Motorola One Action Surprisingly Good for the Price | 21:9 Aspect Ratio is Great! Posted: 17 Dec 2019 03:32 PM PST Just wanted to share that I think the Motorola One Action is surprisingly good for the price - currently on sale in the US for $250. I purchased one at that price simply to try a phone with a 21:9 screen and I'm really impressed with that aspect ratio! I really hope manufacturers consider making more phones with a 21:9 aspect ratio in the future as it fits most of the content we view on the phones better while still being relatively easy to hold. I find that when scrolling through social media it makes for more reading and less swiping and when watching movies more of the screen is filled with the movie and less with black bars. Being narrower, it's also easier to grip for a phone with a 6.3" screen. As for the One Action itself, it's surprisingly good for a mid-ranger. Motorola does not use much of a custom skin for the UX, so it's a rather clean and uncluttered Android experience. They simply add in a few gestures for swiping and to quickly turn on the camera and flashlight. Swipe right from the home screen brings up the Google Discover feed and you can even configure a double press of the power button to bring up the Google Assistant. Performance is better than I expected with smooth scrolling of timelines and quick transitions between apps. You do see an occasional little stutter here and there as it simply doesn't have the specs to match the smoothness of the flagships. The only real complaint I have about the phone is the cameras are sub-par. Or maybe my expectations are simply too high (in the past year I've carried a Pixel 3, Galaxy S10, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 4, which all take obviously amazing photos). The photos from main camera on the One Action are mostly use-able in good lighting, but photos in low light and photos from the front facing camera are simply terrible. Battery life is pretty good as I get upwards of 5 hours of SOT a day and have only had to top up a couple times. After using this phone for the better part of the past month, I'm torn. I REALLY enjoy the 21:9 screen and the performance is good enough, but the bad photo quality makes it hard to recommend as a primary phone/daily driver, darn it. The Pixel 3a is only $100 more and shows just how good a mid range phone can be and I hope Motorola can add better cameras to the 2.0 version of this phone or other manufacturers start making their own 21:9 phones. The other thing I learned with this phone is that I'm not sure a flagship phone is worth $900-$1,000 anymore. The One Action and the Pixel 3a offer 75-80% of the functionality at literally 1/4th to 1/3rd the cost of the flagships. Just thought I'd share some feedback about this phone as I haven't seen many posts about it. Happy Holidays! [link] [comments]

Android 10 for the LG G7 One Edition Is Now Available Posted: 16 Dec 2019 11:53 PM PST This is why I bought the G7 One. Even in the United States, where it's basically a large tablet with 3G voice. It took a little over six months, but Google continued to push monthly security updates for Pie, and met their own internal delivery timetables. All this, despite the US carriers ghosting the phone. Best built-in DAC since SST Audio went away. And now, Android 10 too - yes with DTS and Quad DAC fully integrated. Ignore the profit-centric review sites, if you want a nice iPod touch slayer for Christmas, run and deplete the refurb G7 One supplies on eBay. And while you're at it, take five minutes to ask LG Public Relations why all Android phones can't be maintained like this. If half the people that read this did, stuff might change. This is the only LG phone I would buy today. [link] [comments]
Just returned a LG G8 over a lack of updates Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:46 AM PST LG, their is no excuse to not even issue security updates. My S8 is nearly 3 years old, has the November security patch. The LG had a April security patch. I'm very good with tech, I was frantically looking for what's going on. From what I can tell theirs a small array of different G8s, the carrier specific ones got updates. The unlocked ones didn't. LGs support was useless. I expect this from some upstart brand pushing media tech phones , not a multi billion dollar company. This isn't ok for a phone that just came out. On top of all that I had the worst reception, I tired both TMobile and a Verizon MNVO. In both cases single would randomly cut out , data switching itself on and off. Shout out to Best Buy for letting me return the phone as defective once I explained the issue. They waved the 45$ restock fee ! [link] [comments]
Recently got Asus ROG Phone 2, my experience with it and feel free to ask questions! Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:06 AM PST I bought it after a lot of thinking around and finally settled on it. I got it for about 550 USD or 38000 INR (8gb/128gb), because at that price, this phone is a goddamn steal. Using the phone is quite the pleasure. Smoothness all around because of 120hz screen, 240hz touch response, top SoC, cant ask anything more right now. Battery backup is out of this world. Havent seen anything quite like it. I had wifi, data, occasional location and bluetooth, and most importantly 120hz turned on a single charge. Results were amazing. More than 10hrs of screen on time. Check it out- https://imgur.com/a/CpoIlt1 For anything other questions, feel free to drop them in the comments. [link] [comments]
