    Neighbors constantly hacking router

    Posted: 15 Aug 2019 03:51 PM PDT

Edit: Thanks for the input, folks. I will still accept all other ideas anyone else has on the subject. You have given me some things to think about that may help with the situation. This issue has not been "solved" as the core issue is still unknown, however I will mark this issue as solved for the time being since it's unlikely to be resolved without providing more information I'd prefer not to share.

    Hello folks.

As the title says, my neighbors are constantly hacking my router to get free wifi and also it appears potentially doing malicious things as well. No matter what I do, they seem to find a way back in.

I came back from a trip to find that for the past few weeks they had been going hog wild on my internet. Dos attacks against my router, and constantly connecting from a strange internet IP that did not match my DHCP settings. They also had numerous devices approved in my Mac filtering list. I have also noticed my computer acting strangely on occasion, which often begins after I change passwords. The anti-malware procedures in the stickied thread on this subreddit did not find anything on the numerous times I've done it.

    What I have tried:
    - Mac filtering
    - [VERY] strong and random passwords for wifi and to get into router that I change regularly
    - Changed router to a nonstandard IP
    - Turned off WPS
    - Maybe a thing or two I am forgetting

It's extremely obvious they are very tech savvy, and have access to sophisticated hacking programs. After I change passwords and whatnot, there is typically a period of time where they don't get in. This has been going on for about a year. It's a constant battle between them and myself.

What can I do to keep them out for good? Should I get the police involved? What could they even do if I did?

Dell laptop freezes before motherboard logo

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:31 AM PDT

Greetings everybody, I'm experiencing a very unpleasant problem with my Dell Latitude e6430 (i5, windows 10, 4gb ram; maily used connected to a docking station, but undocked is just the same): half the time I power on my laptop, it freezes immediately. I hear the sound of the fan starting up but the screen stays black, not even the DELL splash screen comes out.

Usually when this happens I have to power off (pressing the power button; not holding, one little pressing is enough), I hear the fan rolling again and the pc shuts down. It's getting really annoying because there are times when I have to shut down the pc three or four times before it starts up regularly.

Does anybody know what's going on? I fear the main culprit could be the motherboard, but I would like to hear someone with more expertise than me. I was ready to upgrade the pc with more RAM and an SSD, but now I'm not so sure.

    Thanks!

Dell Studio 1749 Has trouble starting

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:03 AM PDT

I have a nine year old Dell Studio 1749 running Windows 7. It regularly has trouble booting up. I press the on switch, the fan kicks into gear for a few seconds, but then switches off before anything appears on the screen. It can take sometimes 10 attempts before it switches on, and boots up as normal.

Other times when I use it, it occasionally suddenly cuts out, which I assume it overheating. I don't know if these two problems are related. The first one happens even when it's starting from cold.

Is there anything I can do to try and diagnose what's specifically causing this problem?

    PSN potential virus email?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 12:18 AM PDT

I received an email this morning about a PSN account password change. I panicked as I thought an abusive person from my past was trying to get into my account. However I haven't used PS for years. So I forget a lot. The email seemed super legit and the web address was the same as the first 3 Google's results.

I used a seperate link ID to change my password and reset it and my security question both to something random.

However, I just went to check what info was on my profile, and I don't even have one with this email. At all, it basically asked me to create an address and a PSN ID etc.

Now I'm shitting myself incase I have just given myself and info unto the virus etc.

I'm crap with this stuff so can anyone help or offer guidance?

CSGO and my computer completely just bugged out

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:46 AM PDT

Hello! So within the last hour I have closed down CSGO twice, and when clicking back in I instantly get a black screen where it says "input not supported" so I end up restarting the pc and starting the game back up, however since it happened twice I decided to switch the resolution on my screen before starting the game up, so I switched my pc screen resolution to the same resolution i play in game, which is 1280 x 960, after I did that I ended up with black bars ingame and the rest of all my game settings completely reset back to default...

After clicking back out of the game, switching original screen res back to 1920 x 1080 which it originally was, then I clicked back ingame and I had to re-do all my settings ingame, for some reason like I said, literally everything was just reset back to default out of nowhere, including my crosshair. Now after everything is back to normal in terms of the settings, something still feels completely off ingame, because my mouse is moving way faster than it's supposed to even though all settings are 100% correct, now I also noticed that ouside the game my mouse seems to be moving rather slow, not slow in terms of the dpi being lower or anything, but slow as in like fps being low, laggy wouldn't even be the correct word for it, so I am guessing something ended up happening with the cursor which is causing me to have issues ingame as well as outside.

    Using Zowie fk2 btw. Thx

Creating a imput source from 2 different microphone, need help

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:42 AM PDT

I want to create a Micro that includes both my blue yeti and the headsed wireless mic i have always disabled, it would be usefull to use it only on Discord to talk with my friends only on discord, but I still want to keep using only the Blue Yeti for the streaming.

Obv if there is no way to change it i can use it as main imput source in every use of my pc, but if we can dodge that bullet I would be grate because will be hard to re-set another time everything i setted on the Blue Yeti mic

I tried to create something on Voiceover banana but if I use one of the Microphone Imput created by it, it doesn't capture my voice on Discord, that's not working.

That's the configuration I did, if it's right, tell me what i'm still missing please.

    New ryzen build headache

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:25 AM PDT

So yesterday I've finally built my new music production workstation pc but I'm dealing with a lot of weird instability.

Specs: Ryzen 9 3900x Gigabyte aorus elite x570 Corsair vengeance lpx 32gb 3200mhz (dual channel) Rtx2060 Samsung Evo nvme Sata Samsung SSD Noctua nh-u12a

Symptoms: 1. Installing any drivers from manufacturers causing bsod after logon. Had this after installing appcenter, AMD chipset drivers and Nvidia (those even gave weird artifacts when triggering bsod on second monitor) Problem went away after reinstalling windows but still not trusting installing the latest drivers again.

