Do nearly 10 year old sim cards need to be updated? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:06 PM PDT Hi all, not really and Android specific question, but we are Android users. I've been searching all evening for a definite answer to this, but can't seem to find one. My wife and I both use unlocked phones, and as such haven't had a need to upgrade our sim cards in nearly 10 years. Though our phones are newer (Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy A20), we've never been able to use 4G despite living in an area that has it. It's never been an issue for us...at least it won't until 2021 when 3G is shut off. No matter how hard I try, I can't get either of our phones to connect to a 4G network. And I've tried numerous methods! Is this because we need to upgrade to newer sim cards that support it? If so, things should be straight forward for us...get new SIM cards! [link] [comments] |
What makes it so difficult for the manufacturers to roll out timely software upgrades? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:05 AM PDT A lot of phones today either have non-existent or infrequent software updates barring a handful of devices. I am curious about the technical aspect of rolling out a proper update to a device and why exactly is that such a daunting task for the phone companies in spite of many people constantly complaining about the same. Why do some apps have much higher APKs than shown on the Play Store? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:49 PM PDT I'm making an older phone with low storage work while I figure out what to get next. I look for apps that won't take up too much space, but often once I download them, the app itself (not the data or cache) takes up much more than the size number given on the Play Store indicates. This happens immediately after downloading, so I'm pretty sure it's not update. Why does this happen, and is there a way to tell before downloading which apps will balloon in size? I also find some apps collect a large cache quickly, even if there seems to be little information saved on the user end. Again, what might cause this and can it be predicted? I've found that FDroid apps tend to avoid these problems, but I don't really want to limit myself to them. [link] [comments] |
Chrome App Opens New Tab Every Time I Open the App Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:01 PM PDT I have a Pixel 3 XL running the latest version of Android. Recently (the past few weeks) I've noticed that every time I open the Google Chrome app it opens a new tab. This results in me eventually opening a large number of tabs (sometimes 30+) without knowing. I've dug through the settings and done multiple Google searches and couldn't find any info with anyone else having a similar issue. I know I could switch browsers, or just close the tabs manually at the end of every day, but I shouldn't have to, it works normally for years. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Motorola files, "app is not installed?" Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:57 PM PDT I installed some things from Chrome I'd like to turn into apps, I install them into files and go over to my files, I tap on the file and it says "Staging App" once it's done it gives me the option to turn the file into an app "Install" or "Cancel" I press Install and then it says "App is not installed." How do I fix this? I have plenty of available storage and I don't know how to fix this, I would like to install the app from files, it just won't work for me. [link] [comments] |
How does the Samsung note 8 compare to the Samsung a71 5g? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:55 PM PDT Im Considering an upgrade, how is the samsung A71 5g? My current phone is a samsung note 8. I'm also considering the Samsung A51 5G. I want the Samsung note 20 ultra. But I'm not made of money. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:47 PM PDT Okay this might seem a little off topic but my One Plus 5T is almost 3 years old and was working perfectly fine until recently when the display has started blinking and the screen goes completely black for 3-4 seconds. Any suggestions or troubleshooting of any kind that might help? Or do I have to spend to get the display changed? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 02:53 PM PDT Note: this is my first root/flash! Im looking for a quick way to root a Kindle Fire 8.9 (android ~5.0, firmware 8.5.1), and it seems to be difficult to find any explanations that make sense to me. Additionally, i ned a good O.S. that works for the hardware. Does anyone know of anything *for sure* that works? [link] [comments] |

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Volume keeps rising on it's own. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:28 PM PDT I just noticed that my tablet constantly raises the volume without me doing anything. It keeps bothering me and I tried everything by restarting and configuring my settings but it kept going. I went into Safe Mode and it stopped but when I returned, it kept rising again like nothing happened. I restarted at least 3-5 times already and the problem still persists. I tried searching for every post I could find but none of it relates to the issue I have. I don't know whether it's really the device since safe mode proved that it worked, but I don't know what app is causing it's volume from constantly rising without my permission. This will be extremely problematic at night time as it's pretty loud in my apartment and I hope any one of you can help me out. [link] [comments] |
Why is the new Google in-app browser so bad? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:28 PM PDT They've swapped between the new and old one a couple of times (the new one is with "fancy" page loading animation).
What was wrong with the old in-app browser? It was fine. Why do Google insist on pissing around with things that work? Why not put that time, money and effort into fixing things that don't work or are just bad (YouTube Music etc)? [link] [comments] |

