Long time Mac user on the edge of switching to PC, software replacements? Posted: 02 Oct 2019 04:23 PM PDT Hey folks! Been using various iterations of the MBP for the last ten years, and a Windows environment is looking more and more attractive as new designs/hardware come out. The main thing holding me back is the lack of two key programs: Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro. Does anyone have any solutions in their own experience - either in programs that are similar price and ease of use, or dualboxing an OSX environment? [link] [comments]

How to create specific folder automatic backup to a USB drive? Windows 10 Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:08 PM PDT I have a specific folder on my desktop that I would like to backup on a USB automatically when that USB gets plugged in. Additionally, I would like just the contents of that folder to be backed up to the drive, and replace the old ones/overwrite them etc. It would be mostly Microsoft office type files, word docs, PowerPoint etc. If possible I would like to avoid third party tools, even if the initial set up is hard through windows. I am running windows 10. I do not want to use OneDrive, so not an option. I do not like the cloud services even though it is convenient. [link] [comments]
Installing a download of Windows 10 on a brand new hard drive. Posted: 02 Oct 2019 11:52 AM PDT I had to replace a failing hard drive in a friend's pc. Unfortunately they only had an oem install of Windows 10, which obviously the Microsoft download site won't accept the product code for. I've looked into it quite thoroughly and it seems they will just have to buy Windows 10. Now here's my dilemma... Rather than just buying it and getting a disk (which would make my job much easier lol) she wants to get it through her college since she can get it for free that way. But her college only offers it for download, no disk. And I'm not sure how to go about getting that download onto the new hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:40 PM PDT I love the screensaver/locked screen slideshow. I have a folder with pictures, and the slideshow randomly display a picture or a collage of them, and even has an animated transition. I dont even bother turning my screen off, unless if I would be gone for a long while. However, the default wallpaper slideshow only displays 1 picture at a time. Is there a configuration or application that could replicate the locked screen slideshow for the wallpaper one? [link] [comments]
Movies and TV download pending issue may not be a total issue. Posted: 02 Oct 2019 03:43 PM PDT I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this but if anyone else has had a problem viewing their purchased content on your windows 10 devices such as a download pending status that does not change, I may have just found something. Well idk if it's just me but try downloading a small file like an episode rather than a movie and let it sit there. I tried downloading the 1st season of My Hero Academia and it hit me with the pending status, while I was searching for a fix, I looked back and the download list went from 13 to 8. I believe the content is downloading but the actual error is that it shows as pending. [link] [comments]

What does the Surface Pro X being ARM mean for Windows and the future of computing? Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:43 PM PDT When the Surface line started, the Surface RT ran an ARM based chip and needed it's own version of Windows that didn't support x86 apps. Does the Pro X support them? How? By my understanding, computing platforms are going to need to move to ARM since x86 on silicon is less efficient and starting to plateau. If no major transistor material/method breakthrough occurs soon, we'll be reaching silicon's innate thermal limitations before long. The delay in switching now is software compatibility, at least I think? If the Pro X is ARM and running full Windows, does this mean the transition to ARM isn't as big of a deal as I thought? Or is the Pro X not able to support x86 applications? Do we know? [link] [comments]

Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB bluescreen after Windows 10 1903 update Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:17 PM PDT Yoga 720 13IKB blue screen after Windows 10 1903 update I have two Yoga 720 13IKBs having the same problem after installing the Windows 10 1903 update this week. Both get bluescreens with the 'page fault in nonpaged area' message. So far, I have attempted to uninstall the most recent updates, reinstalled Windows twice through 'reset this PC', checked updates on all driver's through Lenovo vantage, performed the test typing 'chkdsk /f /r' in command prompt, and performed tests through memory devices manager. Nothing shows any problems with the RAM. If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:53 PM PDT Hey so I have a huge problem. I just bought a laptop today and the sound is terrible. It sounds like it was adjusted to treble and bass lowered. I can't find the way how to get rid of this problem. My Realtek manager doesn't even exist on my laptop and I can't install it because it just dissappears. Do you have any ideas cause I am really desperate for a way out of this trouble... [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2019 01:48 PM PDT Hello, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to write this.. but I have a question about the desktop background for Windows 10. When I try to control select the applications/items on my desktop vertically, it always selects them horizontally. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not. But I was wondering if there was a way to fix this [link] [comments]
Does Microsoft use LogMeIn Rescue? Posted: 02 Oct 2019 09:42 AM PDT Greetings. I used the helpme app today and ended up calling for help. Indian call center I think and after some help, got forwarded to a second person. They used logmein to help me with a Windows 10 activation, got a legit key etc so all is well. Question is. Is there any possibility this was a scam? Maybe I've seen too many fake tech support scammer videos but they did what I asked and nothing was uploaded, no passwords asked etc. I have F-Secure and it gave a clean result afterwards well. Just bit suspicious since first time getting remote assistance. All links they used were microsoft ones so it seemed legit. [link] [comments]
Is it possible to install windows on a Lenovo 500e Chromebook? Posted: 02 Oct 2019 02:48 AM PDT I know you can download windows on some chromebooks, but I can find minimal information about doing it on this particular model, and was wondering if it was possible. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2019 06:15 AM PDT Today I noticed that my Snip & Sketch app cannot save the screen snip. I can only copy it to the clipboard but the save button shows "Something went wrong". If I change the default storage location for Photos to drive D in the windows settings the app starts working normally. But if I return it back to the drive C the app is not working again. And I don't want to keep my storage location to other drive than C. But this is part og the problem. In the Photos and Video Editor app I cannot import images or videos. It tells me I should add them to the library first. But when I try to add new folders in the app settings as new libraries the open folder button is not working. Also if I click import from folder in the photos app it also doesn't do anything. Last I used the apps a few weeks ago and everthing was fine. Since then I installed all updates for windows but they are just the default Cumulative updates. Is it possible the Cumulative update for September is messing something up? I think before it I used them and they were working fine. Do you experience similar problems? [link] [comments]
IPv4 DNS settings always revert to manual Posted: 02 Oct 2019 09:27 AM PDT Hi there, Running 1903 on my laptop. My school's WiFi is restricted in such a way that they will not allow you to connect to the network using a DNS server that isn't their own. This means that every time I connect to their WiFi after connecting to my network, I need to go Settings > Network > Change Adapter Options > WiFi > IPv4 > Auto-obtain DNS. Why doesn't Windows automatically get the DNS every time it connects to a network like any other OS, and how can I fix this so that it's less tedious? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:18 AM PDT Hello there! Been a long time windows user but can seem to figure out how notifications work...so none of the apps or mail give me notifications as they come...the only time get all the notification together is when i plug in my laptop to the charger. I'm guessing this has something to do with battery saving and background synchronization...it would be great if you kind folks could tell me how to turn off this feature and get notifications all the time. Some settings managed by org... Tried group policy but no luck Posted: 02 Oct 2019 12:07 AM PDT Windows 10 Enterprise, latest updates. Company might locked my settings, so that I couldn't change the desktop color under personalization, couldn't setup remote desktop, and some other settings. Tried Group Policy but no luck, any idea?
