Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:14 PM PDT Hey guys, I will be going to an engineering college in a few months and I need a laptop for that. I want a thin not so heavy max 15" laptop mainly for college related work and coding on which I can also play games like gta5 and minecraft. I don't want a typical bulky gaming laptop so I was considering mba but I have no knowledge of laptops and it is kind of expensive. Thank you for any suggestions [link] [comments]
Need help finding the perfect device(s) Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:22 PM PDT Firstly, I apologize for the length of my query. I appreciate any feedback :) Intro So my computer requirements are fairly complicated, since there's not exactly one device that can suite my needs (as far as I know). Therefore, I'm trying to pick the best TWO devices for my workflow. If there exists a product that fits all my requirements, please let me know! Requirements First, I need a device with power. I create 3D models and amateur animations as a hobby, and I definitely need a computer that can keep up with my demands. Currently, I own a Lenovo Legion Y530, which has worked alright for me so far, but I could definitely use a bit more power under the hood. Second, I need solid battery life. I'm out and about quite a bit, and I need a device that lasts fairly long while away from the house. My current Lenovo lasts only about 2-3 hours on battery because it's made for power, not battery efficiency. My current thoughts on what to purchase Idea 1) Desktop Workstation/Gaming Rig & General Use Laptop: This option gives me the power I need at home, then the battery I need during the day. Laptops I've considered for this purpose include any MacBook, the Surface line, and the Dell XPS line. Idea 2) iPad Pro & Workstation/Gaming Laptop: This option would give me more portability for both devices. The iPad Pro would be used primarily for general tasks/note taking, and would serve as my "laptop" when on the go. (It would also probably end up being my main entertainment device.) The laptop would serve as my main PC for heavier tasks, with the added ability to bring it to a meeting, etc. if I need that power away from home. Laptops I've looked at in this category include the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 and the Lenovo Legion 7i. Idea 3) Single Device (Not sure what device would fit all these categories). If you've made it this far, thanks a bunch! I'd love to hear your thoughts about which setup/devices would work best for my needs. Thanks for reading :) [link] [comments]

Help with administrator bios - compaq presario cq57 Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:34 PM PDT I'm not well-versed in this end of computers, but my uncle wanted my help in fixing his Compaq Presario CQ57. He can't login because he doesn't know his password, he doesn't know the answers to any of the recovery questions, and I don't have a password reset disk to use either. I tried making one via usb but apparently I need to have made one from his computer specifically, which I can't do since I can't get in. My time spent on Google would seem to indicate that I need to access the bios as an administrator and change the passwords from there? However when accessing the menu through F10 on startup, it asks for an administrator password, which i don't know, and after a few failed attempts of guessing I was given "System Disabled 65953259". I tried searching for this code specifically and came up with nothing. I also was unable to boot in Safe Mode via F8. The laptop seems to be windows 10, if that helps. Honestly, I'd rather just get him a newer-ish laptop anyway, but he's extremely fond of this one. I will gladly take any suggestions, and I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit. Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:36 AM PDT I need some advice. In college we were told we need a good laptop to run solidworks and autocad from home. I was advised to get a gaming laptop as the graphics card will make a sizeable difference. Would i be ok with an •Acer Amd Ryzen 5? •8gb ram •GTX 1650 with 4 GB dedicated memory • 256gb ssd Or should I pay the extra and go for a •MSI intel i7 •Intel® Core™ i7-9750H Processor •RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 256 GB SSD •Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB Is going to have to be able to run a few programs aswell due to it being online. Any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
What GPU/CPU should I be looking for in a laptop? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:45 PM PDT Hey guys, I need help finding a new laptop, I've never shopped for one myself and I'm kind of confused about what gpu and cpu I need. I like to draw and use Blender, pretty much any laptop can handle a Wacom tablet, but I don't know what I need for Blender. I made this character a few years ago on my old laptop with a 860m and i7-4700HQ http://imgur.com/gallery/Afbeh8a it technically worked but it lagged a lot and was difficult to paint. I mostly just make this kind of stuff and weapons. Here's another thing I made https://imgur.com/gallery/ShBMLWO I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15 9500, and Razer Blade base for doing this kind of stuff and I'm wondering- is the 1650 ti an ok graphics card and is the 2060 overkill if you're not gaming? Is ASUS X509J laptop strongly built and durable, being usually problem-free in the long run? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:10 PM PDT I'm considering to buy this laptop which has good specs for my needs, but my only concern is if ASUS laptops, particularly the X509J, is robust and will last for a long time? Just to give you some perspective on my level of "care", I've had an HP G62 for almost 10 years now, that although it's missing two keys, the touchpad no longer works, the fan is very noisy, the body is cracked on one side, gets heated up very easily and it's rather slow, I can say that for its age it still works quite well. Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT So I'm going into sixth form (I believe 12th grade in the U.S). I'm going to need to take notes etc. Although I am an avid lover of the iPhone I have never wanted to switch to Macs because of the obvious problems switching between Microsoft files and Apple files. So my question is... can I really switch to an iPad for a laptop and is it worth around £1000 or should I just buy a laptop for a similar price. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:38 AM PDT Hey guys, im a first year engineering student in need of a new laptop, i was looking at acer nitro 5, i5 9300h paired with a 1650 for 950$, but saw the alienware 13 r3 with i5 7300hq and a 1050ti 2gb for 850$, i really like the portability and build quality of the alienware, especially its oled display, so should i go for it or are its specs too lackluster. Im especially worried about the 7300hq as it lacks hyperthreading. I will be using this laptop for university (CpE) and some light gaming, and I'd like it to last at least 3-4 years before any slowdowns. [link] [comments]
RAM & NVME UPGRADE FOR LENOVO LEGION 5 15ARHO5H Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:30 AM PDT Hi all! My question is regarding the Lenovo Legion 5 15ATH05H type 82B1 that I recently purchased. Im reading conflicting reports where some people say this laptop is upgradeable to 32gb ram @ 3200mhz native, meanwhile Lenovo Support tells me the max it can utilize is 16gb. It can be upgraded to 32, but will only ever utilize 16gb max at once. Can someone shed light here for me and please provide their experience. If you upgraded to 32gb, does your system use ALL of it at 3200mhz natively? If so, what is your CAS latency?, Which did you get/should I get? There's so many out there and Im not sure which will work the best for me with a good CAS latency. Regarding installing a second NMVe SSD, I was looking at the the Samsung 970 EVO Plus. Is this a good one to get? I found, what looks a great deal, here:great deal, here Hope someone can help =) [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:02 AM PDT What if, on my laptop, I added a spot to add 9 volt double a batteries that when the original battery ran out (which happens so fast) It would turn to that! Its a little like a gaming laptop, so how long do you guys think it would last on 2 batteries? It has the space, but I'm not sure... [link] [comments] |
