I hope any of you can help me with this.

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:20 PM PDT

Hi guys, I'm about to finally receive my poco x3 this week, however I'm wondering if I should install custom ROM, since most of the people here are having issues with MiUI 12.(battery life, app issues, etc.)

Whats your opinion? Please let me know!

What is Xiaomi.eu, and what differences does it has

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:34 PM PDT

I know it's a rom, but it's official (Delivered with the devices) or its just another community made one?

and what differences or advantages does it has to the global?

and will it have critical bugs on a device which has not been delivered the official version yet? Like Miui 12 .eu for a Redmi Note 9S / Pro

Redmi note 9 stuck in headphone mode and distorted mic after minor water damage

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:42 PM PDT

I was cleaning my backpack and I forgot that my phone was in it. When I got it out it the pocket that is was in was moist but not soaking. So moderate water exposure. Anyway, it was working perfectly until about 2 hours after the I noticed that my phone though headphones were plugged into the audio jack and the mic was really distorted like something was rubbing on it. An advice on this would be really helpful.

Mi 9 App Lock changed from fingerprint to pattern on its own

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:38 PM PDT

    Hi!

So, I use the app lock only for google drive access with fingerprint. As usual I clicked on the drive icon and was prompted with the screen requiring my fingerprint. Literally in the middle of the scan, the fingerprint icon disappeared and turned into the pattern unlock screen. I have never set up a pattern for anything on this device (it only uses fingerprint and PIN).

I tried to see the app lock menus in settings, but to open it, I get prompted with the pattern screen again (it does not appear in the app management, so I can't force stop it either). I tried disabling and enabling the fingerprint use for the app lock, but that did nothing. There is no way to open it with a pattern that was never set and using the "forgotten password" button requires a factory reset, which I don't wish to go through with. Any ideas what could have caused this and/or how to fix it?

    Thank you in advance!

My ordinary journey with Xiaomi ( Nothing too interesting )

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:38 AM PDT

So me too as many people started off in the Android world using a Samsung phone called Galaxy Y S5360. Bad gingerbread with laggy UI ( touchwiz). I hated it and preferred the Nokia phone I had.

Then after few years later got the First Android one devices code named Sprout4. It was MTK powered. It was quite snappy with a decent custom ROM support, Got 5.1.1, 6.0.1 and that's it, then Nought as Custom ROM. But it's battery was only 1700mAh so I never lasted a day but never lagged. After a while I started going to college, away from home, phone just kept dying ( Mediatek goes full throttle for even just music player or so some said, It ate away battery due to shitty power management ) and thus I started to hate MTK.

But during that time, I came across a Custom ROM port, MIUI 6 ( I think ). It was full of bug but had features like Shows who is using hotspots, built in cleaner, app lock, etc. and It was just VIBRANT and colorful. I was fan.

Then I heard about Redmi Note 3 Pro, Big sales. Mid range King, 4000mAh. I got that one and damn, it is fast. MIUI is awesome... then started noticing the ads. inappropriate ads. Hmm... Checked the XDA and WOAH! THe Custom ROM community is flooding with Custom ROMs. RR was my fav then, the pitch black red Substratum theme. It did heat up a little though. Used Android 7,8,9 now 10. Also bought my Mom Redmi 5 Plus. That was super efficient, battery lasted more than one day, deeper blacks for IPS panel, weak Snapdragon 625 but efficient. Custom ROMs are piling up, still now it got the community made Treble support and CAF upstreamed Linux 4.9 Kernel.

So I used it for a while because my college was in a Mountain area, battery was precious. Now I've been back to Redmi Note 3 Pro for an Year now. Community is kinda stretched thin, Lack of Treble kinda made everything dry and buggy, Android 10 is somewhat stable but Android 11 is kind of a distant dream. Add to that my Phone's battery has degraded to mere 1700mAh ( I think 1700 is a cursed number now ). But it's still kicking, I dropped it a few times but I've never shattered the glass. just one dent in past 4 years ( that's me kicking the vibrating phone thinking it to be a rat while in sleep ). Now about to sell it to someone and I have mixed feeling about selling this and I can't sleep so I'm randomly typing in stuffs about it in reddit.

( Yes talk about being attached to a phone that I used to take good pics with my friends in college with Google cam, 6 hrs of music playback during long travels back to home, showing off the Custom ROM features to my friends and many other ).

    The end.

So what did I learn about phones by Buying Xiaomi phone? Rationally.

    • Snapdragon for better battery and least standby drain
    • Better gaming capabilities if Snapdragon
    • Better Community support for snapdragon
    • Better Kernel source releases if Xiaomi + Snapdragon
    • Friendly group members for every Xiaomi development groups in telegram
    • Phones lasts long if it has more than 3GB RAM
    • Snapdragon 650 > 625 but more efficient means better battery and longer life span but still better than 400 series.
    • Avoid MIUI with ads in front of teachers and parent since you never know what ads are going to come up.
    • Xiaomi used to provide affordable hardware that last longer.

    ###---Rant time---###

But now, Most Redmi Phones come with an MTK chip whose XDA page for development is like desert. Telegram groups have people complaining about bad camera focus, bad network speed, standby drain and bad battery after just 6 months and so on. ( MTK & SD are SoC, not just CPU & GPU, Your network speed, ISP all are part of it ). There are few Snapdragon devices but they are priced too high for users like me who just need a screen and a camera to read pdfs and take pics of books & plants. the 90 & 120Hz and other stuffs raised the price too damn much and ads are everywhere, since there are stuffs that cant be disabled.

Kinda sad but as long as there is a good Community support, I will stick with the low end Xiaomi devices.

All this MTK and High Hertz gimmicks was caused by one little game.

PUBG Mobile. I hope that game dies. Stupid game that ruin batteries of phones with heat. Making all phones to focus on performance instead of longevity. Horrible game that kids are now addicted to.

Take my advice and go for Snapdragon variant, Kernel & Schedulers matters, It's not just about performance, The modem, DSP and everything matters or you will get stuck with bad download speeds.

    Scheduled power on/off not working?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 03:11 PM PDT

    Hi

I have a mi mix 3 5g running miui 12. When I go to set scheduled power off at say 23:00 and power on at 23:02, the phone switches off fine but at 23:02 it doesn't power back on?

Am I doing something wrong? I feel I need to use this function as my phone is getting the weird awake on bug all the time and my battery life is dreadful when the bug happens. I don't want to have to manually turn my phone off and on all the time.

    Thanks

Switching from iPhone 7 to Redmi Note 9, need some info and tips for using android/xiaomi phone

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:29 AM PDT

So after comparing tons of different phones around my budget I settled on the Redmi Note 9S which will be delivered next week Tuesday.

Just wanted to get some general tips, things I should do once I purchase my Android/Xiaomi phone or any other advice.

What's the best/simplest tool for debloating?

Will i get MIUI12 on the note 9S?

Is it worth getting a custom ROM, if so which ones should i look at?

What are some tools or issues I should take advantage or be prepared for?

I'm really a fan of stock android, what's the best app resources to make my phone as close to stock as possible, with and without root.

Should use 15 watt or 33 watt charger for POCO X3?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:14 PM PDT

Hey guys, I was checking out Dave Lee's review of Poco X3. He mentioned that the 33w charger will deteriorate the battery life faster as there's no protection in the phone for it. He adviced to use a 15 watt charger. Please tell which should I use as I am okay with using a slower charger to increase the device lifespan. Thanks!

    Xiaomi/Redmi 5 inch phones?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:02 PM PDT

I can't find it now, but was there a buzz around Xiaomi about planning to release smaller phones again?

I feel like I got excited for this, but I can't remember when that was LOL. They also haven't come out with a smaller phone yet either, but It would be awesome if they could do some small budget phones again, I really don't need a redmi note 7 sized phone again. ( I just miss smaller pocket-sized phones).

Dim home screen wallpaper? (after disabling dimming wallpaper)

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:35 PM PDT

My new poco f2 pro just got the miui 12 update, and after reinstating my previous wallpapers, I noticed that both, lock and home screen wallpapers looked weirdly dim. A quick google search later, I went and disabled the wallpaper dimming in dark mode and the issue was fixed... For my lock screen. Even when I disable dark mode completely, my home screen wallpaper stays dim! Anyone know how to fix this bug? Getting frustrated
