Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:32 AM PDT Hello, i recently upgraded my PC to a 3700x, 16gb 3200mhz ram and a gigabyte x570 gaming x mobo. But now a few problems have occured. 1. My ram is apparently running at 2133mhz and not 3200mhz, so i tried to enable XMP as i read on various forums, but when i enable the XMP in bios my pc bluescreen. Any ideas on how to fix this? I didn't change any voltages or anything like that, i only enabled the XMP profile. I also heard i might need to upgrade my bios for this,i've currently got version F3 and there are newer versions, should i upgrade? Since it seems sort of risky to do so, but if it fixes the problem i might just do it. 2. My CPU is idle at 50-60degrees and under laod around 80. Any tips on how to fix this, i havn't OC'd it or anything. And i'm using the stock cooler. Or is this just a case of "to bad cpu cooler". Also i've read something about a chipset driver here, how do i check my version i've got now and could that be a solution? I'm not a "tech guy" by any means, so all help is appriciated. Kind Regards [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Aug 2019 01:50 AM PDT I want to replace the Realtek(R) Audio drivers with the Realtek HD Audio drivers, but I cant. When I first tried to install them some errors started popping up but I found out that you have to uninstall the Realtek(R) audio drivers first and then install the new ones. With that out of the way I thought it might finally work but no, now when I install the new drivers it doesn't actually install them, and when my laptop finishes rebooting it automatically reinstalls the Realtek(R) Audio drivers. I tried tips I found on forums, like disconnecting from the internet or disabling the automatic downloading of manufacturers' apps but none of it works. I must have restarted my computer like 10 times now, please help [link] [comments] |
External hard drive can't be accessed: I dont want to make things worse... Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:35 AM PDT Hello everyone, my parent's external hard drive has stopped working. Trying to open it in Windows 10 leads to the error message (translated by me from german): Path not available. E:\ cannot be accessed. The file or directory is damaged and cannot be read. I searched online for solutions and I found a video that seems to solve this exact problem by running chkdsk /f on the drive. In the case of the video, this restored access to the hard drive without deleting files. Now there are files on that hard drive that are of big sentimental value to my parents and I want to make absolutely sure that I don't delete any of those so I'm asking here if running chkdsk is the right step and if there is a risk of permanently losing the files when doing so. I searched this sub and googled the question and could not really find reliable answers regarding the results that can come out of a chkdsk command. Is permanent loss of the files possible? if yes, I would consider giving the hard drive to a specialist for recovery, but if chkdsk (or other steps you know of) is safe, I would like to save the money and do it myself. Thank you very much for any information regarding the topic! [link] [comments] |

Locked in MB logo after windows 10 update Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:08 AM PDT Hello, i have this absolutely infuriating problem since the windows update i did on Sunday. Everything was fine and i shut down my PC with the "update and shut down" option. Next day i try to turn it on and it just stays on the Asus logo forever, does not take any commands from the keyboard which means i can't even force it to do anything. It looks like it doesn't recognize the keyboard even though it is powered up. Tried multiple keyboards with no luck. Reset bios, disconnected all USB devices and left the machine with only the keyboard and the main ssd drive but still not working. I am desperate and can't seem to find a proper solution. I know that the windows 10 update is to blame but now what can i do? What are my options? Asus p8p67 Intel i5-2500k Ram 4GB x 2 = 8GB Gtx 960 Msi gaming 4gb Samsung 840 EVO 256GB [link] [comments] |
My computer keeps turning my microphone on. How to stop this? Posted: 20 Aug 2019 01:38 AM PDT I use the Bose QuietComfort 35 II. When I play a video or watch Netflix, the microphone turns on. When the microphone is on, on the Bose QC 35 II, it sounds kinda weird, but it's fine for calls. And I don't want this weird noise, when I watch YouTube, Netflix or something else. I have tried to turn the microphone off in the Windows privacy settings, however, it still turns on. This only happens with Bluetooth. Does anybody have a solution to this?? I appreciate all suggestions :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Aug 2019 02:24 AM PDT Sorry of I'm breaking any rules by posting about Facebook but there's nowhere else to ask. So I was logged out of Messenger and was prompted to enter my phone number when logging back in. I typed in my number and it didn't send me a code a couple times and the last time I did it it just says: "It looks like you were misusing this feature by going to quickly, you've been blocked from using it. Please check the help desk for help on blocks" How am I meant to fix the issue if I can't log in or type in a phone number. I figured out how to type it properly btw, just can't type it in now. My computer won't stop turning off and on again. Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:53 PM PDT I have a 6-7 year old custom built computer. Last year it broke down and wasn't able to switch on. This weekend I have had the time to take it to a repair shop where they found the cause of the problem (the PSU was fried) I replaced the PSU and was able to set it up last night. I left it running for the entire night and in the morning got a notification asking me to restart my computer for a download. It shut down and did not start back up again so I tried to manually. What happened was the computer tried to start up but then shut down again after 5-10 seconds and kept on repeating this. After that my new screen that I bought no longer showed anything so I could not access BIOS or anything. Is there anyway I can get my computer too stay on after starting up? [link] [comments] |

