I need a new laptop - 16GB RAM / i7 proccesor! Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:16 AM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** I don't necessarily want to spend near €1500, but if I must I would consider it (living in the Netherlands). * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I think a good battery life is important, but if a laptop with better specifications and a slightly worse battery life costs the same as a laptop with slightly worse specifications and a better battery life, I would go for the first. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I am going to use this laptop mainly for study, so I think weight and thinness are important, but as I said above specifcations are more decisive. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows, since the MacBooks with my 'demands' are too expensive! * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 14 - 15,6" * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** No, but I like the specs of these kind of laptops haha. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** - * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** 16GB RAM, i7 processor of the 8th or 9th generation, good keyboard, touch screen not necessary. My knowledge is not big enough to say something about the rest of the sepcifications, so I hope some of you could help me with that. I hope I made myself clear. In the meantime I will surf the web to learn more about these remaining specifications. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

£550 budget UK college/gaming laptop Posted: 17 Aug 2019 03:25 AM PDT
Storage is not that important if I'm able to easily buy a SSD/HDD after purchase. Good battery life would be nice :)
Thanks for taking your time to read/reply, much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
I need help deciding between two laptops, links inside. Posted: 16 Aug 2019 11:38 PM PDT OR My goal is to have a well performing, but discreet looking laptop, which I would use to do some gaming, but mostly for productivity. These are two of the best that I've found in this price range. I'm not an expert however, so if anyone could take a closer look at these, I'd appreciate it. [link] [comments] |

Do I need a laptop? Looking for advice Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:47 PM PDT This is my situation: • I now have an old mac laptop from 2010. It has been repaired some times and it still works, but it is definitely not powerful enough for what I want to do. It would need some repair, but it does have a 1TB SSD that maybe can be reused. • I would like to buy a new computer, that can handle both games and large databases. Below my ideas in the form required. • I am not convinced that a desktop computer would be the best option. On one side, I'd like the mobility of a laptop. On the other, there's budget constraints and less performance for laptops. Plus, I read that laptops are harder to repair in case they break. • I can buy a laptop in the US at the end of this month, but I am only there for a short time. The options I am looking at are:
What is your more experienced opinion? Here's the form Total budget and country of purchase: 1300 EUR (1450 USD) – either Belgium or US Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. No major needs, but I would prefer if it did not look like a gaming laptop (no LEDs and stuff like that) How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all, can be bulky or heavy. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15 inches or plus Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Not yet but I'd like to start gaming. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Games I'd like to try: Red Dead Redemption 2 TW Warhammer I do not know enough but I guess medium settings and 60 fps would be fine. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices. As I would use the laptop for work too, it's probable I will spend a lot of hours in front of it. So it is better if the screen is comfortable (Flickerfree + Blue light?) Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Many thanks! [link] [comments] |
Laptop for photo and video editing (professional)- Dell 7590 or? Posted: 17 Aug 2019 02:22 AM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** 2600-3000€ Italy * Do you have any alternative? What do you suggest? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Aug 2019 02:48 PM PDT I have settled upon these 4 laptops. They all have comparable specs. I will be using my laptop for programming, so I care about battery life, keyboard, and comfortable display. Which of these computers should I get? [link] [comments] |

