Hearing voice chat-like sounds through computer Posted: 16 Aug 2019 04:31 PM PDT Hello dear Redditors, i have been having problems with my computer for past year, but i never really payed any attention to them, until now. I had issues where mouse would randomly jump during usage, attributing this only to generic mouse jumpiness, more often, computer acting as if CTR or ALT or windows key was being pressed, this appearing completely randomly and apparently unrelated to any running software - i have read somewhere that windows 10 had some kind of this issue, and i could easily fix it with pressing both ctrl/alt/windows keys at the same time few times to relieve this, so i wasnt particularly concerned, even though i did a repair of windows once, which didnt help for long. However, what happend today, scared me somewhat, as i have never ever crossed path with anything similar. I have been watching youtube and chatting with a friend over steam, when i put my headphones on instead of speakers after months, and noticed strange sounds. I could clearly hear someone, as if over voice chat, not talking, just sitting at computer. I could hear keypresses, clicks and what sounded like someone drinking water and putting down the glass on wooden table. I first checked if my mic was disabled, then looked through playback devices, nothing looking like producing sound. At first i have writtent to friend over steam, to say something, thinking its some new steam chat feature or something, but i couldnt hear him say anything when he tried. Then i clearly heard someone receive a message on phone - three beeps of some kind, a pause, then a crackling click, like when you pull the speakers out of jack connector, and since then nothing. I have no other voice chat apps installed, like skype/discord/etc. I have my microphone always disabled unless i want to use it for something, but it was turned off for past few months. I have no other recording devices. The only thing i had turned on during this day was firefox, monster hunter world, and steam, but when the issue occured, only steam and firefox with youtube was running. So i panicked, blocked all internet access through firewall, restarted to safe boot, run: rkill adwcleaner hitmanpro malwarebytes scan nothing turned out except two tracking cookies in firefox, which i removed. Im basically clueless as google searches dont turn out anything useful for this issue. Any idea what can this be? Any advice on what i should try? Im running windows 10 I may provide additional information if neccessary. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. EDIT: Thanks everyone for answering, however, i am 99,9% sure this was not some kind of radio statio. I could literally hear someone sitting at his computer. The three beeps i heard, of message arriving, this wasnt the typical crack of the speaker coil receiving the signal - this was literall beep of message received sound on mobile phone. Unless i can receive someones bluetooth headphone microphone, which im positive i cant, this wasnt just a random transmission. This would not worry me so much, if there wasnt also issue of the pressed alt/ctr/windows logo keys randomly acting as if pressed. Because combined with this, i feel like someone could have remotely accessed my desktop and now he just randomly forgotten turning his mic off. [link] [comments] |
Someone started a process to replace all of the security info for the Microsoft account Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:10 AM PDT I got this email last night it's got me worried I changed the password and 2-step authentication on the account mentioned in the email, I didn't click the links in the email even though the address is the one Microsoft said they used, it's just the way it says "started" does that mean they are still going to get through or what? Creepy neighbour claims he can remote access our internet. Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:24 AM PDT A local creepy guy set up internet in a friends house. He claimed afterwards away from these friends that he could remote access their internet and disable it or monitor the traffic. I'm starting to believe him because on Snapchat the location is showing his house!! (Creepy guys house) is there anyone that can help me figure out of this is really happening? [link] [comments] |

