Need a good laptop for graphic designing and video editing Posted: 28 Oct 2020 11:12 AM PDT I'm planning to get a new laptop to replace my 5 year old desktop PC, but i need a laptop that is powerful enough to do video editing and graphics designing stuffs. I have a look at the ones at the computer store near me recently and was very confused on which one to choose now. Any good suggestions on it? [link] [comments]
Looking to upgrade SSD in Helios Posted: 28 Oct 2020 01:38 PM PDT I'm a computer science student and will need to use Linux next semester so I'm looking to install it alongside Win10. To make everything run smoother I was thinking I'll upgrade my hard drives (128GB SSD + 1Tb HDD) and run them on separate ones. I know the HDD is interchangeable but not sure where the SSD is even located. Would a SanDisk 2.5" 240GB be alright instead of the HDD? it's the cheapest (£36) I could find with my budget but I'd like to use it to run Win10 so I'd have to clone it from the 128 GB SSD or something. And then I'd clear out and use the 128 for Ubuntu. Will this be fine? My lecturers are shit so it's not like I know actual computer science -_- Laptop: Acer Predator Helios 300, released in 2016 [link] [comments]

Laptop specifically designed not to have internet? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 09:50 AM PDT Hi all Sorry for the clunky post title but it's a bit of an odd question. I'm about to be going into a rehab facility (addiction etc; unfortunate but needs to happen to get my life on track again) and one of their rules is that you can't have internet-enabled devices except for your phone for a few hours a week. My main hobbies are reading and writing, and I have the handwriting of an infant so I type instead. Old-fashioned 'word processors' aren't available anymore, but I thought perhaps a modern equivalent might exist. I've looked around but I can't find anything that doesn't at least have wi-fi capability, which is an instant 'no' from the facility. So I was wondering if anyone has ever seen such a thing that I could buy so I can keep myself writing while I'm away from home for the next few months? If anyone might be able to advise I would be eternally grateful. All the best to you all. [link] [comments]

Can a 1.4 HDMI do 4K 60Hz somehow??? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 01:26 PM PDT Hey brothers, I want to buy a monitor, and I want to buy a nice thing to last long... and to use with future laptops, so I want to buy a 4K monitor. Although my current laptop only has 1.4 HDMI, theres a chance, somehow to play 4K at 60Hz? I want to use the monitor mainly to code and work, some youtube, Netflix will probably happen. I do not have a usb-c port or a mini display port. By the way, if i only use 2K with the same monitor, can I have more Hz? Hugs mates, stay safe and wear mask! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Oct 2020 01:19 PM PDT I could use some help deciding what laptop to buy. I am an engineering student who also likes to do some gaming. The 2 processors that i have seen in my price range (of about $700ish) are the Ryzen 5 3550h and the i5 10300h. Any suggestions on which is best? Thanks! (Also they are both matched with a gtx 1650 and about 8Gb of RAM along with an SSD) [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Oct 2020 01:04 PM PDT I've spent a lot of time trying to decide on whether to buy a new Chromebook or to get a Linux machine like Tuxedo or StarLabs. For various reasons, mainly that all the Linux machines are lacking in minor features, I have decided to go with a Chromebook. The issue is, my current Chromebook has a Celeron N2840 @ 2.1GHz. It cost me 200€ on special, but was 250€ full price. However, anything I'm finding now even close to that price point is only half the speed. Are these machines worth it at half the speed ? For example. Acer has a Chromebook 314 and 514 retailing at around 280€ with clockspeed of 1.1GHz. To get a 2.2GHz machine, the price is around 600€. Am I missing something ? [link] [comments]

