I can't link my domain name to my new website

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:05 PM PST

My domain is mrtwists.com, and the site I want to show is https://sites.google.com/view/mrtwists/

My domain is with Godaddy, my site is made with Google Sites, and I'm using cloudflare.

When I try and link my domain via my google sites, it says my domain is in use with another google service. But as far as I am aware it isn't. I've checked many places but no good.

So, does anyone know what to do next? Either tech support or to point me to a place that can help with this kind of thing?

If you need more info just let me know E

Win8.1: Safe Mode frequently breaks with empty black screen

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 03:00 AM PST

I've had this problem for years: Every now and then, Safe Mode "breaks" and booting into it gives a blank black screen: no logon screen, no desktop icons, nothing. The mouse becomes visible when I move it and the "Safe Mode" text in the corners briefly appears, but it all vanishes when I stop moving the mouse. Otherwise, the mouse buttons, keyboard, etc. are unresponsive; the only way to exit is with the power button.

Weirdly, the issue doesn't affect normal Windows, which works fine; it only affects Safe Mode. It occurs seemingly at random – sometimes after less than a week, sometimes after more than six months – so I can't pinpoint what causes it.

(To clarify, I don't actually use Safe Mode that often; I just check it every week to make sure it still works for when I do need it, since it breaks so frequently.)

Running SFC fixes nothing; each time it says no corruption was found. The only way I know to fix it is to roll back to a previous System Restore point, or to reimage the drive from a full system backup.

I regularly update Windows and all other software. All my system's drivers are up to date from the manufacturer's website. I run DISM (dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth) and SFC (sfc /scannow) weekly in an elevated command prompt, though that evidently doesn't help prevent or fix this issue.

Right now, Safe Mode is again broken, and this time all my System Restore points are inexplicably corrupted, so the only option left is to reimage the drive, which is a pain and a last resort.

At the moment my most pressing concern is finding a way to fix Safe Mode so that it works again. Afterwards, I'd like to find what causes the problem to begin with and stop it from happening in the future.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    GPU not working properly

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:43 AM PST

heya folks, I recently got a 1050 ti and it worked well for about a day, then, it started getting very low performance. For example, I could play Rainbow Six Siege at 1080p high settings and get upwards of 60 fps. Now, i have to turn all the settings to lowest possible to get about 40. I have tried DDU and even went as far as DBANing my drive. Also verified it was a genuine card using GPU-Z.

    UserBenchmarks: Game 18%, Desk 34%, Work 22%

    CPU: AMD A10-5800K APU (2012 D.Tr) - 39.1%

    GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050-Ti - 14.1%

    HDD: WD Blue 1TB (2012) - 62.7%

    RAM: Kingston HMT41GU6DFR8A 2x8GB - 33.3%

    MBD: Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-H

    PSU - 650w Thermaltake

First time HDD to SDD upgrade copy failed

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 10:51 PM PST

Hi everyone! First time upgrading a hard drive here and I have a problem.

Tried to copy the contents of an existing hard drive to a new SSD. The copy didn't work and I've stuck the new (blank) SSD into the laptop and it can't be removed :/. I've booted windows from a USB for now, would it be possible for me to try again in the reverse order? E.g copy the contents of the old hard drive which has the contents I want (which is now external to the laptop) to the new internal SSD and just boot up again?

TLDR: all guides to upgrading HDD's use current HDD to copy to a new (externally connected) SSD and then switch them into the laptop. What if I need to copy an external HDD to overwrite my internal SSD?

Sorry if the answer is obvious, it's my Dad's laptop and I'm terrified of losing someone else's data. Can give more info if needed :)
