Oneplus 5 phone got stolen. Google find my phone shows it as Oneplus 3T after two months and a new IMEI number. What could have happened?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 11:08 PM PDT

I lost my phone 2 months ago. Complained to the police. Haven't heard from them. But when I checked my Google FInd My Phone it showed as Oneplus 3T and that it was registered on 15 september and last login shows 17 september. IMEI number also seems to be different. Is there any way to track it?

    WiFi in a dorm

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 03:04 AM PDT

    Hi reddit,

so I live in a dorm for students and my problem is, that every time I connect myself with the Wi-Fi, there pops up a window in wich I have to login myself with my access data.

I have to do this even after my laptop was in sleepmode for just a few minutes.

So I'm asking if there is anything like a script or a program or a setting to automatically login to the WiFi.

I have a Mac if that is relevant.

    Thanks!

Skoda Amundsen infotainment system map update

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 02:39 AM PDT

I have a Skoda Octavia from 2011 with the Amundsen infotainment system. The navigation on this system is very outdated so I want to update the map that's installed (West Europe). On Skoda's website is stated that for newer models, these updates can be done online and for free, but for my older model there's no update available. Skoda says I have to go to a dealer and get an updated SD card for, yes, €200,00.

    What I know:

    • The original Skoda SD cards are for one time use only, they do not work when placed in another car
    • The old Amundsen system seems to read the maps from the SD card, not from an internal drive

Now I want to install this update myself, but looking through online forums, it seems to be very hard to update these older models since the software can only be used one time only. I'm trying to find someone who has done this before or someone who can point me in the right direction. Does someone have any experience with updating these old Amundsen systems?

    Critical Process Died BSOD.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:27 AM PDT

Hello there good people of reddit,

a few weeks ago I my pc started randomly BSODing, I'm usually at home only during the weekends so I didn't have much time to work on it.

Anyway, since then I've tested my ram using memtest86, did 4 passes twice and didn't get any error.

Downloaded CrystalDiskInfo, Both my drives seem to be healthy.

Tried stressing both my CPU and GPU to see if that causes a BSOD.

Tried multiple versions of multiple drivers for most components of my PC, both new and old.

    Deleting unwanted software.

    Checking for viruses and malware.

Tried a fresh install of windows.

    And updated my bios.

But even after all that, nothing seems to help, I still get bsod at seemingly random times, and I can't figure out the origin of the problem, and these particular bsods also will not save a minidump, I tried changing the drive to which the system should save a minidump and all sorts of stuff.

I'm kind of at a loss here, and could really use some help.

    SPECS:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

GPU: ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6Gb DUO

    MB: ASRock B450M-HDV

    RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16Gb (8x2) 3000Mhz

    SSD: MICRON C400 512Gb

HDD: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB

I also have a usb audio interface: Behringer UMC404HD

    Troubleshooting updates:

sfc /scannow results --> "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Can performing speed tests online hinder your ISP's abiltiy rectify an issue?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:26 AM PDT

Im currently experience extremely poor speeds at peak times, and after doing a speed test to determine the issue, my ISP has told me to not do any further speed tests as it can hinder their ability to fix the problem.

    Screenshot of exact phrasing.

I've been racking my brain trying to work out just how that can be possible. is there something i'm missing here?

Using RAM from prebuilt system in a custom PC

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 03:05 AM PDT

A friend recently upgraded his ram and gave me his single 16GB stick of HyperX Fury from an HP Omen desktop, was curious if I could somehow get this to work in my older PC that only has 8GB of memory?

    Model number: Kingston hp26d4u6d8me-16x

My PC specs are Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H, i5-6500. Was hoping it'd be as simple as removing the old stick and inserting the new one, but that just bootloops my PC. Tried removing the CMOS battery along with trying all four dimm slots, not really sure what else to try if it's even compatible.

    PC Startup bottlenecked by monitor

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:39 AM PDT

I just installed windows on a new M2 ssd, making the startup very fast. The monitor goes into sleep mode when I turn off my PC, and it (MSI MAG271CR) doesnt turn on before almost 6 seconds after I press the power button. I know 4-5 seconds isnt much to complain about, but if anyone has a solution I'd happily try it :)

Could a UPS fix this issue?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 02:51 AM PDT

I sold almost all of my old pc to a friend, only keeping the gpu and storage for my new system. He gets an ssd and an rx 5700xt and it has been just cutting out and giving a black screen but staying on-ish very often for almost 2 months and we have replaced the storage and I replaced the gpu with a 2060 super I found a great deal for, but it still happens.

