Looking for a gaming/ school laptop that can be hooked up to a separate monitor. Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:08 PM PST In need of a laptop that can be used for school stuff but also some gaming.
1200-1500 US $. Preferably something lower than the budget, but its not an issue.
Needs to have a good batter
This will be used a lot for school so i cant have anything that will feel like i'm carrying a brick.
Windows
15-ish inches
Some Gaming - Minecraft - Sims 4 - GTA v Also video editing and digital design.
Key board isn't important. Needs to be reliable, cant have something that will cause issues. Non-Touch screen. 16GB of RAM. SSD preferable
Dont really want it to give off an obvious "gaming laptop" look to it , looking for something that looks sleek. Also preferably something that doesn't heat up fast or has a loud fan, its not a must but preferable. I plan to use this for school so storage is a must. For gaming, I plan to use certain mods/ shaders for the games. I want to also be able to hook this laptop up to a monitor so that i can use it as a separate pc sorta thing soo yeah [link] [comments] |
Looking for a gaming/general use laptop for $1000CAD during boxing week Posted: 29 Dec 2019 03:07 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1000CAD willing to go up a small bit but if i see something good thats $700 for some reason ill Seriously consider it. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. best specs for the money. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important if it can fit in my backpack thats fine. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10 Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 since its what im used to. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Im buying with gaming in mind. If i can dabble in other things thats a bonus. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? GTAV and APEX for sure not sure what else id play that could be intensive. Doesn't need to be high settings i just want to be able to get 60fps. If it takes lowering res to 720 to do it then so be it. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard and build quality since i want this laptop to last years. Want a 1tb hdd and a good display. Ill always have a headset and a mouse plugged in so 3 usb ports would be nice for the times i plug something else in. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Ive never had a pc/laptop that can do much of anything my entire life ive basically used either a $400 tower from 2009 ( still the pc in this house ) or a now 4 year $300 laptop that cant even watch 720p youtube videos most of the time let alone run literally any kind of program. Anyway im gonna post a few links of things that intrigue me in my searching thus far let me know your guy's thoughts. Do note though that i do not know very much at all. This nitro5 im not considering tbh. Im posting it because theres a nitro5 i could drive 5 minutes away from and get for the same price ( till dec31 ) and the only differences are its a 9th gen i5 instead of 7th gen and it has 3gb vram instead of 4gb like the one below This one is a fantastic deal and its specs destroy everything else in this price range that im seeing. Its just im pretty sure its likely overkill for what i'd likely be doing and im hesitating to drop $1100 Great specs for the price though im REALLY skeptical on the 144hz claim. Ive seen alot of asus tuf laptops claim to be 120hz only to see reviews saying asus confirmed its not. So this one im wondering weather its too good to be true https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX79653 The only one thats a ssd only in these links but its only $800 currently and has a gtx 1650 https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX79653 This one is meh. Its on sale i guess but these specs are typical for what i see from most around this price. I guess the notable thing here is its a sshd apparently. Dont know how different it is from a normal hdd [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2019 03:03 AM PST Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? - needs to be reliable and portable. Pick or include any that apply. - touch screen would be nice, but not essential. Best spec possible, ideally 16gb. How important is weight and thinness to you? - needs to be portable and will fit into a backpack, 15in size preferably. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. - Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. - 15in Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. - Solidedge, Matlab. A bit of light gaming would be nice, If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? - no real genre of preference, varied. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? - i7, 16gb, ssd Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. - This will be used mainly for work during an engineering degree. Originally I was looking more towards an ultra book for their portability, but seems those within my procerange have something missing, usually a screen that's too small, or graphics that are not up to CAD work. So it has been suggested that I should consider a gaming laptop as they will come with dedicated graphics and generally a better spec for the money. Ordinarily, I'm not a fan of the look of gaming laptops, so more descrete the better. [link] [comments] |
