New XPS 13 7390 (2020) Blue Screening From Sleep

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:09 PM PDT

Used Dell Command Update to get all software\BIOS updates, and have all Windows Updates. It shipped with Windows 10 version 2004 (the May 2020 Update). Below is the following errors I get when it comes out of sleep mode (I notice it sometimes blue screens while in sleep mode after ~30 minutes as the fans speed up, but it also sometimes blue screens right away). The error code is usually 0x0000014f but I have a few records of 0x0000019c and 0x0000019f. The ntoskrnl.exe always seems to be the affected file, along with a few other system files.

This laptop is only a couple of days old...is this a known issue? I have blue screen minidumps if needed.

edit: One of the entries in bluescreenview shows "driver power state failure" as the google-able error code (1/4 of my minidumps, rest don't have a error code).

I already ran supportassist to verify that my drivers were all up-to-date.

How do I change "Do you want to automatically share changes as they happen?" to no on word on my Lenovo laptop?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:06 PM PDT

On word on my Lenovo laptop when I hovered my mouse over save and clicked "This command is currently disabled." Something came up which said "So you want to automatically share changes as they happen?" And I clicked yes by a mistake, then I thought "I want to change it to no, so I'll click This command is currently disabled again, and when I see Do you want to automatically share changes as they happen I will click 'No'" so I clicked 'This command is currently disabled' and I didn't see 'Do you want to automatically share changes as they happen?" I clicked again because I have to make it no but no matter how many times I clicked it, I don't see that pop up so I can change it to no. What do I do so I see that pop up again to click no to change it to no? And why?

Is it worth buying a slightly worse gaming laptop with thunderbolt over a great gaming laptop without thunderbolt just for having the option of using an external GPU?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:56 AM PDT

I currently own an old Dell Inspiron 15R SE, whose GPU has died. The experience of having a dead GPU has been horrible (been living with it for 2 year without its dedicated GPU).

I am now looking to upgrade and I don't want such thing to happen to me again and be in a helpless position (yes I could have just swapped out the motherboard because the parts like CPU and GPU are soldered on, but that is way too expensive to be worth the money!).

I really like the Asus Zephyrus G14 but it doesn't have a thunderbolt support and so it can't be used with an external GPU. My only options are power hungrier and hotter and not to mention more expensive Intel gaming Laptops! My budget is fixed so I will be getting a slightly worse laptop if I go the Intel route. So is the option of an external GPU (aka. thunderbolt support) really worth this trade off? Or should not be so paranoid about my experience with my current laptop and just go with the Asus Zephyrus G14?

    Alternates to HP Envy

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 11:04 AM PDT

What would you say are the main competitors to the HP Envy 15" with Ryzen 7? I have been having a look around and like the look of this

    https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-x360-15-6-amd-ryzen-7-2-in-1-laptop-512-gb-ssd-black-10206950-pdt.html

I would be using the laptop for general day to day, bit of productivity (relearning my old degree and hopefully learning to code) and some light gaming.

    Thanks

Internationally buying a scam gaming laptop for $100.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 04:10 AM PDT

So today I decided "to heck with it I feel like wasting $100." All because I stumbled apon a website claiming its selling a laptop with a I7 10750h and a rtx 2060. I thought really hard about what I was doing. tried researching it and only found it was a Chinese company, ultimately I figured it'd actually be kinda funny throwing $100 in the trash for something probably worse then a chromebook. Will definitely update later when something new happens. Wish me luck!

Which one of these laptops is the most reliable? (for daily use and last 4+ years, no gaming)

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:53 AM PDT

Ok so I don't care about gaming performance.

I want something to use Blender Eevee, may use an eGPU for rendering

I just need an all metal build on the slimmer side with a good screen. That's pretty much it. These are the only metal laptops I can find that meet that criteria.

Just adding I shut down my laptop every time it's going to be unused for an hour or more and never leave it on the charger. I don't know if Razer Blades break from being used as desktops and being slammed with gaming (which in my experience gets things hotter than sculpting or design) Or if they actually suck as bad as people say.

edit: lmao I meant MBP 2019, 16 inches

For reference I'm coming from an MSI Ghost. 860m and i7-4700HQ.

Is 4.8 lbs heavy for a laptop for college? I bought a Lenovo 3i Laptop for some casual gaming and general work and now I’m worried it might be heavy once I get it.

Looking at my laptop's screen kinda hurts my eyes

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:11 AM PDT

I think it has to do with blue light, I've never been much of a laptop guy but now I actually NEED one, so I got a one, and it's kinda straining my eyes, my Desktop has an amazing screen that comes with a built in Low blue light mode, and I think this is what's messing me up.

I tried changing it in desktop itself but it just makes the screen orange, my desktop has normal whites and it's very easy on the eyes.

Any tips to make it more confortable?

Also windows built in "night light" changes the moment I click away even tho I have it to be activated now and to schedule it "off"

Do we need nvdia mx450 with intel 1165g7?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 10:21 AM PDT

I am looking to buy a laptop with new tiger lake processors. It is said that the onboard xe graphics are as good as mx350. I am reading online that we cannot use both integrated and dedicated graphics at the same time (not sure). If that is the case does it make sense to pay extra for mx450? Please help.

My dad got a hold of my laptop in the middle of the night and now I can’t save on a document

    Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:32 AM PDT

My dad got a hold of my laptop in the middle of the night and now it says 'Word(Unlicensed Product) now this is a Lenovo laptop and Word comes with it so it's already an app that comes with the laptop. I can't auto save or save and I'm guessing he's done something since he knows how to program where now Word is now an "unlicensed product" and for some mysterious reason I can't save. Help me so I can save and auto save my typed document as I currently can't. Please.
