Can anyone tell what's the best gaming laptop to get under Rs55000(under$700)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 04:38 AM PDT

So I'm more of a casual gamer and I haven't gotten a new laptop for the last 6 years, so I'm out of the loop and don't understand most of specs nowadays. I need a laptop that's got a good balance of work and gaming (a little bit more inclined on the gaming side ) . Any input would be greatly appreciated

    Should I wait for Ryzen?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 04:28 AM PDT

I've been in the market for a new laptop with the primary use of Video Editing and content creation. The 10th Gen intel stuff isn't very exciting compared to the Ryzen options out there like the Asus G14. Unfortunately the Ryzen chip hasn't been paired with anything more powerful than the RTX 2060 MQ for a GPU.

Do we expect to see any new Ryzen laptops sometime this year? Or will we have to wait until 2021 for better options? My 2018 Razer Blade GTX1060 is starting to show its age when editing in Premiere and I'd really like a RTX 2070 or better but I don't want to invest in an intel chip with half the performance of these new Ryzens!

Is this laptop a good deal? $1399 --> Acer predator Helios 300; RTX 2060, i5-9300H, 8 GB, 512 GB SSD

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:57 PM PDT

I feel like this is a really good deal, and it's cheaper than any of the other helios predator models that are being sold at the store. The thing is with Covid19 - they say it's a final sale, so I'm hesitant because of how good of a deal it seems like. Should I wait it out for a future sale when they're taking refunds ?

Schoolwork, Sims 4, Speed and Storage

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:50 PM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:*

Up to 100,000$ARS (Argentine Pesos) would roughly be 1,400$USD

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'd like to use a notebook as a desktop computer, would be stationary, so battery life would be no issue. Performance and then build quality.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Doesn't matter to me, but not too chunky.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    14 or 15 inches.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Microsoft Word and all of the apps in office, Premiere for video editing (used sporadically though) and The Sims 4 with expansion packs.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    The Sims 4

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I'd like a pretty spread-out keyboard (I don't really like empty space at the sides). Number pad would be great but I'll be ok without it. Must have a camera for online classes.

I basically want it to run at a good speed, and also have space for photos and videos (was thinking about 1TB). I was considering SSD but I'd be left with too little storage space, so I'm looking for 8GB of RAM or a good processor. Considering that I often work with a lot of tabs open + Spotify.

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:09 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      20000-40000CZK (750-1500€), Czechia
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
    • Build quality, 2. battery life, 3. performance, 4. form factor (no 2-in-1 please)
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      rather thinner, lighter
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
14-16" (15", 15,6" would be the best); rather 16:10, but 16:9 is ok too; 1080p and higher
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Visual Studio Code, Atom (with lots of addons), Blender, Maya (learning at school next year), Photoshop/GIMP, Unity
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
      N/A
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
USB-C charging, big touchpad, finger-print reader, preferably numeric keypad (but isn't necessary)
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I use Linux and not all finger-print readers have drivers for it. I would prefer NVMe SSD, no HDD. I think integrated GPU would be fine too as I render externally, not sure if it would be suitable for Unity. I also thought about Apple's offerings, I know it is overpriced but I have 6% discount because am I student. What do you think about it? I still prefer Linux but MacOS has products from Adobe, Microsoft (Visual Studio) and many more. Thanks for reading this! :)

Any suggestions? I got $2000 to spend...

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 02:31 AM PDT

I am a filmmaker and I'm looking for a laptop to travel with. Nothing overly fancy but enough to do 4k video editing, without problems, on the go. I do have a PC which I use a lot when I'm at home for all the main stuff but I'm looking for something I can use to write and edit on the go. I've got one in mind but I'm just seeing if either everyone agrees with my thinking or if anyone can sway me towards something else. Thanks.

Good 144hz laptops for CS:GO that can also do percise colour/editing work?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 02:09 AM PDT

I've been looking at laptops for a while now but I still can't settle on which one to buy.

I'm mostly planning to play 144Hz CS: GO on it while also doing some video editing or colour correction work.

I'm not an expert, but CS:GO is a CPU intensive game, the same as editing. I will also need a good, and colour accurate panel for colour works.

Battery life isn't a big concern for me. However, I will appreciate the lightweight.

