Switched old PC on and having issues

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 01:09 AM PST

Firstly, it's extremely loud. I've read that I need to get rid of all the dust, I did as much as I could and that didn't help.

Secondly, it was a looooong time ago but I installed a graphics card in it (GeForce 7600) When I try to hook up to the monitor with HDMI or VGA it doesn't work? What could this be?

Upgraded from windows 7 to 10 - Numerous Issues, Need Help

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 11:07 PM PST

I upgraded core components of my pc yesterday, one of which was my motherboard. Little did I know, this motherboard did not support Windows 7. After installing all of my new hardware, my usb ports did not work and I was stumped, forced to trouble shoot the problem for a few hours.

After discovering the motherboard only supported windows 10, I was forced to put windows 10 on a flash drive and upgrade from windows 7 to 10. After this update, I seem to have lost my photos, music, booksmarks, etc. Keep in mind I installed an SSD and put windows 10 on the SSD when I previously (and still have?) windows 7 on my old main HDD.

What I am needing help with is recovering my photos, music, google chrome bookmarks, etc. I have done research on fixing these issues but nothing seems to be working. I have gone through my old hard drive looking under users but my old account from windows 7 isn't there, it just says "Public" with nothing inside.

Another issue I am facing is windows won't accept my windows 10 key I bought. I started by installing the free version and inputted my key today, but after "upgrading" with a computer restart and the typical motions, nothing changes and it still asks for a key saying windows isn't activated.

Any help would be very much appreciated as I feel very stuck. Thank you.

TLDR: Upgraded from windows 7 to 10 after installing new mobo. Need help recovering music, photos, google chrome bookmarks and fix windows 10 registration key issues.

Internet from modem works fine, but router is not getting any connection.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:25 PM PST

I have my laptop connected directly to the modem and am using the internet just fine. The netgear router I currently have is also connected to the modem but doesn't seem to be getting any internet connection. I also have a desktop connected to the router. So far I've tried to soft reset the router but nothing changed. I'm not too familiar with how networking works but the IPv4 for the laptop(73.226.26.xxx) is in a different format than the desktop's(192.168.1.x).

I am currently unable to access the 192.168.1.1 from my desktop because I soft reseted the netgear router and it requires a internet connection to do it's set up.

I've been trying all day calling support lines to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

Edit: I found out I can access 192.168.1.1 through my laptop.

Internet has been weird today and seems to be getting worse.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:36 PM PST

I have a problem. It's the same for both desktops and laptop. Since sometime in the last 24 hours video and images have started to load slowly or not at all. I first noticed with Twitter. Avatars and video appear grey or blank for 2-10 seconds and then finally pop in. I then noticed that most sites that have streaming video or multiple thumbnails such as Youtube, Twitch, and Dlive load very slowly or not at all. When trying to download from any of those sites my speeds will be extremely slow or fail outright, but then sometimes they will also finish nearly instant. I have tried multiple speedtests and get 900+Down and 250+Up every time like usual. I am connected directly to my modem. I get the download speeds from things like Netflix, Steam, and Blizzard like normal. It seems to be only when browsing that it does this.

Edit- Most sites have become slow now. One second everything is at a stand still or fails to load and then the next everything is super fast. I have also noticed a few "Secure Connection Failed" when trying to load a page.

Things I have tried so far with zero change

    Flushed dns.

    Changed to a static dns.

    Used Google's dns for IPv4.

    Used opendns for IPv6.

    Turned off Firewall and Antivirus.

Reset modem and changed ethernet cord(It is a Cat5e) .

Tried fresh installs of both Chrome and Firefox and both in safe mode.

    Reset TCP/IP.