Possibly fried audio output section on ASUS laptop motherboard Posted: 20 Aug 2019 05:07 AM PDT In a quite brutal electrical accident I've supplied my laptop 3.5mm audio output with around 30 VDC and the audio output was fried. Although only one side of the stereo was connected to the high voltage, both sides seem to output a permanent 4 VDC when not idle, but lack any signal whatsoever. I highly suspect that most of the components inside laptops are not rated for more than 6.3 V (especially the audio section) and maybe if I open it I'll actually see a burnt resistor or something, and I know this problem might be a rare one, but any help before surgery is welcome. Posted: 20 Aug 2019 05:04 AM PDT Hello there! I was looking forward into upgrading my current GPU an ASUS R9 380 Strix 2GB. As I was reviewing my options I came across 3 possible graphics card that I may upgrade to: Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ 8GB ($213) , GIGABYTE GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB ($329) and the Sapphire Radeon Vega 56 PULSE ($328). The thing is I don't want to get a graphics card now and have to upgrade to a new one in 3-4 years already. That's the main reason I'm not really sure if I want to buy the RX 580. I know it has a great price and offers great 1080p performance but let's say 3-4 years from now I don't know if it will perform this good, considering the 5700 XT's that just came out. That's why I'm stuck rn between the GTX 1660 TI and the Vega 56. Since I am and AMD fan I'm more inclined to buy the Vega 56 since it out-performs the GTX 1660 Ti. But here comes the problems. From what I read the Vega pulls some pretty high numbers in terms of power. I saw that you can fix this problem and also lower the temperatures and increase performance by undervolting the GPU. The thing is I'm not that great when it comes to overclocking or undervolting and stuff like this and for me, as a beginner, this stuff seem pretty scary. Also, I'm not quite sure if I have a good enough PSU (not in terms of power, but build quality). I will leave some of my specs down below and I hope you can give me some advices if I can run the Vega 56 without any problems and maybe leave some tips about the undervolting stuff. Also, keep in mind, that from whatever reasons since I built this PC I encountered some freezing isssues that are pretty annoying and happen constantly. Basically I run a game that requires a bit more juice and randomly the PC freezes with nothing working, some weird sound in the headphones (not even the hard drive LED won't blink anymore). The only choice I have is to press the shut down button until the computer shuts down. As I said this is completely random, let's say I play a game like GTA V for 3-4 hours and nothing happens then, the next day, I play the same game with the same settings for 30 minutes and it freezes. I thought that maybe by replacing the GPU and after that re-installing Windows may fix the problem. Also I'm considering the Vega 56 to be a bit over kill for the stuff I'm playing. PC Tools to Assist with Diagnosing Problems Posted: 20 Aug 2019 05:00 AM PDT I'm looking to understand what tools you use to help baseline performance, diagnose problems, troubleshoot issues, and ultimately assist you with the support of computers and laptops within your business. What I'm looking for is a tool that may help with diagnosing, or at least assisting with point me in the right direction, for issues that we experience within our environment that are either intermittent or just difficult to identify. I appreciate all responses. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Notebook suddenly burnt out, I'm trying to guess the damage Posted: 20 Aug 2019 05:00 AM PDT It's a Lenovo Y520, I always told everyone how super amazing the cooling system is, I haven't seen something like that before. I bought this bad boy last april, and I'm guilty in never getting it cleaned, but I only used it from desk, with an external fan, very rarely travelled with it. Even these days it provided amazing performance and I never felt like it would be too heated up when I touched it, except for one time like a week ago, but it didn't seem to be much to worry about. So last night I was playing a game that doesn't require much performance, suddenly it just turns off. It was plugged in the whole time, definitely not the battery. Trying to turn on, keyboard lights up, nothing happens. I force shut it down. Trying to turn on again, absolutely no response. Machine is hated, burnt smell coming out of it, shit happens. Idk if the fans stopped because I had headphones on and couldn't hear them running, but that would be my wild guess. Same happened to my previous laptop once and the motherboard burnt out. But this booting issue looks like it could be CPU this time. I don't wanna open it up, it might still have warranty if I'm lucky. It should have but I just read the terms and it was written in very small letters that I should have registered the device somewhere after the first 30 days of purchasing, oups. Still hoping for the best but this was really out of nowhere, looks like the device doesn't even have a safety switch. In this case it may not even be worth it to pay a lot to get it fixed because it seems to be an unreliable notebook to me. Does anyone have an idea what happened? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:55 AM PDT Last year ago I bought a MSI GV62 7RD for the engineering ( also gaming ) , and about 6 months started going slow , really really slow , at first it was only when turning on the laptop , but now it slows down with everything I make , and of course the temperature goes high as hell . I cleaned out every program and reinstalled everything, but a friend told me is going slow because I have everything on the hard disk ( sorry for bad English ), I tried to search what ssd is needed for this MSI series but I did not understand anything of it , can someone help me what ssd I should buy or if I can even fit some ssd on my MSI ? Is my GPU broken if so how will I diagnose it ? Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:52 AM PDT Specs : GTX 1050ti/ G4400 After adding a 1050ti to my worked pc (which had a 1030 previously) it started showing worse performance I figured it was because it was bottlenecking some games didn't even run which used to run when I had a 1030. So recently I was playing some Call of Duty 1 and the game closed showing an error and then MSI after burner and riverturner showed up with errors and my screen went completely black, I rebooted the system thrice and the first 2 times it didn't even make it past the bios screen then it went into repair mode. Everything seemed normal after that other than my GPU not working it fixed itself but now I have another issue my screen seems to go black at random times and doesn't come back on. (I checked my monitor it's completely fine). Also I was planning on getting a Ryzen 3rd Gen that's why I stuck with my G4400. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:52 AM PDT I'm still struggling between AMD and Intel with my new CPU. One main aspect surely is PCI-E 4.0 support from AMD boards. If I were to buy an Intel board with "just" 3.0, would a 4.0 gpu work on it (or have any disadvantages)? [link] [comments] |
How to open Atom Text Editor from Command Line? Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:48 AM PDT I'm working with a Dell Laptop running Windows 10. I've also downloaded Anaconda, which the command prompt I usually use. I remember previously being able to open Atom to the current directory within the command prompt by simply typing in "atom", but now I get a "no internal/external" message (I had to semi-reset my computer for various reasons). I've tried uninstalling Atom to download again and try to modify it upon install, but it just loads everything back as it was before--UI and all--so I'm at a loss for what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Weird Framerate Dips after case move, no heat issue Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:31 AM PDT Hi all, I have an issue that is driving me nuts and no thread so far answered my question, but the common denominator seems to be AMD CPUs, so here we go: I have recently moved my rig to a new case (more room) System specs: Ryzen 7 2700X Bequiet Silent Loop MSI Gaming Pro x470 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (3000), currently running on second XMP profile at 2977 Be quiet Dark Base 850 Watts EVGA 1080 Ti SC Hybrid I have also reinstalled Win10 after the move, because I switched from a Gigabyte to the MSI Board half a year ago and thought it would make sense (manufacturer change and all - it still ran fine though, the issue appeared after the move and reinstall, not after switching out the Mainboard) Anyway, no matter which game I run, I get weird FPS dips. Everything is running smooth at 60fps, no heat issues, then fps nosedive to about 20fps, game skips a beat or two then everything is back to normal. I have lowered res to 1080p, same thing 140+fps, followed by a massive drop, all fine again. And the issue seems to get worse the longer I am ingame. Mild stutters to one or two second lags after an hour. Also, I had the feeling that it happens a lot during autosaves. Only change to the setup itself was removing the GPU once to move the system to the new case and me tightening the screws of the CPU-AiO by half a turn. Things I have done: - moved game from ssd to m.2 because the ssds sit close to the gpu radiator, and it might overheat the ssds, same issue - lost my mind - tried different games. same same - uninstalled precision x1 - installed and uninstalled msi afterburner - tossed a bunch of background processes - killed all win10 spy processes Thoughts: - the tubes of the gpu cooler are a little taut, but I don't think it is pulling the card out of the pcie slot - power fluctuations in the psu Anyone else have an idea what it might be? I don't feel like yanking the PSU because all the cables are nice right now. Some for the radiator. Almost forgot: - MemTest was clean - Temps under load for the CPU 50-55 Cs - Temps under load for the GPU 50-52 Cs - according to the Precision X1 overlay, core frequency of the GPU did not drop, stayed at 1950ish when drops occurred - No OC on CPU or GPU Thanks y'all! LED on charger goes off when plugged into laptop Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:31 AM PDT I have an acer v3-572g and its basically dead. I tried my old acer charger and the charger led was blinking when plugged into the laptop but no lights on the laptop itself. Then i got a brand new charger and tried that and then the led went completely off. I've tried isolating just the board and the ac adapter and the laptop is dead and the charger led is still off. I also checked for corrosion and there doesn't seem to be any so i think my motherboard is dead [link] [comments] |
Windows 7 laptop not starting, F8 startup options don't work Posted: 20 Aug 2019 04:26 AM PDT I have an old acer aspire 5750g i3 Windows 7 laptop that's been acting a little funny for a while but now just won't start. The initial Acer screen shows, but then just goes to a black screen. Can get into the bios but holding F8 won't give me the usual startup options. So far I have tried to use a chromeOS USB drive to sort of get in and could still read the hard disk (managed to recover a few essential files at least). I have also tried to download a Windows 7 iso on my Windows 10 desktop (no optical drive in it tho) to put on the USB drive but as Windows 7 was pre installed (OEM?) Microsoft won't let me download from the site. Tried a less legitimate source, still a black screen on startup (not sure it was Windows 7 Home Premium but maybe another version) In my faffing with the USB drive it's now fucked and stuck in read only and I can't seem to fix that or I'd just go back to using the laptop as a chrome thing. At least it would have some use then. Anyone have any ideas? Would appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |
