Looking for a "screen time" alternative for Windows Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:17 PM PDT Hey all! I use the screen time feature on my iPhone to limit my usage of certain apps. Basically, it greys it out and doesn't let you use it after using it for a certain amount of time. I know time sense can show me daily usage, but is there anything that can limit my usage? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:28 PM PDT I decided today to re-load an old Windows 7 PC using it's built in feature to do that. But the version of windows does not include SP1. And the windows update won't work at all. I expected that new fixes are not being made but did not expect there to be no trace of the ability to download Windows 7 SP1. MS seems to have purged the internet of this update and I can't find it anywhere. Can I get this somewhere? [link] [comments]

Windows XP laptop won't boot to linux on USB Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:21 PM PDT Yesterday i tried booting to linux mint on my windows xp laptop. I went into my BIOS settings and check to see under the boot menu and see this (when my usb is connected) When i reconnect my usb again it wont show no linux mint logo or anything sign of linux trying to boot, but instead it boots back to windows and shows this. when i shut it down again it keeps on boot looping and shows me this every time i try to enter into windows xp. Can someone help me with this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:45 PM PDT So is there any way I can make some sort of a detector/sensor for my PC desktop? So for example, I put a cursor on something, and when it changes, I get some sort of a warning... Like alarm? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:07 PM PDT Title basically. Was given an old school computer lab PC and I'm looking to flip it, but I don't have the password. Tried the shift restart > troubleshooting > reset method but it never completes the reset without an error message. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments]
Windows 10/365 updates take like 14 hours and never work the first time. Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:57 PM PDT Windows 10/365 updates take like 14 hours and never work the first time. It's annoying. Jesus H. You Know Who can't Bill Gates throw in a few billion to make them faster? Like, "Hey I know I don't work here anymore but here's a ton of money I'm not gonna give to starving kids anyways so make the downloads faster. Thanks!" [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:53 PM PDT IDK why but Every time I try to open the Windows Security, it looks like its trying but it instantly closes.. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Advise: Local or Microsoft account? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:53 PM PDT But I hate the one drive integration. ouse this weekend (One a clean setup, the second a new laptop). Windows 10 Pro. My last four/five setups, I've done the Microsoft account. I guess I like the usefulness of it syncing settings. Somewhat. But I hate the onedrive integration. And because I'm (relatively) uber safe about passwords, I have a randomized 20 char password along with two factor authentication. Which is a pain to put in especially the first time. Too bad I can't show a lastpass QR code to the camera. I just want to be able to quickly login (Yah, I have the PIN settings on.) Is there a reason that I'm a fool to make my new setups local? Or should I have been doing this all along. It seems like the big things are:
So, am I cutting off my nose to despite my face? What was the key point that made you go local or not? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:09 AM PDT I get straight to point. I got laptop (dell g3 3779) and in windows colour setting there's confusing listing about my display capabilities. Says stream HDR videos: YES Use HDR : NO What's up with that ? Can I watch/play using HDR or no ?!? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:33 PM PDT When I wanted to go into advanced recovery menu It always showed me only option to repair startup or turn off the machine. I have this windows in vm and its unable to start, my host is linux. I would like to rescue some data from this .vdi file or just get the windows going so I would be able to access the files and copy them.I tried new installation of win 7 in vm and dragged and dropped the damaged vm to desktop, but its not even showing up there yet the diskspace is used. PC behaving really weird... (crashing) Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:01 PM PDT Specs:
Besides xmp no overclocks. Problem: All my games (I mainly play Valorant) run perfectly fine but once I close the game or tab out the pc crashes. There are 2 options so far how the pc crashes, number 1 is that everything freezes for like 2-3 seconds and the recent sound is stuck in a loop (so it's like a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound). After that the pc automatically restarts and everything seems to be fine again. Number 2 is that the screen will just go black while all the rgb is still on and the fans still spin. So basically under heavy workload my pc runs just fine but without/ light workload it crahes. This error occurs normaly once every second-third day. If I remember correctly this problem began ever since I play Valorant (so ever since the closed beta began). Tried:
Every answer is highly appreciated, also sorry I am not a native english speaker so my english is not the best. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:27 PM PDT I have couple of PC:s that will get the fresh WinXP installation in near future, but they are not going to get connected into internet, as they'll be part of a closed intranet. I have used the "Self Service for Mobile" before, but the site is nowhere to be found. How can I activate the installations now? [link] [comments]
Need help with Windows Start and Apps Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:02 AM PDT This is a little weird maybe but I desperately need help and either I'm not looking it up correctly or there's nothing online about my specific issue. The start menu and basically every Windows app (like the calendar or the settings) is going crazy, it's as if i were pressing the tab button or the arrow keys to navigate them.... except I am not. It's not an issue with the keyboard because it only happens like I said with everything Windows related, not with other pages. I really have no clue as to how to fix it, I basically can't use anything on Windows because I can't even click on it and it's driving me nuts, I'm a little desperate for help particularly because I cant' really afford to take my PC somewhere to get it fixed, I need it for work and college and I can still kind of use basic stuff. Any help will be nice, thank you!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:43 AM PDT Hi! heres my problem. I updated the xbox app and everything was going well, but when i tried to open a game, the app crashed for no reason at all. After that, when i try to open the Xbox app, nothing happens, and rn i cant play anything that i have in there, It seems like the problem just happens on my user account, because i can open it on my brothers account. Does somebody know how to fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:10 AM PDT I added a HDD to my laptop yesterday. I had windows on my 512gb nvme SSD. After adding HDD, all the files on my SSD became read only. So I am planning to freshly install windows 10 from a usb. How do I do this without removing my existing HDD and does it fix the problem? [link] [comments]