Auto-Rotate only when using Google Photos? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:40 PM PDT Is there a way to have Auto-Rotate always enabled when using a specific app? I don't want to have to toggle it constantly when viewing landscape photos since I don't like keeping Auto-Rotate always on. On some stock-trading apps, tilting the phone would trigger viewing the price history of a stock full-screen -- and this is whether or not I have Auto-Rotate on. So I'm sure it can be done. Is there any way to screenshot and save it to a specific album? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:36 PM PDT I often screen memes and other posts from reddit and crop them but it's just so annoying to go into my gallery then hold down the photo then press move to my reddit album. Any apps or something? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:39 PM PDT So i have a note 10 and the S pen just snapped like a twig when i dropped it. Why does it always fall out when you drop your phone??? Are replacements expensive? Has this happened to anyone else? And the big question is, is it still waterproof? [link] [comments] |
does my device reset after rooted firmware update? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:19 AM PDT Hello everyone, I own a Oneplus Nord with an unlocked bootloader running stock firmware atm. I first ran rooted firmware but because the version back then was unstable (causing problems with my wifi), so I insalled the stock firmware back. Now I want to update the phone to a newer version but this time the rooted version. I'm a beginner in therms of rooting but I want I'm not sure if my device is going to be resetted after booting the phone up into fastboot and after that flashing the firmware. The proces of the rooting is almost the same as in this video (https://youtu.be/UVABAEGRgew). I assume if I update the firmware from a rooted version to a newer rooted version the result of it resets or not will keep the same. Thank you for helping Edit: problem is solved, I just updated the firmware and there was no reset [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:40 PM PDT Often when I cut a video the file size will increase massively, usually going up to about 86 mb, even if its only a couple seconds long. What is causing this? Edit: S9 [link] [comments] |
Why does my phone keep saying download failed? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:29 PM PDT I have a Samsung S9+ and every couple minutes a bubble will appear at the bottom of the screen saying "Download failed". Nothing is downloading. I tried turning off text message auto download and even tried force stopping the download app. Why does this keep happening? [link] [comments] |

Galaxy J7 no longer gives me the abilty to pinch and zoom when taking a photo with message+ app. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:28 PM PDT After a recent update to I assume my message+ app when taking a picture I no longer have the pinch to zoom feature. In fact I don't see a way to zoom in at all. Anyone else running into this issue? thanks. [link] [comments] |
Disable Battery saver - Samsung s10 with dead display Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:17 PM PDT Hello Everyone. I smashed the display of a Samsung s10 (shame on me), and I could connect to it through the "Your phone" Win10 app. I have been dealing with that for the past week or so until I mistakenly changed battery mode to max saver (duh), and now I can't access the phone. The only thing I can do is connect through USB and see files (which I have already made a backup of), and I was wondering if there's any config file, maybe, that can be changed that could be read if I hard reset it so I can connect again and use it "virtually" until a new phone arrives (I know I could change the display for around $200, but makes no sense if I'm getting a new phone in about 2 weeks. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:07 PM PDT I've got a pixel 4 xl running up to date software. The notification shade cuts notifications in half when pulled down. It looks like it doesn't fully go down. Is this happening to anyone else right now? [link] [comments] |

Why does messaging STILL do this? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:43 PM PDT I had a s7 for over three years and recently upgraded to a S10e. However, whenever my group chats get hot and a lot of messages start coming in (they all have notifications off too), they stop downloading. It was insanely annoying on the s7 and I cant believe it's still happening on such a newer phone. Every single google search comes up for issues other than the one I'm having. Has anyone found a fix to this or do they just use a different messaging app? Eventually all the messages will download but its annoying to all of a sudden happen. [link] [comments] |
