[DEV] Early users get free sync between Android and webApp - Podcast player app

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:16 AM PDT

    Hi all,

    Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.podurama.podcast

I posted here more than a month ago about our podcast app and got great response. I thought I will post some updates on it.

We have now added some new features along with improving current ones:

    - Skip Silence and Volume Boost

    - Curated Collections

    - Smart/Auto Playlists

    - Auto Downloads and auto-mark episode as played.

    - Add to Queue

    - Option to choose SD card for storing downloads.

    - Improved recommendations

    - Ability to mark all episodes as played

and many more in the pipeline :)

Along with this we already have these features:

    • Providing very focused personalized recommendations
    • To sort favourite podcast episodes into tiers.
    • To take notes for podcast episodes and making that notes private/public depending on whether you want to share it with the community.
    • Keep track of listening patterns

Please let me know your thoughts. I would appreciate any feedback and will try to add any features you need.

It also has many other features like ability to search over 700K podcasts and millions of episodes, create unlimited playlists, offline listening, custom rss feeds and lot more.

All the early users will get free data sync between unlimited devices (including the webapp at https://podurama.com along with the mobile apps).

    Thanks!

Which F-Droid client do you prefer? And why?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 08:15 AM PDT

The original F-Droid is slow and am not a fan of its UI too.

Someone said 'Aurora Store' and it looks good but, are there any other options that are better?

A small request: Please suggest a ciient which can show apps from various known repos (F-Droid, izzyondroid, Guardian Project etc..)

    Thanks!

[DEV] Pure RSS - rss reader / news feeds / podcasts

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:42 PM PDT

    Hi r/androidapps,

I made an RSS reader if you'd like to try it out:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eliza.com.pure_rss

    • Free.

    • Does not track, mine, or sell your data.

    • No ads, and never will have ads.

    • No sign-up required.

    • Can view in-app or launch to browser.

    • Has a large database of feeds (about 3,000 and growing) to search and subscribe.

    • Support for adding youtube channels and subreddits.

    • An intuitive UI with support for swipe to save / hide items, long press to copy links, triple tap on a channel title to dismiss all items, tap to sub / unsub, tap to view in-app / launch to browser.

    Some notes on known issues:

    • Long press in a web view will cause normal scrolling to become disabled. You can fix this by going back and re-opening the page. It's a bug in the framework upstream of the app. It will be fixed eventually.

    • There's no import / export of channels to OPML yet but this is in development.

    • Adding youtube channels is not user friendly and requires either the channel name or the channel id. The channel id is more reliable which you can find by viewing source on a channel's home page and searching "externalid". e.g., for PowerfulJRE (Joe Rogan Experience) the external id is "externalId":"UCzQUP1qoWDoEbmsQxvdjxgQ". It is not user friendly and will be reworked.

    • Rarely, a message "Current feeds have no data" may be displayed. Exiting and re-opening should fix this. I don't have root cause on it but I think it's related to the app being background killed. Steps to reproduce this issue will be helpful if you do run into it.

Pure RSS is in active development with many improvements in the pipeline and open to suggestions for new features!

    Looking for two apps

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:37 AM PDT

Not sure if it's ok to ask for two different apps in the same post, but I thought that two post could be annoying.

Anyway, I'm looking for two apps:

    1) A Telegram Apps that has a widget that displays new messages, so that I can read them without opening the app (WhatsApp has the same widget)

    2) A "programmable timer" that allows me to create a set of timers with different duration. I would use this for stretching, for example I would like to be able to set:
    exercise one: 40 sec
    rest : 5 sec
    exercise two: 40 sec
    rest: 10 sec
    exercise three: 25 sec
    and so on...

    Thanks! :)

Looking for app to draw route on map

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:07 AM PDT

I am looking for a (free) app to draw a route on a map and export the route in standard format (e.g. gpx). Also, the app must automatically fit the drawing line to the streets.

Tried the following app and it's perfect, except the price ... it's too expensive, i don't want to buy it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lapacadevs.justdrawit

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:41 AM PDT

What are some podcast players that can run multi-platform (Android-Windows), apart from Pocket Cast, Podcast Republic & Google Podcast? Looking for free options or at least a One time Purchase. Also, I have premium of Spotify & it does have Podcasts in it, but I'd like my music & Podcasts apps to be different apps.

    Need Screen Brightening App

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 10:07 AM PDT

Is there a brightness app that uses a white filter to create artificial brightness? There are plenty of apps that dim by using a black filter, but I can't find one that uses a white filter. A white filter gives the illusion of increased brightness by brightening the shadows and midtones without affecting the highlights. And it has no effect upon hardware. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

    Ereader App with Sync capabilities

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:42 PM PDT

Hello there, I am rather new to android ecosystem and would like some advice regarding ereader apps. Specifically, I would like an app with sync capabilities, so that I may read from my computer and then switch to phone and have a (relatively) seamless transition.

I have a fair amount of epub files organized through calibre that I would like to import into a proper ereader app that has the above mentioned Sync capabilities.

Bluefire and Moon+ seem to fit this function; if anyone has any experience the usage of these apps in this function that would be greatly appreciated. They seem to be the best options, but if there are pros or cons to either that would be useful to know.

If there any apps that could function similarly, I would very much appreciate any recommendations.

    Thank you

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:32 AM PDT

Sumio is a puzzle game with simple rules. To solve the Sumio puzzles, drag number tiles from the bank to squares on the grid so the columns and rows sum to the indicated values.

Your feedback is highly appreciated and will help me improve the app.

Designing Android Apps ~ Is there a C API for this?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:29 AM PDT

I want to design Android apps but I was curious to know if there are any C APIs or something that allows me to purely design my Android apps in C in a high level manner and an easy fashion way?

Is there a C library or something that can interact with the ndk, for example I pull all the apps installed on the user's device? If so is there more boilerplate code in doing this compared to doing this using Flutter in Dart programming language?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:57 PM PDT

I know, this question is probably asked a ton, but I have been using kiwi browser ever since I stumbled on a similar thread a while back. I was wondering if it's still considered the best, or if there are any other alternatives, paid or not.

Did I just install a Virus?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:54 AM PDT

Found the link for an APK on another sub, foolishly didn't check it myself since it was upvoted... Turns out the it's not the original website, so I might have downloaded a harmful app. I gave the app permission to download and SMS, but I don't have a SIM anyway. Quickly uninstalled it. Now, should I do a factory reset? Or am I OK?

Advice to myself, check every link, especially on the subs related to shady stuff, a lot of users there are very stupid...