How can I securely dispose of a phone that won’t switch on? Posted: 17 Aug 2019 03:57 AM PDT I dropped my phone down the toilet a while ago and it's fried and doesn't switch on. There's no point hanging onto it but I'm conscious all my personal stuff is still on there and not sure if it would be accessible to someone who knew how. What's the best way to dispose of this securely? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Aug 2019 02:10 AM PDT Morning all. I've got a pc build with a 650w power supply, running an i5 4690k, 16gb ram on a gigabyte GA z87 hd3. I also have a sapphire pulse rx560 that will not show up on this machine. The Rx 560 will work on other machines, and will run bench marks and is happy. This machine will run other graphics cards tried a gtx 660, gtx 560 and a quaddro k2000. All working with no issues. But as soon as I stick the rx560 back in, I get no display. I've tried: swapping power supply, clearing all graphics card drivers, using different PCI slots. The fans spin up, but that's it. I can't find any rhyme or reason. I've updated the bios on the motherboard from f6 to f8. The rx560 has connected once, as I've managed to install the drivers, then on reboot it was gone. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, I just can't figure out what's going on. [link] [comments] |
Apostrophes Have Abandoned Me. Posted: 16 Aug 2019 10:20 PM PDT Thats right, those little things you need for contractions. Quotes (") work fine, but when I let go of shift ...[apostrophes would be here] ... nothing. Ive googled this alot and given up- most of those threads say to change my keyboard from international to US, but its already English -US. Others pertain specifically to having to type apostrophes twice before they show up - mine dont show up at all. Holding Shift+Ctrl doesnt do it, and holding the key down wont do it. I do game dev as a hobby, and If I use unity and bind an event to the apostrophe key, it isnt detected. In addition, its not the keyboard - I own a razer keyboard, an alienware one, and 5 cheap wireless ones and it doesnt work on any of them. HOWEVER - the one case where apostrophes are detected, is in the console for The Elder Scrolls Skyrim. I accidentally typed an apostrophe there when I was trying to type a quotation mark, and all my roommates heard about it because I was so confused and happy. I just checked, and it is detected by this websites tester as well. Ive gone through all the results on the first and second page of google. Plz help, I need apostrophes to type essays on my desktop and write code that uses chars. If nobody can figure this out I might just use AHK to bind something less important to apostrophe. How can I share a vpn through an android hotspot? Posted: 16 Aug 2019 11:37 PM PDT I'm trying to set up a VPN for our home network and have run into a spot of bother. I'm definitely not as up to date as I used to be, and googling, searching, and app faqs and livechats have bought me here. I live in a beautiful part of the world with comical internet options. We are using a rooted s5 with a permanent hotspot toggled on for our internet. This services our samsung tv, 2 phones (although all data is pooled), a bathroom google mini, and a chromecast. I figured I could set up Nord VPN on the s5, and when everything connects to the hotspot, it would be shared. This is not the case and their tech support have confirmed that. I downloaded a few hotspot sharing apps and non seem to do what Im asking. Ive found VPN Hotspot (green key symbol), however I can't get it to work. Its root only, but the s5 is rooted. The faq and help is limited. Googling is all about using chromebooks or microsoft. Is there another way or another app to do this? I'd like to be able to turn on the vpn and then have all devices covered under its umbrella as they are connected through the hotspot. I'm not set on NordVPN, it was just a choice out of many. Also happy to pay for a decent service. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2019 01:24 AM PDT Hi! Is there a way if I can check if I have memory bottleneck with my pc? I have an i5-4460 3.2 ghz 4 core 4 thread CPU with 8GB of RAM (2x4 @1600mhz) and a Geforce GTX 960 4gb. I've done a couple of benchmarks in games, and almost every time my CPU is at really high (90-100%) usage, and my memory is in use for at least 7000MB. Under heavy load there are micro-stutters or complete freezes for a split second or even seconds. When these happen usually the monitoring software shows my CPU usage dropping to 0%. There are couple of times where the number and length of stutters increase with the length of the session. I can't determine if my CPU or my RAM is causing these performance issues. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Aug 2019 09:18 PM PDT So lately my pc in the past month has been running into some issues. The games will close randomly, crash, or the pc itself will just lock up until I push the reboot button. I've tested the ram and it's shown to have no issues. It's just figuring out if its GPU or CPU that's causing me issues. I've tried fresh format of both Linux and Windows same issue so it shouldn't be a driver issue. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks. Computer Specs1. OS: Windows 10 64 Bit / Linux POP OS 2. Video Card: MSI VEGA 56 8GB 3. x2 Western Digital WD VelociRaptor WD3000HLHX 300GB 10000 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 in Raid 0 4. ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard 5. Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge @ 4.5GHZ 6. Ram: G.SKILL Sniper 24 GB DDR3 Errors I remember having from previous format:One error I remember having from a blue screen was driver_irql_not_less_or_equal tcpip.sys (this was on my old format). Another one was "Bug Check 0x13A: Kernel_mode_heap_corruption" It also couldn't plug in an xbox controller on that format as it would basically cause crashes after i turned on driver verify. Things I have done to test:I reset TCP/IP as suggested by @freebaseftw Prime 95 test for about 3-4 minutes (I held it until the cores reached 90-95c). It is overclocked @ 4.5ghz using a water cooler/radiator combo. I've tried previously to stop the overclock and that did nothing so its not that the power from that is doing anything. I'm thinking it's not the CPU? I could be wrong but from this information it seems that way. I reinstalled windows and Linux on separate hard-drives that were once in Raid0. Both systems are having the same issue (games freezing, some programs crashing). So it shouldn't be the harddrive. Did both windows memtest and linux memtest via this https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-test-the-ram-on-linux. Both had 0 errors. I've done https://benchmark.unigine.com/heaven test for gpu, but it's not exactly that intensive anymore even on high so I'm not sure that narrows it out. [link] [comments] |
Latest Win10 Update Deleted my Boot Files? Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:43 AM PDT I like to think of myself as a pretty technically oriented person, but I am at a loss on this one so please bear with me: About a year ago I installed an SSD in my PC and migrated my boot files over to it (back when it was still Win7). Some time last night my (since then upgraded to Win10 PC) autorestarted to apply an update and when I got up this morning it was booting from that previous partition on the HDD from a year ago. I checked the partition manager and got this: https://i.imgur.com/QhAc5Vq.png Disk 0 is just a 500GB SSD with files on it, nothing to see there. Disk 1 is the 120GB SSD boot drive with my Win10 that was working fine yesterday. Disk 2 is the 2TB HDD that apparently I left the bootable Win7 on from a year ago. Disk 1 still has the EFI System Partition, but it doesn't say "Boot" like Disk 2. I assume thats why my BIOS says there is no bootable drive when I try to boot from it? I tried to use some 3rd party partition recovery software and it found nothing, but are there really any missing partitions? Its like it just lost the boot tag? Can I regenerate the boot files and tell my PC its a bootable drive again? All the other files are still on the drive, ready to go. [link] [comments] |
Computer boots up or wakes up from sleep randomly. Posted: 17 Aug 2019 12:56 AM PDT No one responded so I am posting second time. Wake up on internet is disabled but computer always boots up after 5 or 6 hour. When I try to sleep my computer it only sleeps for 2 to 9 seconds. Could someone help me determine what is causing the bad performance on my gaming PC? Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:38 AM PDT Hello, long story short... Kinda. I got a pre-built gaming PC back in 2017, it ran games really badly from the get-go, I contacted the place I bought it from (Chillblast), I told them everything and they sent me out a replacement GPU (GTX 1080), the issue remained. I contacted them again and they said they could not do anything, not having any options I started to replace parts of the PC over the span of like almost two years, I had replaced everything, so at this point in time, the PC that I have is not the same one that I bought back in 2017, the only thing that is still inside the PC from 2017 is the GPU, I replaced the RAM, Motherboard, CPU, Fans, Case, CPU cooler, SSD, PSU, everything. I even tested out an RTX 2080 and an RTX 2080TI and those did not fix the issues either, which means its nothing to do with the GPU. This is where I need someone's help, every single game I play suffers from fps drops and stuttering, I need to figure out what is causing it but have no idea what I am even supposed to be looking for. I would really appreciate the help as this has been bugging me since 2017 and nothing seems to fix it, no matter what I replace. Also, I recorded some gameplay of Battlefield V and used the MSI Afterburner overlay thing, I have no idea what any of that means so hopefully someone can check it out and let me know if they spot anything that could be causing the issues. Also, just to get a few things out of the way that might get asked: I have reinstalled Windows multiple times, that never helped. I don't have any dodgy programs installed that could be causing the performance