I bought a magnetic charger and it has messed up my charging port somehow?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:02 PM PST

My phone (Pixel 2 XL) no longer works properly with a regular charger. Now when I plug in my original factory charter the phone shuts off instantly. I can wait until the phone is in the process of powering on, after the google logo turns into the spinning balls and plug in the charger at the right time and it will work, but if I plug it in when it is already on it shuts immediately. For some reason the magnetic charger still works, but it is not fast charge. Any tips on how to fix this? Can I even fix this?

Why does Google make it so complicated to simply swipe away notifications?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:27 AM PST

Why does Google care if I always swipe one away? I already saw it. So I swiped it. Why would I need to keep it or why would I want to hide future notifications? I just want to remove a notification after I've viewed it, is that so hard?

MicroSD Card in rooted android keeps losing write permissions

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:53 PM PST

As some background info, I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S4 (running 5.0.1 Lollipop) primarily to allow me to use a microSD card as an extension of the file storage. I probably went through a dozen different websites and techniques before getting it to cooperate even after rooting. The Link2SD app was the final one I tried and I was finally able to format the card as NTFS and use it as an extension of the phone storage while acknowledging that it was a removable device.

As time went on, I used File Manager successfully to transfer files back and forth ... until one day, when I went to delete my music collection to make room for a different one, and I found myself 'unable to delete file'. Tried with the app on the phone instead of via the browser, same issue. Tried with the system file explorer, downloaded SD Maid among others, even connecting to a PC via USB, was unable to delete the folders/files or add new ones. Can't even make a 'new folder'. Tried a few standard troubleshooting techniques to ensure the card wasn't write-protected, however, I can't necessarily remove it from my phone without it causing some issues, what sort I'm not sure, but I've decided I'm leaving it in nonetheless.

However! I eventually found a site suggesting that non-system apps don't have the same level of access as system apps do, so with that in mind, I went and used Link2SD to convert File Manager into a system app, and it worked after rebooting! I was able to delete a folder and the contained files without trouble. I thought the problem resolved, and decided to pursue copying the new music onto it later that evening.

As you might expect, or not, later that evening the same issue arose. I confirmed the File Manager was still considered a system app, rebooted, no effect. A few additional website searches later, and I find another suggestion to edit the permissions.xml file directly ... which I did, and then it worked after rebooting! Was at work and didn't have anything to copy over, so I let it be, came home .... and the problem has returned. Except this time I can't even FIND the 'permissions.xml' file.

My mind is giving up on me, and I can't even type new searches into Google without finding everywhere I've already been. Hopefully someone has some ideas, but if not, suggestions on an android app to use to format the phone would be nice too.

Unable to log into Moto G4 Play lock screen: blinking cursor, no text. Emergency calls only

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 09:41 PM PST

Hi all, I just discovered this sub and have a question about a Moto G4 Play phone. It was released in May 2016 and I bought it new this year on a prepaid cell plan, using it for apps like airbnb, google maps, text now texting, and light browsing.

The problem is that when it's on and I swipe up, on the black screen, I can't type in my password to unlock it. There's a line with a flashing cursor and I when I tap the screen on the cursor , nothing happens. The only options are tapping "Emergency" at the bottom to get to the emergency number dialer and the back arrow to return to the lock screen.

I fiddled around with the power button and held the volume button down and that activated safe mode. Now it's back in "normal mode". Any ideas on how to restore access? I don't have a usb cable to hook it up to my PC, and I wouldn't know how to troubleshoot it that way. I'm open to doing a hard reset (need instructions) but would rather avoid it to preserve saved texts and data. And no, I didn't back up my data to a google drive or whatever it's called (newb here). Thanks

Lots of lag after last update

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 08:33 PM PST

After the last system update there's a LOT of lag. Everything that has to do with the system is horrible. Other apps like Reddit, messenger and all those aren't affected. It's the same for a coworker. Where do I notify the developers of this fault? I can't find feedback functions. Or does anyone have a solution for this?

I tried wiping the cache as per this guide But didnt work.

If I want to re-try installing android from bootloader, where can I download the package from? Any good guides for this?

Can I force a Google Drive update when my Android version is too old to get new updates for it?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 08:06 PM PST

My phone doesn't get new android OS updates from carrier. I could probably root it, but haven't decided yet if I will.

Can I somehow download the Google Drive files and force it to update? Can I fake what Android version I have to let the Google Store give me updates? Thx

Call waiting: incoming call screen covers up existing call screen

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:43 PM PST

I am using a Google Pixel XL with stock Android 10 on Verizon. I use my phone frequently throughout the day and am often on a call when a second call comes in. But when that second call comes in, the screen completely overtakes my phone, including the screen for the phone call I'm already on.

Is there some way to toggle between screens before actually answering the second call? Or set the second incoming call screen to the background?

The reason I ask is that often on the first call I'm just leaving a voice message, which I can wrap up quickly while the second call is still ringing. But because the second call screen takes over the phone, I have to answer it before I can do anything else, including hanging up on my first call. So then I have to put the second caller on hold to go back and exit the first call so the voice message doesn't go on endlessly in silence.

