Did your Google News just start ignoring all your preferences? Android Apps

Did your Google News just start ignoring all your preferences?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:46 AM PST

Google News has been rocky for a while. For a while there it would ignore my attempts to tell it that I didn't want sports or cars or Kanye West or all kinds of stuff like that. Then it seemed to get better and finally listen to me. Then they even added more ways to tell it how to shape your feed. More options on why you didn't want a particular thing for example.

But just a couple of days ago it's like it forgot everything I'd ever told it. I got clobbered over the head with sports and cars and hip hop and all kinds of stuff that I've specifically told it I don't want and a bunch of random local news stories from news stations in places that don't live.

But when I go to my preferences, all of my stuff that I have told it is still there, so it's not like it has lost my profile or something. I told it I don't want any of this stuff and I've spent the last two days telling it over and over to stop giving me this stuff but it keeps giving it to me. Just wondering if this is only me or something wrong with the app.

What's the concensus on Files by Google?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 07:48 AM PST

    Hello, /r/androidapps

What's your opinion of Files by Google? Is it worth using as a daily driver? Is it a decent replacement for Solid Explorer?

I see that it also features file cleaning. In that regard, how does it compare to SD Maid?

A list of a few privacy friendly apps I use

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 12:55 PM PST

Just thought I'd share this. Some of them are on F-Droid. ClassyShark3xodus is a must if you want to look for trackers in apps.

Blokada: Blocks ads system wide. Can block trackers too.

ClassyShark3xodus: Open Source app that can scan apps and detect trackers. One of my favorites.

AnySoftKeyboard: Open Source keyboard that doesn't track what you type. It's actually pretty good.

Bitwarden: Open Source password manager that doesn't track you.

ProtonMail: End to End encrypted email client. I use this for my main/important email.

Tor Browser: Anonymous web browser (need to be on a vpn as well.)

    LibreTorrent: Open Source torrent client.

Feel free to share some apps that you use too!

Does any alternative to Changes (keeps track of app updates/changelogs) exist?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 11:16 AM PST

I tried it after downloading it off apkpure, but the app simply doesn't work anymore - it doesn't display the changelog info or anything for the apps.

But yeah, I basically just want another app which shows me the changelog history of my apps. So does anyone know of a decent alternative? Thanks..!

What would be the best choice of vpn for android?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 05:31 AM PST

Hey, everyone I really need your help with picking the vpn for android. I want to get a vpn to my friend because he keeps talking how much he needs one but the problem is that I don't use it and I don't have an android myself. I found an article with the list of vpn Christmas deals, but I really would like to get some opinion on this. So far, looks like Nordvpn has the best deal, but how does it work on androids?

    Thanks!

An app to balance stereo sound

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 04:01 AM PST

I've got a pair of broken earbuds and one of the earpiece's volume is a little lower than the other one. If someone finds something like the Sound Amplifier from Google that works with bluetooth devices it would be great.

    Looking for SMS clone app

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 08:27 PM PST

Hi all I'm looking for an app which will allow me to monitor (and reply to if possible) SMS messages sent to a phone, on another andriod phone. I don't need access to anything else. Just the SMS

(Disclaimer. It's a second work phone I have. I'm not looking to spy on someone else's phone. I'd just like a way to be able to monitor messages on it from my primary phone so I don't have to carry two phones with me)

Does LG have an app like Samsung's Secure Folder? or is there an Open source alternative?

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 03:30 AM PST

Been eyeing the Lg G8X recently but would like to know if it has an app like the secure folder or not as that app is just too useful to give up.

Also is there a feature like the "Dual Messenger" one where you can register two Whatsapps/Snapchats etc seperately?

[REQUEST] App to learn languages through conversation with strangers BUT forbids/penalizes dating

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:19 PM PST

When I download apps or join public chatrooms on the (false) premise that they would allow me to talk with people about specific conversation topics, and I could practice my conversational skills they ALWAYS end up being just another place for people to date or make cliques with friends that they already know in real life and what ends up happening is that the users will either ignore me or straight up block me because I'm not in on the dating.

