    Laptop Help!!

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:05 PM PDT

I have two laptops that i am looking at getting. both are $1300 and have the same screen size, i7 core, and 1 Tb ssd. The only thing that is making it difficult is whether I get the one with 4k or the one with a better graphics card ( nvidia GeForce gtx 1050 vs 1660 Ti ). Also the one with the lower graphics card is the 4k one but has 16 GB vs the other with 32 GB. Any help would be appreciated.

    Ram Upgrade

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:39 PM PDT

    Hey guys

i'm thinking of upgrading my laptops ram. It currently has a 16gb 2666mhz ddr4 chip in it and I would like to put another stick in.

I was wondering if it would be okay to get ram from a different brand than the one that it came with (sk hynix) as long as it's the same specifications.

Where I live it's hard to get straight up sk hynix ram sticks but other brands are available.

    final choice(s) xps 13 9300, (1169) vs envy x360 (1000) vs zephyrus g14

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:27 PM PDT

girst of all, i would like to say sorry for asking so many questions on this sub. i tend to get carried away when doing research on an expensive item.

will be used for school, along with some web browsing/photoshop and maybe some low-tier steam games on the bus to pass time, maybe valorant if i have extra time on my hands. i looked at the g14's ghosting, and it seems to not really bother me, as i am used to 60hz screens anyways so i can't tell unless i am looking for the ghosting.

thank you! (and i promise this will be my last post about this)

HELP! Im looking for a new laptop, and i would like your opinion between 2

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:38 PM PDT

I need a new laptop for school which can last at LEAST 3 or more years. It should also be able to handle tougher tasks, but not gaming since i already have a desktop. If you are curious the models are ASUS Zenbook 14 UM433DA (ryzen 7 3700u), and a HP 14-ck2853no (i5 10210u). They are both pretty much the same when it comes to specs, and are also both on sale. The HP is on a much better sale and costs about 350$ less.

The biggest difference is that the ASUS has a better design and feel more premium, and it is of aluminum whereas the HP is made of plastic. The ASUS also has a bit more functions as well. I don't know if the ASUS is worth the extra 350$ tho.

Some games on my laptop after a few minutes makes the whole system to lag alot whenever i have other apps up like browsers and things like that, and i have to wait until it gets better and then i can play normaly until it happens again.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:33 PM PDT

I own a Dell xps 15 and and whener i decide to play on it while having other apps up either on the main or second screen/monitor it starts lagging the whole system. Sometimes in only 1 or 2 minutes, but other times it gets much longer. Its confusing because the laptop can run games like skyrim just fine(even though it gets a bit warm), but then i play games that shouldn't be very hard to run even for a budget pc, and i still get that problem. The task manager doesnt show too many background prosseses(under 80/90). Only having one browser up while playing is enough to make this happen.

    Laptop cpu question / Advice

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:20 PM PDT

Hi all, so first off i am 'ok' when it comes to desktop cpu's but with laptop cpu's /gpu's i have no clue.

My question is how much of a difference is there from the AMD A6-9225 , AMD 3 3200u, AMD 5 2500U, AMD 7 3700U and AMD 5 3550H [H = 'gaming' cpu?.. please note the ' '] [Also are they comparable to there desktop counterparts? eg: 3200g vs the 3200u]

I take it all of the above will be using AMD vega graphics[?] as none of the laptops in question mention a dedicated gpu apart from the AMD 5 3550H.

Final question.. AMD Turion x2 vs AMD A6-9225... how much of a difference performance wise for home use/very old games? yes i know it will be a difference but will it be noticeable?

I have an old turion laptop atm[not used in years, so it will want new paste and and ssd] and want to use it for an old game/tv/the net when not at home/in bed and dont know if its worth getting a new £300-700 laptop when i dont really 'need' one as i can just 'fix' this one old... ... your views are welcome Pro's for a new laptop = 1080p, con's = money, all that lovely bloat wear, and by the looks of it no disk drive :'[

    Thank you

    DELL INSPIRON 7559

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:07 PM PDT

Can I fix a HDD and a SSD in my Inspiron 7559? My original hard drive crashed and I have one ssd with me currently. I just don't want to waste it and somehow fix it and 1 more HDD in my laptop. The thing is, my laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, so the the caddy trick won't work. Any suggestions?

    2 in 1 laptop feedback

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:55 AM PDT

Hi I am thinking about buying a 2 in 1 laptop over a normal laptop for school and light gaming. As I have never used one nor do I have anyway to try it out before I buy it. I would really like some feedback on from those who have one.

Such as how is the writing experience been for you guys using?

How comfortable is to write one ?

How fast can you write using one?

What is your experience been using it in lectures to write notes?

Could you see yourself writing a essay on it?

Does the touchscreen make stuff easier for you ?

What are some of advantages that you have found over using a normal laptop ?

I am currently looking at buying a hp envy 360 15 inch I aware that would not be most comfortable in tablet mode but like the screen size.

    Refurbished Laptops

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:13 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I'm looking into purchasing a refurbished laptop for grad school. It will mostly be used for typing papers and researching. Nothing else. So it doesn't need to be super fancy. Can anyone suggest a trustworthy brand? I've had a HP in the past. Walmart has quite a lot on sell right now but I want to get one of quality and not just the cheapest deal

Under 100% load some CPU cores run cooler than others

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:12 AM PDT

I have an Acer Helios 300 with i5 8300h processor and a GTX 1060 with 16 GB RAM. I have underclocked it using throttlestop to reduce temps. I had also repasted it using artic silver 5 thermal paste as I was experiencing throttling.

The throttling has reduced now but I have noticed that while stress testing/ playing games the cpu clocks at 3.8 GHz. Out of the 4 CPU cores 2 specific cores namely core 0 and 2 remain relatively cooler than the other two( for ex. around 10 C cooler, the other two run in the mid-90s).

I would like you to note that my room temperature is usually around 30 C. The idle temps of CPU are around 40C for all four cores.

I would like to know if this is normal or is there any problem.
