Replacing a dead hard drive, need clarification. Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:33 AM PST My wife's laptop (HP) with windows 8 had the entire hard drive fall out. The case has a separate insert for the hard drive for easy upgrades, the cover broke some how and drive is gone. I have a spare hard drive from a dell, I'm thinking my best bet is to flash it and install windows fresh from my other laptop with a USB adapter. Now I dont want to pay again for windows, and I'm told that windows saves some code to the remaining hardware (motherboard maybe?) So I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is true for windows 8. Also I'm concerned about bios, are those saved to the motherboard or something? I'f not how do I recover and install them? [link] [comments] |
