    ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 Workstation 4K IPS i7-9750H, T2000,32G RAM, 521 GB + 1TB SSD for $1600 (used)?

Purely from the spec/price/quality standpoint? Anything cheaper perhaps I can get with these specs or this is decent? (Computer is for architecture and photography)

If I install more RAM is it as simple as opening the back of the case taking out the old one and putting in the new one? Or do I have to reinstall windows?

xps 13 2020 model and huawei

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 09:58 AM PST

Although the new xps 13 looks like a great laptop i cannot help but get annoyed at the fact that people are raving about it as if it has not done before. The huawei matebook x (which recived little to none media coverage in the US) and the matebook x pro have had the same design years before. Very thin bezzles, 2k display, large key caps with nice travel, great speakers, usb c, etc.

I think the huawei laptops are amazing laptops, and although both took a lot of pointers from macbooks (which let's face it have been the gold standard for a thin and light laptop design, except for the keyboard) . I wish they would have gotten more attention and less dirt because of politics.

Cheap fix when laptop coming apart by hinge

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 06:08 AM PST

You know when you pick up your laptop the wrong way too many times and the case starts coming apart and exposing the sensitive electronic innards at the back left and right corners? Check to see if there is a Kensington security hole (used for locking your laptop to a desk and such, a small oval maybe a centimeter across). On my MSI laptop, the Kensington port goes through both parts of the plastic case. I pulled the eraser from a mechanical pencil, flattened it with some pliers, and then wedged it in there. Fixed the problem for nothing except a loss of face for having a small pink nub sticking out of the side a couple millimeters. Thought I would share.

4K, 16GB and 1TB... is the Yoga C940 the way to go?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 09:03 AM PST

I am looking for a laptop with these specs, and above all must offer a great typing experience. Doesn't really matter how big it is (all models seem to be pretty sleek these days anyway), and there is some wiggle room on budget, but the Yoga C940 seems great value, is well reviewed and has all the features I seem to want. The keyboard is solid from what I can tell, although doesn't seem to be the class leader. I don't know what else I should be considering. Dell XPS maybe? Or a Thinkpad? The Spectre X360 is well liked also it seems, but isn't without issues. The Dell and Thinkpads seem quite a bit more expensive for what they are though. Are there any laptops due for release in the next month or so that I should wait for? I know some AMD Ryzen-4000 models are imminent. I need to purchase by mid-April, so have a bit of time. I am in the UK, if that makes a difference. The Yoga 4K C940 is £1500-1600 here.

I do plan on using this for Photoshop/InDesign work, so that's also a consideration.

    Do cooling pads work?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 05:06 AM PST

Recently playing Subnautica but after a while my laptop heats up to unnatural temp where if i touch it for 5 seconds it sorta burns, i tried putting something underneath so that there is some space where the air can flow through but while that does make it small bit better it keeps being really hot, is it worth getting a cooling pad at this point?

    LF good 15" laptop

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:34 AM PST

I'm looking for a good laptop with 15 inch display. The prefered specs would be: i5/i7, 8 or better 16GB of RAM and at least 500GB of ssd. The main feature i'm looking for is the battery life, around 6 hours of general use, and if it's not too heavy this will be a plus.

I was thinking about the dell xps15 but i've read really much complains about dell. Do you have any advice about brands like Lenovo, HP and Dell?

    Thanks
