    Gaming Laptops

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:03 AM PST

Hello! I need help buying a new gaming laptop. My budget is $1500. It needs to be slim and have a decent or good graphics card. Upgradability isn't really important but it would be a cherry on top. I can go a little over budget.

Looking for gift Laptop around or under $600. USA

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 01:12 PM PST

Total Budget and country of purchase:

    -$600, USA

Do you prefer 2 in 1, good battery life, or or best specifications?

    -Mainly good battery life

How important is weight and thickness?

    -Not very

    Which OS do you require?

    -Preferably Windows

    Preferred screen size?

    -At least 15 inches

    Are you doing any CAD/editing/gaming?

    -Some gaming but no editing

If gaming, do you have certain games you wanna play? At what settings and FPS?

-Nothing too extreme, Elder Scrolls Online would probably be the biggest game it'd play. At least minimum settings, recommended would be preferred

    Any specific requirements?

-Touchscreen is wanted and preferably glass around the screen instead of screen having plastic around it (hopefully that makes sense?)

    Thank you!!

HP OMEN FAN 1 FASTER THAN FAN 2.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 09:02 AM PST

    Hello, I have the HP OMEN I7 9750H / RTX 2060.
My right fan is louder than the left one, so I read in a forum that Fan1 is for CPU and Fan2 is for GPU.
is that true? and its ok to have 2,000 difference RPM between fans? Thanks.

Laptop for about 1000 for engineering

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 12:48 PM PST

I need a reliable laptop that i can use for coding, such as python and c++, which shouldnt be a big deal for any laptop really. But i also need it to run creo and matlab at the speed 1000$ can get me. I was thinking a surface pro at first but for a good one its way too expensive. Im not looking to game on it really but if i can do some light gaming such as with emulators would be a bonus. Any suggestion are appreciated thank you

MSI gs65 8rf no longer says "battery not charging" and charges to full

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:46 AM PST

YES I am wondering why my laptop is NOT telling me that it is no longer charging. I liked the idea of it never charging to full, but now when I am gaming it no longer stops at the 92 percent that it used to. Does anyone possibly have an idea why it charges to full? I miss that peace of mind knowing it isnt fully charging. Thanks :)

High Laptop Battery Degradation after 1 year

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:50 AM PST

    Hello,

I have a Asus x505ZA ryzen 5 2500u laptop. My laptop has 42 Wh battery pack. Using the inbuilt battery management app i have mostly limited my charge capacity to 60% and rarely charging it full. Majority of the time i have used my laptop plugged in. Till 9 months the battery degradation was 6% and suddenly after few days it plummeted to 14%. Now, it is currently 20.8% . During these sudden changes i have used it normally like before.

Is it possible the Windows battery reporting is falsely reporting my battery capacity?

    Thanking in Advance.

HP Omen 15, why is this thing so loud?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 09:41 AM PST

Got a HP Omen 15, 9750h/1660ti gaming laptop during the holidays. It plays fine, and I'm truly enjoying it, but it is by far the loudest laptop I've ever had. Like I can't play games without headphones because the fans are pretty much deafening. Is there anything I can do to reduce the fan noise, or is this just par for the course when it comes to gaming laptops?

Need some input on buying a new laptop!

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:40 AM PST

I'm looking to buy a laptop sometime soon but honestly I am technologically challenged and know little to nothing. My main goal is to not spend a lot of money. I'm hardly going to use it. The only two things I want to be able to do are 1) documents/excel sheets/emails for work, and 2) be able to run old school runescape efficiently when I'm bored so I don't have to play on my phone. I currently have a small acer chromebook, which I like for work but it can't run osrs and also can not access a lot of sites. I will probably get a mouse to connect to it, so any good but cheap suggestions for those as well would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Triton 500 stupid keyboard

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:18 AM PST

I've bought and am waiting on my Triton 500 which I'm stoked to have but dear god those stupid blue keys. They just look silly and there's no way I would get that out in a lecture, I'd be too embarrassed. Unfortunately I will need to though, so has anyone got any suggestions for how to make this keyboard look less 'gamer'

Thanks in advance for anyone who gives me some helpful tips x

(Also, I know I'm overthinking this and really the solution is to just grow a pair but it's easier said than done and I know I'd feel embarrassed using that thing at uni)

How do I clean my laptop???