Laptop screen randomly turns black when I switch between chrome tabs... Posted: 28 Oct 2020 12:21 PM PDT Hi everyone I bought a HP ENVY x360 Convertible 13-ar0xxx in March and I've not been having a great time with it... kinda annoyed, especially when I paid so much for it - wish I got a Mac instead now lol. It's been pretty slow, crashes when I have a lot of tabs up (my old laptop didn't do that and that was 7 years old). Forget all that, the latest thing it's been doing is going black screened whenever I switch a tab. Happens randomly and it's super annoying. Please can someone help me? Additional info about the laptop: AMD Ryzen 7 3700U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.30 GHz, 16GB, 64-bit Operating System, x64 baser processor. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Lenovo C940 (14"), Yoga 7i or XPS 13? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:35 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm in the process of buying a new laptop and after narrowing it down, I'm left with either the Yoga C940, the Yoga Slim 7 or the Dell XPS 13. I was also looking at the Spectre x360 but the small touchpad isn't for me. I've never owned a Lenovo product so I don't know much about the build quality but I've seen a lot of complaints about the XPS 13, which basically led me here. I'm looking for a great and fast all around laptop (no more than 14") for college, internet browsing, YT/Netflix streaming and occasional photography/video editing (Photostop, Lightroom, Premiere). The specs would be an i7 with 16GB of RAM and a 500 or 1TB SSD. Are there any major performance differences between the C940 and the Slim 7 since the price is so different? And how do these models compare to what are considered the best of the bunch (XPS or HP Spectre)? Thanks! TL;DR: Which laptop is the best performance-wise between the C940, the Slim 7 and the Dell XPS 13? [link] [comments]
Why is my MacBookpro running so hot Posted: 28 Oct 2020 09:03 AM PDT My grandma gave me her old MacBook pro (2013) and it's running at 110F to 120F. I feel like these numbers are high but I don't know what I could really do. Like reapply thermal paste or what? [link] [comments]
Want to buy a new laptop, need help! Posted: 28 Oct 2020 08:18 AM PDT Hello fellow redditors, as stated in the title, i need a laptop, but very clueless, what device would be the right one. Background: I just finished school this summer and I´m about to start at university to study Aerospace engineering. Because the ongoing pandemic most of my courses will be online, but also some face-to-face events like my software/programming classes. So in conclusion: The laptop is mainly for educational purposes, but shouldn´t lack some performance. I don´t have a prefered brand/model. The price shouldn´t exceed 600 €. I´ve already digged a bit into the topic and picked two models which may be the right choices*, but I´m really insecure about this topic, because there´s so much money involved. *1. Honor MagicBook 14 (53010WHU) - 529 Euro
I´m thankful for every response and hope you can help me! If you need any further information, I´m happy to provide them! [link] [comments]

HP 2-in-1 won't recognize convertible sensors Posted: 28 Oct 2020 07:03 AM PDT Hi all! I am working on refurbishing an HP ProBook x360 G4 EE, an 11.6" 2-in-1 laptop/tablet that is marketed towards education. I received it with a locked BIOS as the only problem and was successful in removing the password. However, now it seems that the machine has presented another issue... The laptop has sensors on board to be used when the device is in tablet mode that allow it to tell Windows when the screen has been folded back to use as a tablet, as well as allow the screen to be rotated and the keyboard and touchpad to be disabled while the device is in tablet mode. According to HP, this is done using two drivers: the Intel Integrated Sensor Solution and the HID Sensor Collection v2. Unfortunately, attempting to install the Intel driver results in a "platform not supported" error, and neither the sensor solution nor the HID Sensor Collection appear in Device Manager in Windows. I checked in Linux also and did not see either device. Has anyone encountered this issue before and has success in resolving it? I'd love to bring this device back to fully working order. Thanks! Posted: 28 Oct 2020 06:59 AM PDT Hey guys I'm looking for a laptop with enough processing power so I can do all three of those things on it. I'm starting up YouTube channel, working on digital comics, and streaming on twitch. I know I can buy and build a PC that has enough processing power for gaming and video editing, but I want a 2 in 1 so drawing will be easier. [link] [comments]
Lenovo duet Chromebook worth buying? Posted: 28 Oct 2020 03:06 AM PDT I'm looking for a tablet to help in my college work and classes. I've heard Lenovo hardware is usually trashy for cheaper models and they get slow and laggy, is it true? Other competitors would be samsung galaxy s6lite and ipad 10.2. [link] [comments] |