Would you recommend this buy? (RTX 2070 Max Q, deal seemingly too good to be true) Posted: 29 Dec 2019 03:01 AM PST I found a very good looking deal here ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS M Price: 1601$ (cut from 2199$?!) CPU: i7-9750H GPU: RTX 2070 Max-Q Screen: 240Hz Is it just me or is a discount of 600$ pretty good. 1600 for this seems like a no brainer to me, or am I wrong? I know that people typically recommend rtx 2060 due to bang for buck, but given this discount, does it matter? [link] [comments] |

Portable laptop for coding IDE < 1200€ SWE Posted: 29 Dec 2019 02:51 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: 1200€, Sweden. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2 in 1 is not important, good battery 10h plus. Then I can almost guarantee 8h. How important is weight and thinness to you? Its important. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Linux. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Would prefer 13-14" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Visual studio, video watching, Spotify If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Oxygen not include, but it does not matter. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Build quality would be nice, I don't really use a desk at the same place as I'm moving around. Minimum of 8gb memory. Would be good if it last around 3-4 years without breaking. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. At the moment I have a Zenbook from 2016. It can't really handle multiple programs at the same time and the touchpad is having a lot of issues with jumping around, so I think it's time to change it. I have looked at the XPS 13 9380 for 1000€ and I have looked at the razer blade stealth 13. Just to give you an idea of what picked my interest. I have seen a lot of recommendation for the x1 gen6 but that is to steep pricing here. [link] [comments] |
Looking for high performance laptop for VR game development <US$1480 Posted: 29 Dec 2019 12:46 AM PST
Other Notes: For my requirements, I am thinking of getting a laptop with at least 16GB of RAM, and NVIDIA Graphics Card (at least 4GB), SSD of at least 512GB I usually work in a very quiet environment and I am very sensitive to cooling fan noises so if the laptop can remain quiet while I am working that will seriously lower my blood pressure. I have shortlisted a few laptops but because this would be my first high performance laptop and I am on a budget, I'm seeking help from Reddit! Hope to get comments soon! :) [link] [comments] |

In US with a $500 budget, but wiggle room if it's worthwhile Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:34 AM PST -Thanks for the help in advance, and apologies for my ignorance and formatting! -So, I'm a cheapskate, and I've bought used laptops in the past that never seem to last long. It's driving my frugal self mad. I'd like to find a laptop that will last for years to come, and maybe have a nice warranty. -I will use it to browse the internet, watch things while traveling, create some documents, and run software for my massage business, possibly being the point of sale for that. -I like the idea of a 2in1 tablet computer hybrid thing. -I want to be able to literally use it on my lap. -Size is not important -Specs and stuff, I don't know anything about [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Dec 2019 11:01 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $2,000-$3,000 CAD -Canada, B.C. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Battery life does not matter. Prefer a dedicated gaming laptop, not a 2 in 1. How important is weight and thinness to you? Thickness or thin, does not matter Which OS do you require? Preferably Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Aiming for 17" 144hz, 9ms and under Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No editing, simply gaming. Games to run from most important to least. -Black Desert Online -Apex -Total War: Warhammer 2 -Cyberpunk? If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Comfortably above 60+ in what I mentioned. High/ultra. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable, proven laptop that won't throttle or have severe heat issues. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. -Backstory, I work out in camp for half of the month. We have full utilities including high speed internet, I find myself sitting and playing on my tablet or having too much free time on my hands before bed (I generally get about 2.5-3hrs before I hit the hay to do whatever). Weight does not matter, not does batter life (my room at camp has full connections and a computer desk). So I'd like to find something to pickup within the next week or so (Canadian). Theirs honestly so many threads but it also includes people searching for an editing/excel/school etc... and with how many laptops are out currently I'm confused. I looked at a dell laptop but was told to expect 30 days before it's shipped which is abit too long for me. Please sone suggestions would be nice. [link] [comments] |