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 07:30 AM PST

I have been looking for some good wipes or some type of cleaning product for the keyboard and other plastic parts of my laptop. Using regular cleaning wipes leaves some pretty bad streaks so I'm wondering if there are some that work well on plastic.

Downsizing to budget laptop- Let me ask you a few things

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:45 AM PST

    • Total budget and country of purchase:

Total budget is between $400 and $550 dollars, United States, New Jersey

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

No desire for 2-1, touchscreen, good battery life, just the best screen and horsepower for the money

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

    Zero importance

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

I will use Windows 10 as my main boot, I can add whatever I want later

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Cannot be larger than 15.6 inches. Prefer 14 or even 13 inches.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

List is too long to mention, however the vast majority would run on Intel HD 620 and are from AAA from 2016 earlier to modern easy to run indie titles.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I'll figure it out regarding if any demanding game will be attempted. Most games to be used I've already confirmed work on HD 4400 iGPU. I've switched over my modern higher performance gaming completely to my PS4.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Ability to use Dual Channel DDR4, AMD 3500U or 3700U CPUs ONLY. IPS matte screen is an absolute must, TN and glossy shit screens are non starters full stop.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I know my stuff, I've been a computer technician and level 2/3 support for more than 5 years. I need your help with hands on experience with these laptops. I have not owned a personal laptop in, ever and what I've seen regarding noise and cooling are kind of hidden gotchas with many laptops.

Are the panels in the hp pavilion originally curved?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:41 AM PST

Hello, I would like to ask a question about the hp pavilion. The model name is HP Pavilion CS3011TX, but I looked around the pavilion made by the courier today, and the center of the panel is bent outwards, so I contacted the store where the original pavilion panel was curved design. It was strange that there were many similar cases in Korea. Is the panel of the pavilion really curved? Press down on the panel to make it sit down. We look forward to your answers.

Best budget (400€) laptop for normal day use?? Help :)

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:22 AM PST

Hello. So my gf is buying a laptop for a normal day use (browsing, office and some college work) not gaming. So as and IT guy i did some digging and came up with a laptop. But i wanted to make sure i got it right so here we go.

    The laptop is : HP 255 G7 Specs: Ryzen 5 2500u, 8gb ddr4, 250gb nvme ssd, vega 8 integrated, FHD resolution

It costs only 385€ (its on sale). I think its a steal. She curently has i3 4 or 5th gen cant remember exactly, 8gb ram, intel hd graphics and 500gb HDD.

So any thoughts or problems with this laptop? Or maybe there is a better laptop out there for 400€ or less? We live in Slovenia so the US cheap af prices (like pc parts for example which are like 100€+ cheaper in US than here) does not fit.

    Thanks

Advice for buying Razer Blade Stealth

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:50 AM PST

Hello everyone. After 7 years of service my Asus notebook is no more. I want to buy a Razer blade stealth. I'm deciding between the mercury white edition which color I absolutely love and the 4k with the gtx card.

I'm only gaming lightly and play darkest dungeon, helldivers or deep rock galactic. But my absolute favorite game is xcom 2 with mods and that is just not possible with the iris card of the mercury model.

Through a promo code i would pay 1258 euros for the mercury edition and 1538 for the gtx one. I can't get the full HD one since the code doesn't apply for that variant.

I also read that the new lineup is coming and im thinking about waiting since the best option for me would be the mercury white with the gtx but my promo code is only available until tomorrow.

Thanks in advance and really appreciate your opinions on that matter
