Stock vs MIUI. Is stock android overrated? Posted: 18 Aug 2019 07:01 PM PDT I recently got the Mi A2 stock android device after hearing all the rave reviews about stock android. While I personally like the stock android software, I also feel its probably overrated. There doesnt seem to be such a big difference compared to MIUI. The best thing I like about stock is the pure google play services experience. But if you delete the MI apps, you could use google services on MIUI as well. I also never really understood the attraction of the app drawer. Why use it when you can just open the app from the shortcut on your home screen? I also dont like how stock handles split screen activation. Anyway. Why do you prefer stock or MIUI? Is stock overrated? [link] [comments] |
Do I need an camera lens protector for the redmi note 7? Posted: 18 Aug 2019 04:34 PM PDT Will the lens be alright without any screen protectors? Is there a chance of getting scratches from everyday use? [link] [comments] |
Any guesses what could be the price of Redmi Note 8 and when it could be available in Europe? Posted: 18 Aug 2019 02:49 PM PDT I've been considering buying Redmi Note 7, but with the Note 8 coming out soon, I'm not sure what to do. If the starting price would be too high or I'd have to wait for too long, I'd settle for Note 7. [link] [comments] |
A warning about the Mi A2 - (Potential New) Buyer Beware! Posted: 18 Aug 2019 06:27 PM PDT So, the Mi A2 was launched to much anticipation and fanfare, last year, and it offered some solid upgrades over it's predecessor, the Mi A1, Xiaomi's first device under their 'Android One' stable, which in turn, also did wonders to revive and restructure Google's languishing Android One program, which now continues to flourish and thrive, with several OEMs signing up and releasing excellent mid to upper-midrange, and even flagship devices, under the banner. However, the Mi A2 also offered several compromises in terms of a missing headphone jack, and a smaller battery capacity, owing to it's slim profile (and the fact that it was, for all intents and purposes, a rebranded Xiaomi 6x). Having used several units (<4) over the past one year, mostly as stop-gap options, between flagships, and as secondary, 'burner phones', I can vouch that while the device itself *was* excellent value for money, especially in terms of a Project Treble enabled device, which offered a stock Android experience, and very good cameras upon launch, which continue to perform admirably to this day, albeit with some caveats, I would not recommend it to potential buyers, a year later, even with Xiaomi having slashed the prices significantly. My reasons for this being, notwithstanding the plethora of (most non-dealbreaking) bugs each upgrade brings with it, the fact that there are simply better devices, with better cameras, higher battery capacities, better SoCs, offering better performance and most important of all, *excellent* DEV support, being more widely available. I can list them, but you probably know all about them already. The Redmi Note 7/7 'Pro'. Redmi K20|K20 Pro (AKA Mi 9T/9T Pro). The still going strong into the second year of it's launch and giving newer devices a run for their money, the (now) legendary Pocophone F1 (DXOmark score of 91!). One could argue that there's Gcam. And sure, there is. Except enabling camera2api on this device, especially after installing the latest OS/security updates is a nightmare. And even if you manage to persevere and do so, the available ports do not play well with this device, which has also being largely abandoned by developers in favour of arguably better, newer devices. The developer for Pixel experience ROM has abandoned the device. Havoc is bug fest, and even the usually tried and trusted Lineage OS is available as a 'beta' download. You CAN still use the device with the stock OS that it ships with, and you should be fine for the most part. Just know that while the stock camera's day-light performance is pretty decent, especially for stationary objects, the low-light performance is severely crippled (there's an image comparison on XDA showcasing images shot with a now four year old Redmi Note 3, which turned out better, under indoor, artificial lighting). If you can live with an average battery life, a camera which renders pictures which require extensive post processing, especially for low-light & night shots, even when shooting urban scapes, and do not mind the finicky DEV support, go for it. However, you'd do so much better with one of the newer devices under Xiaomi's excellent portfolio. Obligatory apologies for the long wall of text. I felt I needed to post this as a sort of 'buyer beware' for potential new buyers, especially with Xiaomi's slashed prices. This is just one of those Xiaomi devices which did not, and quite possibly won't get a lot of DEV love. Cheers! [link] [comments] |

What's the icon besides the clock? [Mi 9T] Posted: 18 Aug 2019 07:23 PM PDT http://imgur.com/gallery/THNsdNZ I recently bought the Xiaomi Mi 9T and I've been tinkering with it to my liking, and it's been great so far. The only issue for now is the notification besides the clock recently came up but nothing appears when I slide down the notification tray. Does anyone have any idea what app is that? I've already debloated most of the Xiaomi apps, so if I can find this one I'll probably delete it too. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Aug 2019 06:44 PM PDT Is someone else having a problem when trying to download the new update? It won't download on my phone. I already checked my internet twice and rebooted the device but an error message still appears everytime. It won't pass the 0% and it says to try again later. [link] [comments] |
Mi A2 camera making noise when switching away from camera app Posted: 18 Aug 2019 06:05 AM PDT Whenever I close or switch away from any app that uses the camera, I hear a "tchk" sound from the camera hardware. It's strated happening very recently and I haven't dropped the phone or anything in the meantime. Anyone else with this issue? Any idea how it's caused? It's the 6 GB version if that's relevant [link] [comments] |
What is the effective range of the IR blaster in Xiaomi phones? Are they good enough. Posted: 18 Aug 2019 12:02 PM PDT Since IR blasters seems to be a dying breed and it seems like mostly Chinese manufacturers still keep them around. I was wondering if they are good enough to replace a standard IR remote, if they have a decent range, if they have issues etc.... [link] [comments] |
What is your experience with AOSP ROMs on recent Xiaomi phones, compared to MIUI? Posted: 18 Aug 2019 04:21 AM PDT Hello /r/Xiaomi, I always end up flashing AOSP ROMs on my phones since I use them long after the official support is gone. Not a fan of MIUI either. As I'm currently considering to upgrade to a Mi 9T, I am curious mainly about battery life and camera performance. Usually, phones get more SOT on an AOSP ROM but camera quality is worse. Do phones that ship with stock android (Like the A2 lite) have the same issues ? I'm also interested if the phones have any hardware fuses to prevent flashing unsigned ROMs. I read about needing an authorised account to unbrick your phone but the information is kind of vague and I'd love if someone could clarify that for me. Thanks for your time! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Aug 2019 07:46 AM PDT Which one is the best overall? Can anyone tell their experience about these? Are the camera's better on the Mi A3? I love that the A3 has an OLED display but the 720p resolution makes me doubt if it'll be worth it. Also Android One is great. The price difference is only around 50€ here with the Note 7 being the cheapest. Is the fingerprint scanner of the Mi A3 acceptable in terms of speed? Or is it really sloww?! I've heard also MIUI has a lot of ads (on the Note 7)? Is it really problematic or not? Can u turn it off? I only browse websites, use a quite few apps and only one game (for now). Next to that I do want a pretty good camera, but it doesnt need to be the best. [link] [comments] |
