    Why is Mi 10 getting so heavily outperformed by Poco F2 Pro/OnePlus 8?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 04:35 PM PDT

    Hey guys!

    While looking around for a new phone, I stumbled across both Mi 10 and the OnePlus 8. After deciding to do a little research, I found these two speed tests:
    Xiaomi Mi 10 vs OnePlus 8
    Xiaomi Mi 10 vs Poco F2 Pro

    How is it possible that the Mi 10 is being so heavily outperformed by two other phones with almost identical hardware? In the case of Pocophone, they both even have the same OS, so I don't think that's the main issue.

    I wonder if Xiaomi execs see the 1000's of people jumping to a different, cleaner ROM

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:13 AM PDT

    I just wish that they would put the resources to make a clean global version with no bs apps and tracing slowing it down, it would hands down be the best Android OS in my opinion...4000 mah battery should last an average day

    Hey guys! HELP ME!! ft. RN7Pro

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:16 PM PDT

    So I'm new to this shit. And therefore I fucked up. Here's the story...

    The Problem:

    First I unlocked my device. Then I installed TWRP. And I think I wiped everything. And then tried to install the MIUI 12 from https://www.xda-developers.com/download-miui-12-stable-update-rolling-out-several-xiaomi-redmi-mi-poco-devices/ (The last link) but I didn't work. There was some error (i'm sorry but idk what error was there). But I had another zip file for MIUI 12 from the EU beta that I had downloaded earlier from xda forums. I copied that file to the internal storage and Viola! I booted to MIUI 12 running on Android 10.

    Now, I downloaded an update from the system updater (xiaomi.eu_multi_HMNote7Pro_20.7.16_c8df9dcc0_v12-10.zip)

    (The one that is installed is: xiaomi.eu_multi_HMNote7Pro_20.4.30_v12-10.zip)

    I downloaded the new rom from system updater itself. After download, it shows 'Check MD5 & Install'.

    When I press it, it shows a notice that internal storage is encrypted. After device is rebooted to recovery, i need to enter the password. Then it prompts whether to continue installing or not. I press 'Yes'.

    Now the device tries to boot but does not move past the Redmi screen.

    What I tried to do:

    So I wanted to install the new rom update by flashing it through the twrp. So, I switched off the device by pressing the power button. It rebooted but now I can't reboot to the twrp. I can still reboot normally & enter the fastboot mode but I can't enter recovery. I tried to install the twrp again. But can't do shit. I also tried to reboot to recovery mode from the updater options but it just shows the Redmi screen. If I keep holding down the (Power+ Volume Up), the redmi screen gets looped.

    #What do I do?

    Edit: The device, while left for close to 15 mins to install the update through the system updater, the device is now switched off. I switched it on only to find out it's functioning like it was before the update. It's still the same.

    Accessing google assistant with locked phone

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:06 PM PDT

    I've been searching and it seems that this is a problem with all xiaomi phones. There's no option to unlock the phone/access google assistant by saying OK Google. I saw an old post where people said there's no way to change that. I would like to know if that's still the case.

    Android 10 update broke charging on Mi A3?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:04 PM PDT

    Hi folks,

    Could really use some assistance resolving a bizarre issue I'm having with my A3.

    My wife and I both bought identical Mi A3s ('Phone 1' and 'Phone 2') and, to take advantage of the fast-charge capacbilities, identical Cygnett PowerPlus 18W chargers (CY3085POPLU, 'Charger 1' and 'Charger 2'). Everything about this setup has worked perfectly on both devices until now.

    Yesterday, I accepted the OTA update to Android 10/June security on my phone ('Phone 1'). Ever since, Phone 1 has been unable to charge - upon plugging in the USB-C cable from either Charger 1 or Charger 2, the charging LED light flicks on, I get a notification ping and vibrate, Android flashes up a 'charging slowly' message, then half a second later the phone seems to 'disconnect' from the charging cable only to 'reconnect' again a half-second later, going through all the above again. This carries on endlessly, with Phone 1 sitting there pinging and buzzing away to itself until I remove the cable, never actually charging.

    Attempted troubleshooting findings:

    • Phone 1 does not charge from either Charger 1 or Charger 2;
    • Phone 1 does not charge from either Charger 1 or Charger 2 with a different USB-C cable;
    • Phone 1 charged perfectly from both Charger 1 and Charger 2 until the Android 10 update, including charging from Charger 1 all the way through and during the OTA update to Android 10 (phone was plugged in at the time) - fault only started after reboot to apply update;
    • Phone 2 (still on Android 9) works perfectly on both Charger 1 and Charger 2;
    • Phone 2 (still on Android 9) works perfectly on both Charger 1 and Charger 2 with the same USB-C cable used to test Phone 1 with both Charger 1 and Charger 2;
    • Factory reset of Phone 1 after Android 10 update has not resolved issue - continues to be unable to charge from Charger 1 or Charger 2;
    • Other USB-C devices (old Mi A2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite) all charge without issue from Charger 1 and Charger 2.

    Would appreciate any advice on how to resolve this - as far as I can see, the Android 10 update appears to have completely broken USB-C power delivery negotiation on the Mi A3, and I have no idea where to go from here to fix it. Obviously, my wife is very reluctant to apply any updates until this is resolved, which completely defeats the purpose of buying Android One devices.

    Service Center denies warranty

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 05:48 PM PDT

    I have a redmi 7A. Few days ago, the bottom circuit board stopped working. No charging,No touch,no sound. Went to the service center and they took in the phone only to deny repair because-

    i) My phone was unlocked. No custom firmware or TWRP. Just unlocked. And apparently Xiaomi india warranty doesn't cover unlocking.

    ii) My phone was bent.. I don't know how this fucking thick chonk of a phone got bent from an year of daily use.

    However, Opening up the phone and reassembly fixed the phone and they didn't charge me. But they told that the warranty was void anyways.

    Draw your pattern AFTER a factory reset??

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:56 AM PDT

    After doing a factory reset on my Redmi 5A I connected to network, accepted the term and conditions and selected the option to Set up as new however after "checking info" a screen appeared with the title Draw your pattern along with this message: Your device was factory reset. You can unlock it using your previous password, I assume it's referring to my old lockscreen pattern but it says is incorrect, I have no idea what other pattern it must be referring to and if the phone had a factory reset how could it be asking for a password in the first place?

    I did the format with the power and + volume buttons is there another method for this specific model?

    Why is the screenshot crop tool so dumb? Why is there a minimum size?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:15 AM PDT

    I really don't understand why they would do this. I like the screenshot tool overall, but this is incredibly annoying. If I want to take a screenshot if something small I have to go in my gallery app and crop it again there, in order to get the size I want. Is it possible to fix this? It grinds my gears

    Worth changing from a Redmi Note 8 to a Samsung Note 9?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:16 PM PDT

    I've currently been using a Redmi note 8 for the past year and it's been handling my daily tasks fine. However, I have the option to switch to a Samsung galaxy note 9 for free within the next month or so.

    I know that in terms of processing power, the Samsung is much better but how do the two cameras compare (using gcam on Redmi). Also would like the NFC features that the Samsung offers but that can be managed if a mi band 5 variant with NFC comes out. Another factor is the life of updates that the devices have, as the Samsung device came out in 2018 and is on Android 10. With miui12 coming out some time next month, would it be worth it to just stick with the Redmi and ride out it's longer update life?

    Thanks in advance!

    MIUI Experience Europe

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:22 AM PDT

    Hey, currently planning to go for the Poco F2 Pro in Europe. The only thing that is still kinda hindering me from buying it, is the OS since I heard about bugs and (possible) bloatware and ads. The latter should not be a problem in Europe (hopefully), but the bugs would really be a concern.

    And how is Xiaomi regarding their OS updates in Europe?

    thank god xiaomi.eu didn't let me send mms

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:23 AM PDT

    After my Mi 9 started to slow down i decided to flash a new rom, I chose to stick with what I already know and enjoy and that's xiaomi.eu. Soon after flashing, I realized I couldn't send group message texts, or mms, which was a problem a small minority of users had and there seemed to be no fix for it. I begrudgingly flashed the pixel experience rom and god damn is it a million times better. Sure there are some issues: "ok google", AI button dont work and GCam doesn't work with 48 mp camera, but the software is just smoother, snappier, and more enjoyable to use. I highly recommend it and if you've been on the fence about trying it definitely go for it.
