PC inside a Nintendo GameCube (casemod) Posted: 03 Sep 2019 04:00 AM PDT After about a month I finally completed this build. This is my first casemod so I'd love to get some feedback on it. Specs - ASRock A300M-STX - Ryzen 5 2400g - 16gb Crucial 3200mhz SODIMM - Crucial P1 1tb M.2 SSD The total cost of this build was just over $500 Temps I was expecting this build to run pretty toasty considering the size, but it does alright. Opening the lid also helps a lot with airflow. Idle: ~30c Aida64 Extreme: ~80c Edit: I was actually thinking about selling this over on r/hardwareswap. I had a ton of fun building it but I don't need a second PC. I would love for someone else to use this rather than it just sitting on my desk. Do you guys think anyone would be interested? If so, what would be a good price? I would clean up the paint as I've already gotten some complaints about it, and I agree it looks kind of messy. Posted: 03 Sep 2019 08:04 AM PDT Some pictures of the new rig, freshly built from last night! Went from an i5 2500k/GTX 970/12gig RAM ----> Ryzen 7 3700x/RTX 2070 Super / 16gig RAM. Picked up a fancy new 1440p/144hz monitor (LG 27GL850, as well. Didn't have much time to stress test before bed last night (was up way too damn late building this thing and troubleshooting a couple of minor issues) but damn, Witcher 3 and FFXIV looked like brand new games. So excited to finally dig into Control later tonight. Regarding the build: so much fun. My first build (and only build) was in 2011, so I had to use a bunch of guides and Youtube videos as reminders of what exactly to do. Honestly the trickiest part was probably getting the fan clips onto the CPU cooler - for some reason I couldn't get them to snap in, lol. Took me legit 15-20 minutes of fumbling and cursing with the things. But everything else was a piece of cake. I had one minor GPU issue where the monitor wasn't reading the GPU, but of course that was a loose cable. A quick and easy fix. I then had some trouble getting the BIOS to recognize my SSD as a bootable drive, but switching it to Legacy mode fixed that problem. Was able to boot into Windows 10 with 0 issues. I've dreamed of having one of these RGB builds for years, ever since I saw pictures of ones with the lights and tempered glass sides. It still feels surreal to have finally built one - it's just awesome. I did a MUCH better job with cable management this time around - my old HAF X was just a nightmare of cables. So it feels great to keep it clean. I still wasn't able to keep it immaculate like some pictures I see (mostly had some trouble hiding the RGB nodes for the fans, which you can see in the bottom right in the second picture) but for the most part, I'm happy with it. Even the side back panel isn't an absolute nightmare (but I still won't share any pictures of it, ha). Work is going to be rough today, but I am so excited to dig into some games tonight. I bought myself a 2nd SDD (500 gig...the one I have now is 256 and pretty much filled) since I'll be bringing over my Destiny 2 PS4 save soon. I heard it was like 160 gigs after Shadowkeep drops so I definitely needed more space if I wanted more than just Destiny 2 and FFXIV installed, lol. That should arrive later this week, and I'm stoked to finally play Destiny 2 the way it was meant to be played. Thanks to everyone here for the build help, tips, advice before/after. You guys are terrific! [link] [comments]
Would you trust a power supply from eBay? Posted: 03 Sep 2019 03:33 PM PDT I was looking into buying a new power supply and I can save almost 100$ on eBay and was wondering if you guys would trust it to work? [link] [comments]
Holy Crap Things Have Changed in the Past Few Years! Posted: 03 Sep 2019 12:06 PM PDT Im building for the first time since around 2017 when the coin market fucked over PC building, and jesus christ things are cheap. 16gb of RAM? $70?! It was at least twice that price when I last checked!! And GPU's! An Rx580 is only like $180!! What the fuck!! This is so crazy, and I cannot believe how much the market has changed. Im so excited to build again and I can't believe how lucky people are with these prices. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Sep 2019 02:54 PM PDT I just finished my first Build! Here is the parts list to anyone interested: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CXqvw6. I bought it all from Microcenter for around $2100, which I have been saving up to for years. It's kind of my dream build, with a Red Devil 5700 XT and Ryzen 7 3700. I haven't ever had a PC so I am looking forward to being able to play PC games. It was a bit nostalgic as my dad who passed away in 2015 loved computers, and I learned after the fact had built some of his own. My only wish was that I was better at cable management and that he would be here with me to build it. If you guys have any tips for cable management or nice peripherals, as I've wanted to get a nice typing keyboard and mouse but haven't settled on one yet, please let me know in the comments. Any first time builders, my tips to you are to actually read through the instuctions manuals (Yes they do actually help), and to watch multiple different tutorial videos. There is nothing like the feeling of waiting for five minutes as you are unsure if your PC will boot and it does, and everything ends up working perfectly. I did a little happy dance and let out a shriek of triump/relief. [link] [comments]
Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i5-9400F Posted: 03 Sep 2019 07:43 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking to get a custom built pc, but can't decide on either the Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i5-9400F. This is my first pc so I'm essentially clueless. The overall pc specs for each are: Ryzen 5 2600:

New Build Crashes during light tasks only Posted: 03 Sep 2019 04:01 PM PDT Hello all, Very desperate to fix my new (and very first) PC Build. After multiple failures, I was able to get my new Ryzen build to boot and install windows. Since then, I've been able to use my PC for a little bit before it crashes. And by crashes, I mean no BSOD, just goes black and restarts. Now originally people thought it was a RAM issue, so I replaced my RAM and got Ryzen certified RAM and started using it with XMP. Things were fine until it they were not, crashes left and right. I've been seeking support from multiple places but haven't been able to get this resolved. Interestingly, my PC is fine during intense gaming sessions. I was able to fully finish Control and play Rainbow 6 quite often. My PC only seems to crash when I'm surfing on Google Chrome, watching Youtube, or just using File Explorer. Recently, it's been having trouble waking up from sleep as well. When woken, it displays nothing, runs for a little bit, and then just shuts down. From this Microsoft Answers thread I've been asking, I've tried the following: - Ran memtest86 for 19 hours and 8 passes; no errors were detected; also used Windows Memory Diagnostics and that didn't return any errors either. - Ran SFC and DISM Health checks which return no errors either - Using the Motherboard provider's drivers. Only using the latest Nvidia drivers. - Disabling Hardware Acceleration for Chrome and Edge; didn't fix anything. In Event Viewer, I get a lot of the following errors: - Error 9/1/2019 8:59:03 PM BugCheck 1001 None - Warning 9/1/2019 9:47:34 PM DistributedCOM 10016 None The Bugcheck issue is always in the event viewer when my PC restarts from this crash. Quick questions about upgrading MOBO,CPU (Intel => Ryzen 5) and GPU Posted: 03 Sep 2019 05:57 AM PDT Hi! I'm upgrading my motherboard (Asus B85M-G => X570-A PRO) and my CPU (i5 4570S => Ryzen 5 3600X) as well as my GPU (R9 280 => RTX 2070 Ventus), and I have a few questions. I'm thinking of doing a reinstallation of Windows 10 so that I clean of my SSD as well. I plan to connect my Windows key to my Microsoft account for an easy boot. I will of course back up my whole SSD to the cloud as well as a HDD before reinstalling.

Advice on a refurbished laptop, please. Posted: 03 Sep 2019 03:17 PM PDT Hey there, I need a new laptop to get some work done and also do some light gaming on the side. Finished my build! First one by myself, second custom build. Posted: 03 Sep 2019 10:14 AM PDT Link to bad photos :) Not photo'd Buildapc 1 million subs T-shirt. I see that most people share their final builds. Here is mine, I wanted to make something simple, and I really like the NZXT H500 case. Also, tips to make my GPU not so droopy? I slowly built this rig from Amazon Prime day/week to now. The part I waited to come into stock was the processor. I think it was all worth the wait. :) It booted first try with 0 problems.
NOTE: I think I need to disclose I'm an Intel employee, and I cannot get any discounted parts for anyone. I capped my annual processor purchase limit. [link] [comments]
Dual-Boot Gaming & Workstation GPUs Posted: 03 Sep 2019 03:09 PM PDT I'm planning a gaming pc along with some light workstation (CAD/CAM) use - Solidworks (or Catia). Solidworks requires a tested workstation card to access all features. I'm looking at a Geforce RTX (Super), and a lower tier Quadro or Radeon Pro. Would it be possible to have dual-boot of windows, enabling the GPU for the respective use along with a hdmi switch to the monitor? I want to avoid driver conflicts and only require a single monitor. I will likely try the registry hack ("Realhack") to see how Solidworks runs on the GeForce only, however I have low expectations. Other components: i5 9600k, 16gb ddr4 3200, Z390 m-ATX (ASUS TUF Z390M-Pro). [link] [comments]
Is it possible to buy products from Zadak in the US? Posted: 03 Sep 2019 02:59 PM PDT I really like the look of Zadak's MOAB II RGB DDR4, but I am unable to find any sites that sell it. Even using a search engine, it's as if the product doesn't even exist. The only thing I can think of is that they just don't sell their products internationally, but if anyone has had a different experience with the company, please let me know. Thanks! Posted: 03 Sep 2019 02:55 PM PDT So I'm still in the thinking process for my pc build. I had chosen a B450 Tomahawk but realize it can't take my ARGB Cooler master 500m and Corsair H100i RGB PLATINUM. Any recommendations for a motherboard that takes ARGB and similar to a B450 and my cooler? [link] [comments] |