Refurbished XPS 15 or Surface Laptop 3 Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:17 PM PST Hi, looking for a new laptop as my current macbook pro is just about the least functional functioning device out there (1/3 screen blacked out + lines across screen horizontally, broken trackpad, near dead battery) and i just don't think repairing it is a viable option. Looking to transition to a windows laptop with a budget ~2000$AUD and have settled on two choices with the help of a techsavvy mate (who self-admittedly is very biased towards microsoft products). A refurbished XPS 15 from dell or Surface Laptop 3. I'm a science student (chem major so nothing too computer intensive) and light gamer (just csgo but would like 60fps) and the type of person to have 50 tabs running at once The details on each are (im just gonna dump everything that looks relevant because im not that literate when it comes to specs): XPS 15-9575 2in1 quad core 8th gen i7-8705G 4.1GHz, 16GB memory, 15.6inch 4k Ultra HD touchscreen, 512GB SSDHD, AMD Radeon RX Vega M Graphics with 4GB HBM2 Graphics Memory, Surface Laptop 3 15" quad core 10th gen i7-1065G7, 16GB memory, 256 SSD, AMD Ryzen 5 3580U From my understanding the big bonuses for the Dell are 4k screen, more powerful (though is it just overkill) and the dedicated graphics card helps massively for gaming whilst the surface has better form factor, brand new (though refurbished by dell seems to be a nonissue for this?), lighter and a better battery. I'd also like the opportunity to connect it to a monitor in the future What do people recommend? Decision effectively has to be made within 24 hours (claim on the refurbished xps has to be acted upon) and I'm honestly torn (my 2 techsavvy mates both split) [link] [comments] |
Acer Aspire 3 vs Acer Aspire 5 Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:55 PM PST
Other Comments: The 2 models I'm looking at seem to a lot of the same specs, yet they're both priced at $550.79 for boxing week (same original price too). From what I've read, Aspire 5 is a higher quality model than Aspire 3 so wouldn't the better deal be the Aspire 5 then? I don't know that much about computers so any insight/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop used mostly for Excel and other Office programs ($500-$600, US) Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:05 PM PST Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good build quality would be a basic need for handling (for a decent amount of time) moderate daily use. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This laptop will be used mostly for Excel and Office in general. Good performance for this will be appreciated. Total budget and country of purchase: $500-600, US. Could stretch a little bit if worth it. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Don't really care for 2 in 1, touchscreen, etc. Just best specs for the money. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 plus inches. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. What specs should I look for in a new laptop? Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:18 PM PST Hi there, I'm looking to spend between $350-500 on a new laptop, I currently have an Asus i3 4GB Ram ( I believe) I have had it for about 4-5 years now and it starting to slow down a bit. Not really sure what to look for. I would like something relatively fast, on the smaller side and not too heavy, a nice screen and backlit keyboard would be ideal. I mostly use for browsing, streaming and some excel work. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated links to specific laptops too please, thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Looking for Surface Pro-style laptops Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:11 PM PST Hi, Are there 2-in-1 laptops similar to the Microsoft Surface Pro 7? I am really fond about the detachable keyboard (which also acts as cover) - are there other laptops that offer that? It's also important that I can install linux on it - I don't want to deal with iOS or Android OS. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

High end content creation laptop Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:49 PM PST I'm a game developer looking for a mobile workstation. Main priorities are strong CPU, GPU, bright screen, solid aluminum build (thin if possible), and decent battery life. I got a MacBook Pro 16 and it's been great, except for the really abysmal response times on the display. This results in extremely bad ghosting/smearing when scrolling text, or in high contrast scenes. It's a bummer, because otherwise it's perfect. I also tried a Razer Blade 15 Studio, as I really like the white look, and wanted to try the OLED screen. Well, I got it and it's beautiful. But there's really really awful vertical banding artifacts on the screen when you look at dark grey content. Can't ignore it, sadly. I really don't like the Gigabyte Aeros with their numpads and wonky trackpad. Dell XPS 15 has a weak GPU and weird carbon fiber finish instead of just aluminum. Anyone have any suggestions on other laptops I could try that I've missed? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Looking to buy a laptop for my father Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:19 PM PST Hey everyone, my father is a law school professor and his 10 year old Toshiba just died on him. He's partial to HP and Toshiba brands only, and wants a durable long lasting laptop with a slightly smaller screen (13-14 inches). Specs don't need to be high, but he does need it to open basic applications like web browser and word/presentation programs quickly. Preferably 8gb ram, snappy processor, an SSD drive, and a CD drive if possible but not necessary. Integrated graphics is fine, he doesn't care about running intensive editing software or games. Budget is around 400-600 USD. Thank you all! [link] [comments] |