Looking for a good 2-in-1 laptop, ~1000$ CAD Posted: 17 Aug 2019 01:53 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: 1000$ +-250$, Canada Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2-in-1 and a good battery life are most important. How important is weight and thinness to you? Somewhat, as I will be commuting with this laptop and can't have lots of extra weight on me. Thinness is not a worry. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" max, although I'm prioritizing smaller 14" or 13" screens. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some coding, and light if any gaming. Intended to be a personal use laptop / school laptop. Programs such as OneNote and Chrome would be my most used. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? The most I'll run on it is something lowkey like Stardew Valley, so this is a non-issue. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Touchscreen is what I'm mostly looking for, but good quality would be welcome too, as I want to keep this laptop around for a while. SSD is definitely a plus too as ideally it can start up fast. A decent wifi card too would be best, seeing as I'll be on campus wifi for a majority of my time with it. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Something like the Yoga 730 13" is super close, but I'm wary because of the screen flicker stories and squealing from the fans, among other quality control issues. I'm also wary of 15" screens due to wanting to use it in class, and don't want to be a distraction. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2019 01:42 AM PDT $400 USA specs not really does not matter i can reformat 17" I play league and do light video editing on premiere i play league and max settings
I bought the y70-70 on reddit a few years back and its been a good workhorse. unfortunately the e key is extremely hard to use and the 3 key above the letters doesnt work at all. this is extremely inconvenient for typing and gaming. maybe i just grab another y70-70? but would like to hear your thoughts first. Looking for a good laptop for software engineering, $1500+ CAD Posted: 16 Aug 2019 07:30 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: $1500+, Canada Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best Specs How important is weight and thinness to you? Minimal Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. As large as available Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Primarily for coding/programming/IT. Light gaming, as it will be a personal use laptop, and I spend ~12 hours a week in the hospital for treatments. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'll play everything, but it's not a priority. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? None really, a good keyboard, HDMI outs, and a solid build would all be nice. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Thanks for taking the time to help! I'm looking for a laptop that I'll be able to code with. Lots of RAM and an SSD if possible, and a decent size screen, since I'll be using it for entertainment when I'm in the hospital as well. Basically looking for the best bang for my buck. Posted: 17 Aug 2019 12:49 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: My budget is <$1500, and I'm in the US Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply: I prefer best specifications for the money. How important is weight and thinness to you?: Not very important. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.: I most prefer Windows, but am willing to try anything else but a Mac. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.: Bigger the better, for gaming. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.: I will mostly only be using Microsoft office for my work and gaming. Gaming will be what I use it for the most. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'm an amateur gamer at best, not much online play. I play mostly on Steam(half-Life, Crash, Riven, mostly childhood nostalgia is getting me back into gaming) and Origin (Sims4) Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I don't care for a touch screen at all, a wide keyboard would be preferred though. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.: My old Intel laptop died, I have decided to invest in an external hard rive (suggestions for those would be welcome) and get a laptop for gaming since that is what I used it for the most. My budget is flexible. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for CAD / Programming / Light Gaming / Simulations / Student suggestions/recommendations? Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:38 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: ~$2000 (+- $500 if reasonable)
I've eyed the Lenovo P53 for a while but cannot convince myself that I seriously need all of the specs (i9 - 9880H, RTX 4000 model). It's showing up to be roughly $2,500 for that unit. I've also looked into the Lenovo P1 and X1 Extreme. My experience with MSI laptops have so far been negative so i'd want to stay away. Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated! Acer Swift 3 Vs Thinkpad 330s vs Thinkpad t840 Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:13 PM PDT I need a laptop for school work (basic Microsoft office and MATLAB use. No video editing or gaming) and great battery life, which is portable enough. I don't prefer a touch screen laptop so no 2-in-1 preferably. I am comfortable with any weight or dimension. Preferably a windows laptop but if needed, mac is also okay. I would like a good amount of storage( 512GB or 1TB) I shortlisted the choice to these 2 laptops Acer: There is an amazing deal on Amazon right now in which I get 1TB SSD with i7 for under $800. This seems too good to be true so I am sceptical of it Thinkpad 330s: This happens to be a great deal too with 2TB hard drive and great specs. I am not able to decide between these 2 and am really confused. People also suggested t840 but I think spec-wise 330s is better [link] [comments] |
College student looking for portable, efficient laptop Posted: 16 Aug 2019 09:47 PM PDT
Budget: $1400 Country: USA
2 in 1 doesn't matter to me Good battery is essential Would be willing to spend a little more if better specs are available
Windows 10
15.6" would be the highest I could do
Very very light gaming--MX150 should be all that I need
N/A
Some type of HDMI port would be nice, also not necessary but a nice screen-to-body ratio (>85%) is something I like
I have been doing a little bit of looking myself and have been really intrigued on ASUS's zenbook line, specifically their UX431FN Any thoughts on that model? Thank you everyone! [link] [comments] |

Laptop suggestions with $1300 budget Posted: 16 Aug 2019 09:14 PM PDT So I am on the market for a laptop. Requirements: Great battery life. Minimum i5 latest gen if possible. Dedicated gpu mx150 or higher. Screen size: 15 preferred but 13 can do. Thin enough to carry across campus and for work but not like lg gram thin. Has to have 1 tb3 and a usb 3.0 or dongle added. I can go slim on ports. I just need tb3. Resolution: any above 1080p and below 4k. Weight has to be less than 4 pounds. And has to have either fingerprint or windows hello. Price $1200-$1300. I do a lot of coding and rendering 3D models and emulators.. I have looked some up like razer blade Stealth or Dell xps or acer swift 5. But other options were asus or Lenovo but I had bad experience with both in the past, about 8 years ago. It might have changed but I would like your opinion on other laptops I might have missed that is hitting the requirements. Thanks a lot! [link] [comments] |