issues, I have tried Malwarebytes many times, it never finds any issues. I have XMP turned on, having it on or off changes nothing. Yes, the displayport is connected to the GPU and not the motherboard. SPECS - GTX 1080 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:37 AM PDT Good day, Since some time I've had some very interesting audio issues. The sound randomly starts crackling with occasional dropouts. If I have that issue a restart usually does fix it for the day. I've already reinstalled Windows and all my other programs. My PC was stuck on Blue Screen Loop and now it won't recognize my monitors Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:35 AM PDT My PC was stuck on what seems like an endless Blue Screen Loop (note that I had 2 in the past few days and I managed to "escape" them eventually). Anyways, I was shown a lot of different Blue Screen Error msgs, at least 5 (I'll write all of those I managed to take note of) I01 Initialization Failed, Process1 Initialization Failed, Bad Pool Header, System PTE Misuse, System Thread Exception Not Handled. There were more for sure I just didn't write them down. Anyways, the situation has gotten worse because now while my PC detects my mouse and keyboard (which I can tell by an RGB lighting turning on, PC vents etc) it won't turn on the monitor. Do note that I tried using 3 different monitors (all of which certainly work), with 3 different ports (1 HDMI and 1 DVI port on my graphics card, and 1 HDMI port on my built-in Intel GPU). Thanks a lot for the help! [link] [comments] |
Hearing audio from blue-tooth headphones but video-game audio from speakers? Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:32 AM PDT Hello, my headphones is an Edifier W830BT My pc does not have bluetooth integrated so I'm using an adapter it works perfectly when listening to music on spotify or watching anything on a browser but when I'm playing any video game the audio comes out of the speakers instead of my headphones. I tried going to playback devices and making my headphone default playback instead of speakers that still did not do anything and that is as far as my troubleshooting knowledge goes if theres anymore info you need to help me with my issue please let me know thank you!! But when I try to change it to ANCHI my PC won't boot, maybe because my M.2?? My HDD did work in the past, but I reseted the PC completely. I hope you guys can help me. I will provide additional information when asked. Person who knows the solution can get Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Control for free, got the games when i ordered my 2080S. [link] [comments] |
LAN-port dies at random times and I have no clue why. Help would be appreciated. Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:28 AM PDT Hey guys and gals! I've been having some trouble with my Ethernet-ports the last few months. Last month one of my ports died because of a sudden electrical shock from the fact that we live in an old apartment and had a faulty RCDs (or whatever the name is? Don't really know since i live in sweden). I got some help from a friend who is alot more of a "tech-guy" than me. He help my buy a new port and also helped me install it in to my computer. Under this procedure we realised that we couldnt get the last (now dead) port out with out having to disassemble the whole inside of the computer. So we simply put the new one in and let the old one reamain inside even though it now doesnt work at all. Now to my burning question that i have for all of you here!! The last few days I have been experiencing some weird and random lagspikes. At first I ignored them as I only shoved it off as me, my brothers, my sisters and her boyfriends computers/phones fighting against eachother for the best connection. But now that I'm alone in the house it still happens. So I talked to one of my tech-friends and he said that making my IP-Adress static might help. So we did that but to no avail. Hope you guys might a clue! Sorry for the long read. Just thought that its best to give a deep description on the situation! [link] [comments] |

Transfer issues phobe UFS 3.0 to SSD Posted: 17 Aug 2019 04:01 AM PDT Dear Techsupporters, I'm trying to copy about 70GB's of documents and stuff from my phone (OnePlus 7 Pro) to my PC. My phone has UFS 3.0 (which is fast) and my PC has an SSD (240gb SSD now by kingston) I'm using a USB type C to Type C cable (my mobo has a usb type c port). I've updated/ installed all drivers I could fine (MSI Z270 Sli pro, drivers from site) Transfering goes really slow, estimating 20 hours for 70 GB's. What am I doing wrong? An other cable with a USB 3.1 type a does the same. (And it seems to slow my PC down, my SSD is also the windows drive, but I've got plenty of space left) TLDR: USB type c to type c transfer speeds slow, checked drivers. 70GB 20 hours [link] [comments] |