I hope that makes sense. I've looked and haven't found a solution, but I figure there has to be a better way.

    Android dictionary character limits

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:41 PM PST

I did a search and found a post on this, but it went unanswered 3 years ago, so I'll create this post.

I used keyboard shortcuts on iOS that allowed me to type something like "ppp" and it would turn it into an important greeting. It looks like Android handles it through "personal dictionary". Unfortunately, it looks like it limits the character length for the output entry.

Is there anyway around this? Hopefully not through an app download, but if that's what it takes?

Can I just delete APKs in my phone to save space?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:40 PM PST

There's a lot of apk files that are dated January 1, 2009 in my phone and they're taking up quite a substantial amount of space. I don't know much about these things so I'm not sure if I can just delete them.

Hard-bricked Oneplus. No fastboot, adb, MSM available!

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 03:29 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I recently tried to fully reinstall LineageOS on my Oneplus 6T, but ran into a severe problem. The phone now completely freezes at the screen that says 'bootloader unlocked'. No commands or buttons work, and the only way to shutdown, restart or get any kind of response is to wait for the battery to run out.

ADB, fastboot and MSM is unavailable, since it freezes to early for the device to be recognized. Recovery mode is also unavailable, since the phone, for some reason, automatically starts as soon as it has enough energy to do so; there is no opportunity to 'hold the volume-down and power-button'.

After having unlocked the bootloader, I executed the following commands in fastboot:

fastboot flash boot twrp-image.img fastboot boot twrp-image.img

The phone then booted into fastboot-mode, but froze (similar to above) when showing the 'fastboot-mode'-screen. After waiting for the battery to run out, it now freezes as specified above.

I really appreciate all kinds of advices and help. Thank you in advance!

    Update erased my data

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:13 PM PST

Hey there. I was working today, and later pulled out my phone to see it had me reset my phone. Like asking me if I wanted to use this phone's previous number and asking about the SIM card. Upon exiting, the phone looks like it updated but I lost ALL my files, notes, pictures. Everything. And my phone was in my pocket the whole time.

Does anyone have any idea how to recover the info? I'm really at a loss here.

    Help

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:47 PM PST

For the last couple weeks, I've had certain apps take long to load with a refresh symbol that appears in the middle of the screen. Some of them stall for at least 5-10 seconds before loading.

This is not the widely reported problem of having the refresh symbol in the notification bar, it's always in the middle of the screen. Any suggestions on why this is happening on my phone my phone is also fully updated.

    Thanks.

Remote Device Erase with no Data?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:21 PM PST

    Hello,

Left my device in a 3rd world country and I need to remotely wipe it. I already activated the wipe, but how will it connect to the internet if...

    1. My data does not work in that country
    2. The phone is password protected and currently off
    3. The phone would need to connect to wifi to get internet

The person who currently has it has been in contact with me (can be trusted) and cannot ship it to the USA. Any ideas on how to wipe data, or should I not even be worried since there is a password on bootup?

Do Not Disturb Scheduled Mode Broken

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:11 PM PST

I use to have my Do Not Disturb on a schedule (8A - 5:30P M-F), and it worked perfectly.

Now it does not with with the new Android 10 update. It turns on at the appropriate time, but it does not turn off at the end time. When I open up the Do Not Disturb options, the Duraction setting is defaulted to "Until I Turn It Off", even though "Turn on as scheduled" is enabled. There doesn't seem to be any Duration options that allows it to follow the schedule. The options are "Until I Turn It Off", "1 Hour" (with adjustable controls to change the length), and "Ask Every Time", but it doesn't seem to adhere to the end of my schedule.

Accent Colors Not Working in Android Q (Android 10)

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:22 PM PST

I enabled Developer Options and attempted to change my accent color. However, when I pull down my Settings drawer, everything is still the default blue. The Icon Shape option does not update anything when I change that either.

Is that a known Android 10 bug?

How much of a difference is there between phones these days?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:19 PM PST

Pardon my ignorance. I have fallen out with a lot of the latest technology and phone releases. I have a Oneplus 6. I like it because it's very smooth and fast and does almost everything a flagship does. One thing that's criticized is the camera. It isn't as good as a Samsung or IPhone but IMO it's not a big deal and not really noticeable by many casuals.

My girlfriend wants a new phone. I'd usually tell her to hold off but her S6 is 4 years old now and a total POS no matter how much we try to Fix it. I also think it'll be a nice treat for herself. The problem is that my girlfriend isn't really tech-savvy. She ONLY wants a Samsung, and preferably a S10. I told her that I'm not against her getting a new phone but perhaps last generation like an S9 or even a midrange high performance phone like the Oneplus 7.

My question is are there any suggestions for a good performing phone that is newer and won't break the bank? I also keep trying to convince my girlfriend that the differences between this generation and last is so little that she won't notice the difference, especially in the Camera. Also that most Samsung features are generally useless and she's better off getting another cheaper brand. Am I wrong for thinking this?

    I can't find the setting.

Before the update I could slide my home button to the right and it would scroll through my apps.
