My pc won't open when I turn it off and don't pull the plug afterwards, Is this bad? Posted: 29 Jan 2020 05:45 AM PST I live in a country that doesn't have the 3rd prong on the plug and I'm afraid that static electricity is causing all this madness. I also sometimes get shocked whenever I touch the power button and other parts of the chassis. Is this bad for the pc? If so, how can I fix it? [link] [comments] |
Help!!! Took apart computer to clean and now the screen stays black Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:39 PM PST Before I start here are my computer specs: Case: Rosewill Challenger Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68Xp-UD3 Power supply: ModxStream Pro Series 600 Watt CPU: Intel, I think i5 SSD: OCZ Agility 3 GOU: NVIDIA 660 Ti I bought this computer years ago from a coworker that he had built. My CPU has been overheating so I decided I wanted to take everything apart, clean the fans, and reapply thermal paste on the CPU. This was my first time putting thermal paste on a CPU but I thought I did ok. I cleaned off the old paste with 50% isopropyl alcohol and reapplied the new, I had a bit of trouble putting it back together but I think I did successfully. I took out all the case fans and cleaned them, I also unplugged the power button, reset button, and the hdd activity light so that I clean the front panel. I used canned air to clean it. Plugged everything back in, turned on the computer. Fans work, fans on GPU work, including the CPU, light on SSD turns on, even the CD drive works. Everything seems to be plugged in. The only thing is the monitor - the light on it turns green like it's about to turn on but then the light turns orange and the screen says no signal. The hdd light blinks red, which is my only other indicator that something maybe be wrong. The kicker is that I don't remember whether or not it's usually red! I might take this to my local computer store to take a look at but I'm wondering if things can be trouble shoot here. [link] [comments] |
Trying to OC a pentium i5 g3258 Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:52 PM PST I got it stable at 4ghz, but I can't seem to find a ratio for higher speeds, my cooling system at 4ghz running prime95 stays chill at around 55c°-60c°, is there some higher level of ring to cpu voltage I should use? Like some random math formula so I can finally get this to a 4.4 [link] [comments] |
Optane H10 16gb on Z97 not detected in BIOS, error in device manager Posted: 28 Jan 2020 08:22 PM PST I recently purchased an H10 16gb optane module to use as an SSD. I know that z97 won't support caching, I am only interested in using it as an SSD. I am running a 4690k on a z97 mobo (Asus Maximus Impact VII). It is not detected in the bios and I have verified that the m.2 slot is enabled and the gpu pcie is set to x8 mode. My main storage device is a RAID0 of two 850evos. I have installed the Intel RST software in windows 10. In device manager, the intel NVMe controller shows an error state. Here are the details: --- Driver Management concluded the process to install driver iastorac.inf_amd64_99239023b47c777a for Device Instance ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2522&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_00\4&FB03B30&0&000A with the following status: 0x0. Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2522&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_00\4&fb03b30&0&000A had a problem starting. --- Driver Name: oem46.inf Class Guid: {4d36e97b-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} Service: iaStorAC Lower Filters: Upper Filters: Problem: 0xA Problem Status: 0xC00000C2 ---- Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2522&SUBSYS_00008086&REV_00\4&fb03b30&0&000A was configured. Driver Name: oem46.inf Class Guid: {4d36e97b-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} Driver Date: 12/09/2019 Driver Version: 17.8.0.1065 Driver Provider: Intel Corporation Driver Section: iaStorAC_NVMe_inst_8.NTamd64 Driver Rank: 0x802003 Matching Device Id: PCI\VEN_8086&CC_0108 Outranked Drivers: stornvme.inf:PCI\CC_010802:00FF2006 Device Updated: true Parent Device: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0C09&SUBSYS_85341043&REV_06\3&11583659&0&0A --- I have re-installed RST, re-seated the device, verified that bios settings are correct (as far as I know) and windows states that the drivers are up to date. Disabling and re-enabling the device reproduces the error above. I have no other NVMe device to test the slot to verify that I do not have a problem with the motherboard. Any advice to get this thing working as a storage device? EDIT: Digging through the logs from the various intel installer packages, I see errors related to running in Legacy BIOS mode vs UEFI. Unfortunately, I believe I would have to re-install windows to fix this issue given that switching into UEFI mode leaves the RAID array unbootable. I'm thinking next step is to disconnect the RAID array, switch to UEFI mode and boot into a linux live usb and see if the device shows up. I think this is an easy test to see if part of the problem is UEFI/Legacy BIOS shenanigans. [link] [comments] |
