Any thoughts about Lenovo's S145 ideapad?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 12:35 PM PST

I am thinking about getting one, it looks pretty basic and there is variety of specs available.

I've heard that the main issue is the battery life, anyone here has one and can tell me he's impression?

Is the battery really bothering? or it is workable..

    Thanks!

Is there a way to use a mouse for a laptop on the bed?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 02:14 PM PST

I'm looking into buying a laptop for the sole purpose of being comfortable with my work while laying down on my bed despite already having a PC. Does anyone know of a way to use a mouse with it while laying on the bed without attaching some crazy movable shelf with a hinge? Something convenient and quick to install that can support the weight of my arm, mouse, the mouse pad and is not too heavy that it will bend the mattress. Thanks!

why no powerful convertible 2 in one's ?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 02:11 PM PST

I love my dell xps 15, but I'm always fighting it's tendency to overheat.

My question is, why aren't the flip around hinges more common? It would be really nice to flip my screen around into tent mode to keep the powerful components up off the desk to improve airflow, decrease the overall footprint on the desk and leave more room for my mechanical keyboard and mouse.

    ELuktronics N970TF Laptop

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:56 PM PST

I have wanted to try a barebones laptop for a custom built. This laptop, at https://www.eluktronics.com/N970TF/, has an RTX 2070 and a desktop class processor. Is this processor going to be socketed, because I'd like to install an i9-9900K, KF, or KS. I know how to install RAM and storage, so I'm gonna save money by doing this. What CPUs can I install?

Can I install Window Games on microSD?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:30 PM PST

    Hi,

I have the Acer Spin 1. It has a fixed 64GB emmc SSD. Windows 10 takes up about 25GB.

I have Age of Empires II Definitive Edition installed, after that only 12GB hard drive space left.

I was wondering if I can add like a 64GB microSD and install AoE on the microSD to free up main hard drive space or the microSD is much too slow.

    Problems with dell laptop

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:22 PM PST

Hi everyone, I have a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 that is a few years old, and it is very slow in almost everything it does despite it not being that old and having pretty mediocre specs. It takes several minutes to start up, and makes a lot of noise and heat doing so. It also takes a very long time to open apps, and most of the time they end up not responding, forcing me to close them via task manager and try again. The battery also only lasts about an hour of doing normal tasks without being plugged in. And lastly, when put in sleep mode and then opened up a little later, it is frozen and will not boot, forcing me to hard restart it. What could be causing these problems, and what can I do to fix them?

How do I clean this keyboard under thr switches? (I ate a lot while gaming back in the days)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 03:36 AM PST

Time for a new laptop (at least: 15.6" 8gb, 512ssd, backlit keyboard, touchscreen). My 7yo one is an i3 but it's only used for work: Word, Email, videos... I'm seeing ones like this in the $400-500 range, need it asap. I'd like great service like Costco or amazon. Any tips on brand or other issues?

[HELP] Trying to decide between 2 CPUS

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:41 AM PST

    1065G7 vs 10510U

I found a laptop I'll enjoy and okay with the price

    $800ish

    Its the dell I5993

    https://www.costco.com/dell-inspiron-15-5000-series-touchscreen-laptop---10th-gen-intel-core-i7---1080p.product.100513789.html

But the CPU wasn't the 1065G7 it had the 10510U and a model number of I5994

Is there going to be a noticeable difference?

I see people saying in some places one is better and in others that the other is better for what I want...

    Any advice or tips?

Also if you know of a similar laptop ( upgradable RAM, good CPU and 2 or 3 SSD/NVME M.2 slots) that would be amazing as well!

Best way to delete 29gbs of "Other" Storage on Mac?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:40 AM PST

I have nearly 30gbs of "Other" storage on Mac, but there isnt really much on this computer. some word documents and other downloads that equal about 10gbs. Other than that, there is literally nothing else on the computer. Why is there 30gbs of "Other" storage? I am trying to install windows with Bootcamp and I don't have nearly enough space.

XPS 15 Help neeeded (gaming performance drop and issues)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:33 AM PST

Hey all, I've had my XPS 15 (i7-8750H/GTX 1050 Ti/512 SSD) for about 10 months now, bought it last year March and have been loving it ever since. I use it about 70% of the time mostly for my work in uni, web browsing, youtube/netflix etc.

Every so often I do game on it and the games I've played on it are GTA V, FH4 and League. At the start I was more than happy with it but recently I've encountered more than one issue and would appreciate it if any of you could help me. Personally I'm alright with computers but definitely lack the knowledge to properly solve these issues I'm having.

    1. League used to run with 120fps constantly on max graphics but recently when I play (identical settings) it seems to drop frames quite a lot, so much so that my fps fluctuates from 40-120fps, however if I cap my fps at 80 it will remain stable. Just wondering why did the overall performance drop. Is this common/normal over time?
    2. With GTA V lies the biggest issue, I've checked the game requirements online and is safe to say that the XPS 15 is more than enough to enjoy it normally, I usually play with mid-ish graphic settings and get a constant 50-60fps. Now that exams are over, I'm back to gaming a little more than usual but although the game boots up well and starts well, about 2 mins into it the fps will drop to 13/15 and occasionally jump, similar to League it'll fluctuate badly between 10-55fps. I've searched for whatever solution I could with battery settings or power management settings and even lowering the graphics settings further but nothing seems to work.
    3. Lastly with Forza Horizon 4, similar issues to GTA V, used to run smoothly at default (benchmarked) settings but nowadays seem to fluctuate from 15-45fps, never stable. Sometimes the weirdest issue is that, the game will run smoothly at 30fps on battery power but the moment I start charging it the issue resumes and I get worse performance.

I just find these problems weird and honestly causing quite a massive headache as I've never encountered it in the first 3/4 months of ownership. Perhaps are there ways to test or find out what's actually happening (faulty part, throttling etc?)

Sorry for the long read, these issues have been plaguing me for the past few weeks and now that I've had it for almost a year I'm just curious whether this is a common issue or if it's worth a call to Dell's support, perhaps I have a faulty part somewhere and don't even know it.

Really appreciate all of your help, I'll post this in more forums in hopes of getting more opinions and help. Thank you.

    Excessive RAM usage?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 10:14 AM PST

I have a Dell G3 laptop laptop with 8GB of RAM and at idle, with no apps other than the task manager running, the computer is using 4GB. Is this a normal amount of RAM to use at idle, and 4GB looks like a lot because I only have 8GB? Or is there something up that needs to be fixed?

Looking for help to choose a new laptop

    Posted: 29 Jan 2020 09:33 AM PST

I need some help to choose wich laptop I should buy. Im from a small country where laptops are expensive and there are some dell deals for this week.

    Dell G3 700$

    i5-9300h

    GTX 1050 3GB

    8GB RAM

    256GB SSD

    Dell G3 1000$

    i7-9750h

    GTX 1660 6GB Max-Q

    8GB RAM

    256GB SSD + 1TB HDD

    Dell G5 1080$

    i7-9750h

    GTX 1650

    16GB RAM

    256GB SSD + 1TB HDD

I will use it casually for gaming (League of Legends, Dota, DB Fighterz, Cuphead, and some middle requeriments indie games) and to run virtual machines for testing (usually I only run 1, rarely 2 at the same time)

I dont know if the G3 with the i5 is enough or I should look for a more expensive model. Im not short on cash but it would be nice if i could save some money.

    Thanks =)