Well what i want is an app for conversational spoken English but that will penalizes and forbid dating, and cliquish behavior in some way (or maybe the community looks down on it) so that I can avoid this distasteful stupid situations

App that force to open links in browser

    Posted: 13 Dec 2019 02:56 AM PST

    Hi,

I will keep as simple as possible.

    For example:

I'm watching news feed in Google News. Is there an app that force opening links in default browser instead of build in one into feeds/twitter etc?

Is there an app that automatically deletes text messages from an unwanted/blocked number?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 10:26 PM PST

Hello, I am looking for an anti-stalker app.

The phone is Samsung S7. The functionality I need is for the stalked person not to see the messages at all, I don't want them to go to a folder, as it does now (blocked messages under sms settings). Ideally, the app would inform the sender that the message cannot be delivered, but as far as my research goes, I do know I'm asking for too much.

    Thank you in advance.

Looking for a specific podcast app which could show you search results based on things talked in a particularepisode

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 01:02 PM PST

I don't remember the name, but I remember seeing a podcast app which showed you search results based on what was talked about in an episode.

The downside was that only very few Podcast shows were actually supported by this feature (apparantly it was difficult) so I uninstalled it. I just feel like downloading it again.

[Beta Testers Needed] Word Wizards Duel : Android Multiplayer Game App

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 08:02 PM PST

    Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wordwizardsduel.game

    Hi,

We at Happy Proton Games are looking for beta testers for our newly developed word game app in Android. We would appreciate any feedback on the gameplay, graphics, multiplayer framework, characters etc.

Hope you enjoy playing this game.

    Details of Word Wizards Duel:

Word Wizards Duel is a word-fantasy game, where the power of words lead you to victory. You enter a magical land where wizards, mages and scary statues challenge you to a word - duel.

You can also duel with your friends, siblings and parents using Online Multiplayer or LAN/Bluetooth .

    What is a word duel?

It is a duel where the person who makes rare words faster wins. It combines best essence of scrabble and fantasy. You can use spells too in the midst of a duel.

What kind of spells are there?

Spells like health boost, shield of protection, freeze blasts etc make this the best word game experience.

Can I word-duel with my friends and family?

ABSOLUTELY YES!!!!! You can (in-fact we encourage you to) duel with your friends , your siblings, your parents, your kids if you have any, your aunts and uncles, your grandparents and even that kid across that street that you barely know.

    How can I duel them?

There are two ways to start a Multiplayer duel.

    1. You can duel with your friends using online play. Here you host a duel and get a duel code. You friend can then join the duel entering the duel code. You can also challenge other online players for a word duel by using the quick game option.

You can also see where you rank among the rest of the word wizards in the entire planet.

    1. You can use LAN/Bluetooth to duel them if they are near you and connected to same Wi-fi network and also have this app installed.

So embark on this fun, educational and challenging journey of Word-Wizards-Duel.

    You will love it!!

    To summarize:

    • Word game: Make words to duel with other wizards. The rarer the word, more powerful it is.

    • Puzzles : Answer interesting puzzles to move ahead in your adventure

    • Multiplayer : Play with your family and friends. Challenge them to a word duel!

    • Fantasy : Embark on a magical journey dueling powerful wizards, strange creatures

    • Spells: Learn powerful and fun spells that will aid you in your duels

    • Adventure: Clear all single player levels and be crowned as the best word wizard in the land of Alphabetia!

What's a decent Samsung edge screenshot equivalent?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:59 PM PST

I just switched to a pixel from a Samsung. So far I'm in love with it. The only feature I'm really missing so far it a way to quickly create cropped screenshots.

On the Samsung, you could add an edge panel that had 4 screenshot tools in it - one of which was a cropped screenshot. I'd love to have something like that back.

If I could get an app that, when a screenshot button is clicked, let's you select an area of the screen instead of taking a whole-screen screenshot, that'd be great.

    Thanks!