He is using this pc in the basement of his family's apartment, it's a rather cheap apartment and he has everything in his room (light, chargers, modem/router) all connected through multiple extension cords to this one outlet. If a UPS was set up somewhere along here either at the first outlet or after an extension cord could this maybe fix this? What UPS would you recommend for not very much money that can at least tell us if this is the issue?

    Facebook account help

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:58 AM PDT

I used to have a Facebook account years ago but I deleted it. Recently I've started a small online buisness and I'd like to create a Facebook buisness page. I created a Facebook account and it was disabled. I created another one and it was disabled as well, I have been using my real name. To recover the latest account I uploaded a picture of my driving licence and then a week later a picture of my passport. I've still not heard anything back.

Does anyone know who to resolve this? Thanks.

My second monitor isn't being recognized anymore

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 11:24 PM PDT

I posted this to r/Amd support thread but didn't get answers so lets try here as well.

5700 xt stopped recognizing my second monitor.

So I have two monitors plugged into my gpu, my main monitor is with displayport and second monitor is with hdmi cable. Now my second monitor only says "No signal detected". This problem started a couple days ago when I wanted to watch a movie on my TV so I disconnected my second monitor and plugged TV's hdmi cable to the gpu and I received no signal. I thought thats weird so I plugged my second monitor back to the gpu and it didn't get signal anymore either. Now the second monitor doesn't even show up in device manager.

I tested the monitor and TV with my laptop so the issue isn't with the monitor or the hdmi cable. I also uninstalled gpu drivers with DDU and reinstalled but that didn't help either. Second monitor doesn't get picture even when it is the only monitor plugged into the GPU. So could the GPU's hdmi port break that easily or is my GPU breaking already?

GPU drivers and motherboard bios are up to date. I haven't overclocked anything. Trying to get answers here before buying a hdmi -> displayport adapter to try out another port since my GPU has only one hdmi port.

    PC specs:
Motherboard: MSI MPG x570 gaming pro carbon WiFi
GPU: ASUS ROG strix 5700 xt 8gb
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x with Noctua NH-D15 cooler
    Memory: G.Skill 16GB (2x8GB), Ripjaws V DDR4 3200MHz CL16
    PSU: Corsair RM650X

Noticing frame drops after fixing an issue.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:25 AM PDT

For the past couple months I've been having on and off issues with my computer. Every week or so my pc, which I used primarily for gaming, would crash, and the pc would be unable to start properly for about a day. After I removed one of the two Memory Sticks, the issue of crashing seemed to no longer be a problem, but now quite a few games that I used to be able to run at at least 60 frames will now sit at around 55 fps, and will often drop below 30 frames

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:19 AM PDT

I'm trying to control my PC (windows 10) from my phone (iOS 13.1). I tried using Microsoft RDP app but whenever I connect to my PC the screen on my PC goes to the windows login page, I want to control my PC from my phone and then see the what happens on the screen immediately. Any apps/software that can do this?

Bought a HP 2622 printer which won't connect to web services because I'm on a public wifi network

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:40 AM PDT

I live in an apartment building for university students and we use an unsecured wifi connection. I bought an HP 2622 (for HP instant ink) only to find out it won't connect to web services because I'm using an unsecured wifi network.

I tested this theory by enabling a secured wifi hotspot on my phone; and when the printer and my computer connected to it, web services were automatically enabled. However, the problem is that I cannot use my mobile hotspot as my primary wifi, as I don't have an unlimited data plan and, thus, have to rely on the unsecured public wifi network which interferes with the printer's connection to web services.

Is there any way I can duplicate the wifi network and add a password to it using WPA-2? I attempted to use my wifi adaptor to create a virtual wifi connection, but it proved unreliable ('no internet access' error).

Any help on resolving this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How to detect and block hidden coin miner?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:38 AM PDT

I'm playing an MMO game on a private server but people say that there is a coin miner in it that the devs use to get money. And it does use up a lot of CPU process.

How do i detect that there really is a miner and that it connects to some miner sites, and also to block the them?