    1. CPU fan ramping up randomly and high idle temps in the 50s.

    2. Mouse and keyboard got disconnected after booting into windows. It was turning off and on again and again and finally it did or didn't work. Just very unstable.

    3. XMP just doesn't work at all. All I get are 3 beeps and the BIOS resets itself.

Running Windows memory check right now and currently away while it's running so will see if it is just bad memory. But for now I'd like some advice or maybe other people are dealing with one of these problems.

    Cheers

Laptop num lock continually triggering in background. Keyboard or motherboard issue?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:25 AM PDT

My Acer laptop is currently facing an issue where the num lock just keeps triggering in the background, which I suspect is the cause of other issues like keys occasionally not registering or getting stuck.

I say it triggers in the background because the effect is only visible when I open the on screen keyboard, where I see it trigger like 10 times or so per second. On the physical keyboard (both physical and USB) the num lock functions fine, pressing the num lock button toggles the num lock fine

I have tried disabling the num lock key with a 3rd party program, it works fine physically but the issue still occurs in the on screen keyboard. Have also tried formatting the PC as well in case it is a software issue but no joy as well.

Anyone have any clue what could be the cause? It's getting irritating having to backtrack on my typing constantly, and working remotely is basically impossible as cmd takes multiple key presses to register each key entry.

I have trouble simply installing Windows

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:23 AM PDT

I want to install Windows 10 on my PC by using a USB drive. I used the Windows Media Creation Tool to get the files. The reason why I want a Windows install is that my PC crashed and left the old Windows files corrupt. This meant that I could not wipe the drives. With the USB i have managed to wipe the drives clean.

Now all I need is Windows on my PC. The problem is when it is done installing it crashes. And when the PC boots back up the thing is corrupt again. I happens somewhere between setting up Windows 10 and the desktop. Yes, I made as far as seeing the Windows desktop, yet it still crashed.

This happens on both my drives. I try to install Windows on the kingston SSD, it crashes and corrupts. I try to install on my Western Digital harddrive it crashes and corrupts.

I have also tried the repair options from both the emergency enviroment and my USB. Neither works.

If someone could give me an idea to what is wrong or which potentially brokeb component inside the PC that is causing this, then I would be very happy.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: When it crashes during Windows setup. The screen makes a glitchy blink, then blackscreen for 25 seconds. Then it reboots on its own and goes into an infinite reboot loop

Edit 2: https://imgur.com/gallery/U1EZzAB This picture is after it just crashed the Windows setup on my harddrive. The same happens on the ssd. It says that "Windows was not loaded correctly" as if the install was finished and then corrupted

Vodafone GigaCube on 4G misbehaving when not on VPN

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:57 AM PDT

Moved to a new flat in London and there's still no fiberoptic broadband here so rather than going down the copper DSL route which results in abysmal up-speeds I thought I'd be clever and get a mobile hub.

I got the 5G gigacube from Vodafone which offers "unlimited" data for £50 per month. This is a lot but I figured would be worth it even if I could only access 4G in my area (for the time being).

The GigaCube is made by Huawei which does make me nervous and I was probably going to look into a hardware vpn solution at some point. (should this be a legitimate concern?)

But, more to the point, I've noticed speeds flying all over the place and it's definitely doing something funny when serving up particular content. For instance, I was on AliBaba in Safari just now and it loaded the page but none of the images. I switched on my VPN and, lo and behold, all the images loaded.

Whenever it seems to slow down or stop I turn on the vpn and *seems* to make everything fine again.

My question is: is there a setting on the GigaCube that I should be looking at tweaking? Has anyone had any experience with the GigaCube? Should I be concerned about a Huawei object in my house? I don't want to keep the VPN on all the time because it (obviously) slows down the internet and means I have to swap servers when I want to do p2p etc.

The speeds seem to be unreliable; sometimes a website loads immediately, sometimes it takes forever or requires a reload. Perhaps I should cancel and go for cable or another mobile hub but this seemed to be the only one to offer unlimited.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise.

Constant rebooting after coming back from vacation

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:26 AM PDT

A couple weeks ago I came back from the beach. After 10 days of being shut down, I booted up my PC and the W10 expired license warning popped up. I had relatively recently changed OS and formatted my HDD and SSD. The technician that installed the OS didn't tell me how it was a company copy of the product, or anything else for that matter, and he had just gone on vacation.

The PC started violently restarting, shutting down at random intervals. Most of the time it can't even get to the Windows boot screen, it will shut down as if the current had been just cut off, and then try to start up again. I once got to the Desktop screen, and then it shut down again.

I got a couple vids showing the whole process, but I don't know how this works yet, I made an account just for this.

Looking it up online, I've seen people talk about memory cards, RAM errors, corrupted BIOS, corrupted OS, broken Power Source, literally everything, and I really have no idea how to go about this.

The technician won't answer our calls (he's already back from vacation), and hasn't come whenever he said he would. I'm sorry this has to be my first post in the Reddit community, but I'm desperate, been surviving using my PS4 to watch series and YouTube and all that, but I really would like my PC back.

    Thank you beforehand.

Why does my GPU not show up in the device manager?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2019 03:22 AM PDT

    Hey!

I have a signal from one of the DisplayPort connectors of my GPU but it won't show up in the device manager and neither does in the task manager.

I'm using my RX 5700 XT Anniversary Edition with a waterblock on it, and a PCIe extender. The rest of my system-components are: Ryzen 7 3700x 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB ASUS X570-E 970 Evo Plus 500GB

Is it possible that I've killed my GPU while installing the waterblock? Or is it something different? The driver won't detect hardware neither...

    Thanks in advance!!
