Windows 10 All Applications "Installation has failed" Posted: 13 Dec 2019 04:07 PM PST So, yesterday I tried download Deezer and got this message on the setup, "Deezer setup.exe Installation has failed." Couldn't find any solution about it and now when I try to download any installed they all end in "Installation has failed." When I click the log it opens "SquirrelSetup." I have never heard of it before. I tried deleting the local file in %appdata% to remake it, but it still came up with the same error. Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Dec 2019 06:02 AM PST I noticed that after I updated to v1909 a few days ago. My Idle RAM usage increased. From 2.4GB (v1903) to 3.3GB (v1909) I use blender and edit Videos from time to time and task manager often shows an usage of above 90% in those cases. While I do have 16GB of ram I'd still like to lower my Idle RAM usage to have as much unused RAM as possible. Since the update isn't out for long yet I would just like to know if others experienced the same behaviour, since that may mean that it will stay this way. Edit: Thank you guys for the answers. I now know where the error in my thinking was: I thought that the memory that windows uses while Ideling is basically gone and that every other program has to fight over whats left. [like assigning a fix amount of RAM as VRAM to an APU] That's why I thought lowering the idle RAM usage is good [link] [comments]

Is there a way to change this Windows behavior? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 06:00 PM PST Previously, when I went to shutdown my PC, if a program like Word or Excel gave a "Do you want to save your changes?" popup, Windows gave like 15 seconds for me to click Yes/No before Windows popped up it's own box saying the app is stopping the shutdown. But if I answered Yes/No before the timeout, the PC would still shutdown. Now, when I choose to shutdown, if I get the "Do you want to save your changes?" box, Windows immediately pops up the "This program is preventing Windows from restarting" screen, not even giving me a chance to click Yes/No. I then have to click Cancel, resolve the dialog boxes manually, then choose to shutdown again. I don't think this is new, not really sure when it changed, maybe it's been a few years? Can I change it back? [link] [comments]
Windows 7 Resource Monitor Access Denied Posted: 13 Dec 2019 05:54 PM PST Pretty much title, I can't let ''Resource Monitor'' monitor as it says ''Access Denied'' I am running it in Admin mode so I don't know what is happening here, anyone got any suggestions on a fix [link] [comments]
Installing Windows 7 on a VM tomorrow, looking for pointers ... Posted: 13 Dec 2019 03:35 PM PST So, I have to install Windows because I will be working with some software that only runs on that OS. I use Ubuntu on a daily basis. I went to a shop and got a Windows 7 license. I understand it can be upgraded to Win 10 for free (but that I'd maybe better hurry). I'm kind of low on space (managed to free up 16Gb) so if someone has an idea there I'm all ears. My battle plan:
Should I approach matters differently, you think? [link] [comments]
How to set local computer password instead of Microsoft Account. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:16 PM PST Maybe I'm just dumb, but I want to change the password required to get into my computer without changing my Microsoft Account. I am sending in my computer for service and don't want to give the service guys my Microsoft Account password for obvious reasons. Is there a way to just flat out remove it, or just remove my Microsoft account from my computer? Or a way to change my local computer password without having to change my Microsoft account password at the same time? [link] [comments]
Control Panel no longer shows realtime results as you type in search box. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 11:07 AM PST As the title suggests, after the update 1909, the control panel search results are not populated in realtime as before. Not a huge bug but a bit annoying/inconvenient. I searched around but couldn't find a mention of this so I don't know if its just my system or a common issue. [link] [comments]
Recent Windows update deleted all of my files. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 10:02 AM PST My laptop froze last night and I had to perform a hard reboot. Turns out it was a new update. After the update I still have all of my programs installed but all of my text files are gone. There is no Windows.old folder. Is there any way to get them back? [link] [comments]
Is there a way to reduce power consumption when downloading games while AFK? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:36 AM PST I wanted to know if there's a way of using the power configuration settings to possibly lower the power consumption of my PC while downloading Steam games? I have a slow broadband connection and I sometimes leave it running while I'm at work, but it does drive up my electric bill a bit. Is there a way to configure Windows to reduce energy while I'm away? I was thinking of maybe having it shut off one of my hard drives (I've everything downloading to another drive, leaving one hard drive unused), limiting the CPU power to 10% or so, among other settings. Is there any better way of doing this or is that the best I'll get? [link] [comments]

The best quality of life improvement I've had in Windows was to disable automatic restarts Posted: 13 Dec 2019 04:28 AM PST When I see an update I can do it in my own time, I don't have to close a single window until my work is done, I don't have to avoid using notepad because Windows will restart without saving any notes, I don't need to hear the PC waking up to update while I sleep. Imagine being so out of touch that you think everyone saves and closes their work after 5 PM every day, this operating system must have been made by wageslaves. It feels so good man, it feels like pure freedom. Less secure OS? I have the freedom to take that risk now. [link] [comments]
Big update overnight, no longer see second monitor Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:56 AM PST Last night, my HP desktop went through a big update while I was out. Today, I can no longer see my second monitor. I've tried two monitors, I've tried VGA and HDMI, but whenever I go into Display Settings and try to detect all monitors, it doesn't find the second monitor. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? Thanks! [link] [comments]
My sister likes to play Minecraft Posted: 13 Dec 2019 05:53 PM PST My sister likes to play Minecraft so I changed the Minecraft icon on the desktop to run a .bat script that shuts down the computer whenever she tried to open the game! [link] [comments]
Inaccessible folder after failed game installation Posted: 13 Dec 2019 02:50 AM PST Yesterday I tried installing Gears 5 via the Xbox App. Today I noticed that the game is listed in my installed games bar, but still wants to be installed on the details page. I assume this happened because I turned my Pc off at some point during the download process and the app just can't handle that? Starting the game via the sidebar simply closes the app window, but nothing boots up. Clicking install will simply make the button flicker for a second but do nothing and uninstalling the game also does simply nothing. In my WindowsApp folder, there now is this highlighted folder, which is presumably Gears 5 (https://i.imgur.com/M5Xbg09.png), however the folder claims to be empty and is also completely inaccessible (https://i.imgur.com/14rOkni.png). I cannot open it, I cannot delete it. I played around with the permissions of the folder a bunch, but that changes nothing. What do? If this is the wrong sub for a question like this, I'd appreciate if I could be pointed to the right one. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Dec 2019 03:20 AM PST I'm using a Gefore GTX 1660 Super with its DP connected to a monitor that is supposedly DP 1.2. Under my system/display, i am able to enable Play HDR games and apps at 4k. I'm also getting bit depth of 10-bit. When using dxdiag, it also says HDR: Supported. However, I read online that DP 1.2 does not do HDR10. Am I just reading a bug on my system? [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Dec 2019 01:32 AM PST Hi all, I have a quick question about data duplication, and just wondered if anyone can shed any light on something I have come across... I have inherited a file server from a smaller company and the server has data duplication installed and enabled on each volume along with hard quotas? My boss tells me that you cannot have both on one volume because it can cause problems and data corruption. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/data-deduplication/interop The document above only describes the root folder, what is everyone's opinion on this?