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[troubleshooting] did i shortcircuit my laptop?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:37 AM PDT

A couple days ago I had water spilled on my Asus K45-VM laptop. I immediately pressed the physical button for it to shut down and after that removed the battery. I'm no technician myself, but I have some experience opening my PS4, iPhones, and some other electronics in general (I still don't have that technical know how, but I at least know what I shouldn't do) so I decided to open the laptop to take a look.

Well, I dried everything with a clean towel and a blow dryer for the parts I couldn't reach and it seemed fine. I proceeded to put everything back in its place and turned it on, but some of the keyboard keys were crazy.

When I typed the letter "a" it inputted "2a", for example. So, the next day I decided to open it again and let everything against my window so maybe the sunlight would help dry out (it was a cloudy, a bit rainy and cold day, so no excessive amounts of sunlight were present).

At night, I proceeded to put everything back in place, except for one thing. Well, the keyboard metal contact plate goes over the main board and it had a transparent plastic cover underneath it. It was kinda like those plastic screen covers that used to come with cheaper android phones and you would get rid of them immediately.

Well, it was glued to the plate by 4 glue stripes and I had removed it the previous day to dry the keyboard from its back, as the plastic was trapping a lot of moisture. I thought that maybe the plastic was bugging the keys, since it's glue stripes were trapping some dirt and I couldn't remove it easily without affecting the glue. With that in mind, I decided to remove it, mount everything and give it a try.

I first tried to turn it on with only the battery. The screen turned on, the Asus logo appeared for a second and then it turned off. I thought "well, the battery might've run out". It was a bit weird because I remembered it being charged, but whatever. So I plugged it in. Same thing happened. Laptop started for a second and turned off. After that, I just couldn't get it to turn on again, not even by plugging it in and removing the battery.

My conclusion: maybe the plastic thing was covering the keys not as a protection for an eventual water spillage, but as a protection for the board against the keyboard metal contact? It makes somes sense, I think.

Ah, I also tried a different thing on that second time I opened it up. For some reason, it came to my mind that it was a good idea to press the power button with the laptop open and the battery removed. "Take out static electricity from the system" I thought. Maybe it was in doing that that I fried it, also.

On that second time that I opened it up, I'd also forgot to remove the battery.

I'm thinking of taking it to the repair shop next Saturday for the guys to take a look and see if there's hope.

Any tips from you guys? I have this laptop since 2013 and I love it so much. It's an i7, 2GB GeForce gddr3 (does the job for me) 8GB ram and 500GB SSD. I really want it back.

[Hardware/Phone] Phone keeps crashing within moments of use, and battery doesn't seem to read right.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:36 AM PDT

Hey there! I'm kinda getting annoyed now. My Samsung Galaxy S6 keeps crashing. Before it happened maybe once or twice a week, but today alone I've had five crashes. I don't know what's causing it since I haven't installed any new apps, or downloaded anything other than images (FB, Disc).

To add to that, I got my battery replaced a couple of months ago, since the old one was around 3 years old and I thought it needed replacing. But I think I might have gotten a bad battery, since the phone doesn't read it right. Sometimes it charges to 100%, but then when I pull it out, it reads 70% or something like that. It's kind of annoying.

Are there any ways I can check for a bad battery, without actually opening the thing up? Or do I have to hit up the repairshop and get a new battery in it?

And as for the crashing, have anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you go about fixing it?

My router is accessible on the internet

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:41 AM PDT

[SOLVED] It wasn't accessible from the Internet. It just looked that way because I was connected via WiFi. You can't access it via public IP address, if you are not on my Wireless network.

Hi, I just noticed if I put my internet ip address in my browser's url bar, it opens the login to my router. I would like to disable this feature. I googled the problem and found for example how to control this external access: https://tunecomp.net/access-home-router-remotely-from-anywhere/

However, my router doesn't seem to have any of those settings (Remote access or Device administration).

My router model is Tp-Link TD-W9970. The manual is here https://www.ncf.ca/ncf/dsl/modem/TD-W9970_V1_UG.pdf

Here is a list of my uncollapsed menu options

Status Quick Setup Operation Mode Network IPTV DHCP Server Wireless Guest Network USB Settings Route Settings IPv6 Route Settings Forwarding Parent Control Firewall IPv6 Firewall IPv6 Tunnel Bandwidth Control IP & MAC Binding Dynamic DNS Diagnostic System Tools Logout

Could someone please help me disable this external access? Thanks.