Please throw any ideas at me regardless of the price. (I'm not rich, I just want to see what is there to choose)

Looking for a laptop that would be good for college around $800 give or take around $100, further requests below

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:49 PM PDT

Aiming for the 16 GB of ram mark, either a 1TB hard drive or 512 SSD. Good battery life for college use, but it doesn't need to be extreme. I want it to at least run Skyrim (not necessarily on ultra), at most Kenshi (Also not necessarily ultra). 60 hz monitor is fine, Can be a little bulky, so not too worried about form factor. Backlit keyboard if possible. And if touchscreen it is a perk but I'm not too worried about that. Thanks!

Best sub $1000 windows laptop for programmers?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:32 PM PDT

I'm looking for a laptop for at most $1000 (preferably around $600-800 range) for programming and writing. My current laptop is an acer spin 5 (i5 7200u, 8gb ram) and it's keyboard is dying on me (starting to have to press keys twice for it to register).

Anyways, what laptops do you guys recommend? The most important qualities (in order) are:

    1. Great keyboard
    2. Battery life (must last at least 6 hours)
    3. Low noise (will be used in a classroom and library)
    4. Decent 13 - 17 in screen (1080p+ ips/va/oled)

Things like gaming performance, upgradabilty, weight, and the like is 2nd priority. Thanks.

Suggestions for an aspiring web developer who also wants to develop indie games?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 01:24 AM PDT

So I'm a lifelong Mac/IOS user and I currently have a Macbook late 2013 that has been through a lot with me but it's starting to break down. I'm looking into getting a Windows computer for 1. pricing is cheaper for something of equal value and I'm a poor college graduate currently traveling and 2. I realized I don't want to be limited in playing online games (as my username suggests, I, as a 22 year old, am finally coming to terms with enjoying gaming and want to indulge it).

Basically, I want a laptop that I can use for career web development, game development as a hobby (in the future) and gaming just for fun. I know different laptops/monitors have their own pros and cons but I can only afford one device at the moment and am traveling quite a bit.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:\*

(currently living in Australia, but from the US so posting equivalents)

    $2000-2500 AUD, so $1250-1750 USD

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

I want a totally new laptop.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance and battery life are definitely most important. A lightweight design is a plus, but i'm happy to sacrifice that.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Ideally as lightweight as possible for what I'm asking for hahaha. I am traveling a lot and plan to travel more.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

I've always used a 13 inch and want to keep it as compact as possible for travel but could be persuaded to go for a 15-16 inch.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Adobe creative cloud, so Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD (if i ever learn to use it). I use VS Code for web dev and probably will use Unreal for game dev. And then finally just getting into gaming, so steam games? (if you got recommendations there lmk!!)

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Of course minecraft and such but also really excited about a new indie game coming out called Swords n Magic and Stuff.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

A really good keyboard will be necessary, not looking for touch screen at all.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I put that above the form^^^

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 06:39 PM PDT

I have an interest in photography and I would like the ability to edit RAW images in the near future, as my hobby develops.

These are my requirements for my desired laptop:

Memory - 16GB RAM (I want the ability to be able to upgrade to 64GB)

Storage - SSD 128-256GB (going to keep most things in an external drive)

Processor - Intel i7 (does the generation matter?)

    Screen - 15in - 17in

    Keyboard - Backlit

Screen - At least Full HD

Is there anything out there that you all could recommend that won't break the bank? I'm having a hard time doing research. I haven't bought a laptop in over 10yrs.

    Please help!

Happy to take any advice and criticism.

Looking for a laptop as cheap as possible USA

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 06:39 PM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      As cheap as possible

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes! As long as it is in good or easily fixable state

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

    Performance, battery life, build quality

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I would love for it to be portable, but if it being 10 pounds would greatly reduce the price, then I would still take the weight

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Smaller is nice, for portability, but really just whatever is cheaper.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Minimal amounts of photo editing for school or fun, but very minimal I don't know which programs, also I do play games, Apex legends, Minecraft.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Apex Legends, Minecraft, maybe some other smaller games, at a smooth rate

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

      N/A

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Just looking for a lap top that can stream YouTube and do school work, while also being able to game with friends, the only problem is money, but all help is appreciated

A (preferable) bulky desktop replacement laptop

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 12:37 AM PDT

    1.18 KB LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

1700 USD but the lower the better

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Build quality, performance, battery life. However I value thermals quite a lot because I want a laptop that will last a while

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

These two factors are not important at all and I prefer a bulky laptop that runs cooler

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Atleast 15.6 inches but preferable 17"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

      Only gaming

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Nodded Minecraft, csgo, far cry, doom eternal, war frame, watchdogs, call of duty war zone, gta

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

      Nope

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I want a laptop that I won't have to replace for as long as possible. Battery life and speakers are not important to me at all. Also I want a 144 hertz or more screen.
