Posted: 13 Dec 2019 06:43 PM PST So, Xiaomi has just announced a new laptop and as expected it is a very good deal, especially with the Redmi branding instead of Xiaomi itself. The mid tier one seems like the best deal with a 11th Gen i5 processor, an MX250 GPU, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD, all for $640. For reference, I've been eying a Lenovo one for $600 with just a 1TB HDD and just a Ryzen 5 iGPU Has anyone bought a Xiaomi laptop? I'm sure the community would love to know your thoughts. I've been an avid custom ROM user for years, and now I dont even look back to it Posted: 13 Dec 2019 02:25 PM PST My usage of MIUI has been on and off, since MIUI 7-10 there's been a few moments where I used it and then I'm off flashing custom rom again. After a while, I'm sick of reinstalling apps and configuring my device just the way I like it every time I have to flash the ROM, so one day I decided to just fuck it and clean flash everything, go back to stock, lock the bootloader again, going back to full-on native MIUI experience. I locked the bootloader just so that when I decide to go back to custom ROM, I know that I'd have to go through a few extra steps to do it, and as of this moment, I'm still on stock. My point is, I don't think I'm missing any more feature by going with custom ROM/TWRP/root, all of the functionality that I need is actually doable without root now. Youtube Vanced was one of the reason for me to root my device, but now that we can install youtube vanced without root, I dont think I need it anymore. (big shoutout to yt vanced team, you are awesome!) While there are some pain points that I noticed:
I'm still liking the overall feel and look of MIUI rather than stock android, and looking through the progression they made on MIUI, they are going in the right direction. So for me this adds a great benefit,
TL;DR: Xiaomi and MIUI is really great now! [link] [comments]
Just got a Redmibook 14 - Drivers don't work Posted: 13 Dec 2019 06:26 PM PST First of all, sorry for the likely bad formatting, i'm new to reddit. I just recieved my Redmibook 14 which I bought of AliExpress. It had a chinese (single language) Version of Windows 10 on it. "No problem" I thought, as I have a licence for Windows 10. I was wrong. Went ahead and reinstalled an english version of Windows 10 (Education) and downloaded the drivers pack on the official xiaomi website. Some of those worked fine, but most importantly, the graphics drivers (Nvidia), Wifi drivers (Intel) and Chipset drivers all do not work. I am sitting there, transfering driver setups via USB from my main PC, as the RedmiBook can't even connect to the wifi, downloading different drivers from the Nvidia website, from Intel directly etc. Nothing works. For the Wifi, Windows Troubleshooting says there is a problem with the driver (you don't say). The driver setup from the intel webpage needs a more recent Windows version. (well I can't really update it, without wifi, can I?) As for the graphics driver, the NVIDIA Installer gives an error "is not compatible with this version of windows" and the Intel driver says "This platform is not supperted". This happens for both the drivers from the respective websites, and for the ones provided by xiaomi. All this kinda sounds like the problem aren't the drivers, but my Windows version. However I did two reinstallations, one with the newest up to date Windows 10 Home edition from the Microsoft website, and one with this Education version, which I am using on my main PC without any problems whatsoever. Does anyone else have this problem, or know of a way to fix it? I'm frankly just really puzzled. Didn't expect this to be a problem at all. Language on Amazfit BIP Lite is still stuck in Chinese, even after the update. Posted: 13 Dec 2019 08:39 PM PST I read that new update for the MiFit app has added the English language but my watch is still stuck in Chinese even after the update. My app version is 4.0.13 and the firmware version is V1.1.6.34 . [link] [comments]

Weird snapchat issue with Redmi 8, anyone else experiencing this? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:47 PM PST I just got my first Xiaomi phone, a Redmi 8, and I'm loving it so far, with the exception of one issue I can't seem to solve. I can't send videos on snapchat at all. If I try to send one, it's just stuck sending forever. I can't even review a video after recording it. I can, however, save the video to my memories and camera roll. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas what I can do to fix it? I use snapchat more than anything else on my phone, I'd be forever grateful if anyone can help me find a solution. Thanks! [link] [comments]
I dropped my Redmi Note 8 Pro in water but it seems to be fine Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:43 PM PST Let's just say the pocket of my sweatshirt was looser than I expected and my phone fell in the toilet (the water was still clean, thank God). Because the phone is so big it got stuck and only splashed in the water for a second or two before I reached for it. I immediately removed the cover and cleaned it, as well as shook as much of the water out as I could. The phone never turned off or anything, and everything seems to be working normally. I know the Redmi Note 8 Pro is water resistant to a certain extent, I just want to make sure... What do you guys think? Will it be ok? [link] [comments]
Connecting your PS4 controller to your Xiaomi redmi note 7? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 03:15 PM PST Hey everyone, As stated in the title does anyone know how this works and how I can do this? I'm aware of being able to do this through bluetooth but I can't seem to find any tutorials on how to set this up. I primarily want to use it to play cod mobile :) [link] [comments]

Widgets not responding to touch? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 11:02 AM PST I recently had widgets stop responding on my Redmi Note 7. I could still scroll on my agenda widget, but tapping did nothing. Someone else had the same problem a while back but never resolved it. The problem turned out to be one specific permission. I don't know how it was turned off for all apps, unless it was the last OS update. I'm posting the solution in case anyone else runs into this problem and searches this sub for the fix.
Return to your home screen and enjoy your widget's features again. [link] [comments]
Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro First Impressions Posted: 13 Dec 2019 09:47 AM PST Received it on Wednesday. So far so good. Charged it to 100% and it is on 54% now on Friday (moderate use). The processor speed is insane compared to my old galaxy j5. If you've questions I will be happy to help. [link] [comments]

Mi 8 vs Mi 9 Lite - Gaming and Netflix Posted: 13 Dec 2019 12:21 PM PST Trying to keep to a sub-$250 budget, which would you recommend between the Mi 8 and the Mi 9 Lite for someone who enjoys gaming (PUBG, COD, etc.), watching Netflix, and generally finds speed important? I know a lot of people on this sub have recommended the Mi 9 Lite over the Mi 8, but given the faster chip in the Mi 8, wonder if this use case changes peoples' opinions. Both are around the same price right now. [link] [comments]

Redmi Note 6 Pro & erratic alarm clock... Posted: 13 Dec 2019 01:04 PM PST Anyone have problems with using the included clock / alarm feature? Periodically my morning alarms just don't go off. I've slept through these alarms before, and when I do that, I get a notification that says I missed an alarm. But on the days they don't go off, it's just ... nothing. Resetting them gets them working again. This cycle happens every 7 days or so. I've set these alarms to repeat during specific days of the week ... but it doesn't make sense that they would only go for a week and then be inactive. Anyone else notice this, and if so, have a workaround? Or even another app they like for morning alarm clock? Thx, -X [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Dec 2019 12:54 PM PST Just received my Yi Dome X camera. I can't connect it to my network. It is a regular wifi network (2.4GHz), name with English letters. It says "connected to wifi", then in the app, on the page where the camera is shown with fake binary data, it times out. I tried resetting it multiple times but that wouldn't work. I also tried the troubleshooting which suggested to update the firmware, but I cannot get it to go into access point mode by holding the reset button, it only resets, resets, resets, indefinitely. Any pointers? [link] [comments]
