Posted: 14 Aug 2019 06:33 PM PDT Some sort of adware has hijacked the Windows notifications posting fake malware protection notifications and cialix ads in the space above the system tray. Example: https://imgur.com/a/zmjDvDd Windows 10 Education - Version. 1903 Build. 18362.10005 Windows Defender:- Security Intelligence Version 1.299.1918.0 last update 2019-08-15 [link] [comments]

Well, the New Cumulative Update Broke our Software :( Posted: 14 Aug 2019 07:53 PM PDT Did Microsoft offered a way to try the individual updates of this new Cumulative Update? I work for a software company (I do tech support, not programming) and the lastest Cumulative Update has broken our software for any customer that had their Windows updated since yesterday. Since it's affecting every customer regardless of their OS version (we've seen it with 7, 8.1, 10, 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 so far), my gut tells me that whatever they did in MSXML is the issue. The reason I suspect MSXML is that if I download msxml6_x64.msi from Microsoft's website and try to use that MSI file to remove MSXML from an unpatched Windows 10 (it fails, but still does something), I get the same issue as our customers get when patching their Windows with the latest Cumulative Update. [Help] All browsers crash once at first time open after restart Posted: 14 Aug 2019 06:19 PM PDT Hi Guys, I need help. I have an un-activated Window 10 Pro. Anytime after I restart my PC, any browser (Chrome, Firefox and Edge) crashes once then work normally. I don't know whether the un-activated status cause the problem or something else more scary. Internet connection dropped out 1903 mid-update Posted: 14 Aug 2019 05:07 AM PDT Hi folks - newbie here. I chose the "Install updates and restart" option. All started well, then it stalled at 27%. At first I was wondering why it took so long, and then I realised that my hotspot had cut out. I switched it back on, but the computer didn't seem to recognise it. I was stuck restarting the computer, at which time I got a "Undoing changes made to your computer" message, then she started up again as usual. I was hoping to be able to try again, but it won't do it on restart, and my updates log says update failed - 0xc1900101. I can't seem to get it to do it again. Does anyone know how I can the updates downloaded? [link] [comments]
Play a custom startup sound in Windows 10 Posted: 14 Aug 2019 06:01 PM PDT Here is an example with Win98 sound 👌 Well, first, don't follow tutorial like this that involves third party tool that would mess around with you system files. It won't work with Win 1903 anyhow. Don't run the tool Startup sound manager they suggest on tutorial found on the net. Guys who write those article, copy each other, are really unqualified and misleading. Read the comments in those tutorials or in tool download page, they warn you. First use a .wav file as sound. Here is the Win98 one to download. If one wants to play any custom sound at startup (as long as it is a wav), it is just simple as creating a task for that. Here is one to import with task scheduler. Save this as Custom Startup Sound.xml, edit the path to the .wav file to play (bottom of the file), and import the task. Voilà ! You can execute the task (context menu) to test (or edit it) and if it works, reboot PC to ear the startup sound.
Bonus, you can import with a command line (edit the path to your xml file): [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Aug 2019 07:03 AM PDT I have been using my 2018 Blade Stealth flawlessly for a few months now. Its home is on my coffee table where it sits undisturbed and asleep while not in use. Last night I opened the lid and everything was slightly bigger. Icons on the desktop were pushed to new places, spacing between menu items had gotten bigger, fonts and titles bars were larger, basically everything. I checked the display settings and the resolution is set to max and the scaling is where it has always been at the recommended 250%. Literally no setting or update has changed since the last time I closed the lid, yet here I am. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Is there a way to force like 24 hours of notice before Windows Update restarts? Posted: 14 Aug 2019 04:55 PM PDT Just lost a bunch of private browser tabs to a Windows update. I have irregular hours, and I woke up this morning to find Windows had restarted during the night, I have Active Hours set 6pm-6am just so it doesn't do it when I'm sleeping, but when I woke up at 7:30 this morning it had already restarted, WTF Is there no way to require Windows to ask for active consent or put up 24 hours notice before doing the restart thing? Even an hour of notice could have given me time to save stuff from the tabs. [link] [comments]

Question about multiple hard drives Posted: 14 Aug 2019 03:03 PM PDT I recently found out that the PC I bought has two extra hard drives that were hidden inside that are untouched. (C:)306/624GB (D:)1.81/1.81TB (E:)1.81/1.81TB I want to find a way to put these other two to use and I wanted to know if it was possible to use one of them essentially as a seperate PC entirely. As in during boot-up I could select which hard drive to boot Windows 10 from and each one would have it's own programs installed, differing settings, ect. I don't know if this is what a boot drive means and Im not sure if the two hard drives are solid state. I'm pretty nooby when it comes to the hardware aspect of computers. I want C: drive to be reserved for work and D: drive reserved for gaming. Not sure if this is possible but please let me know what my options are or how else I should utilize the newly discovered space. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Aug 2019 02:08 PM PDT What reliable places could I get a windows 7 installation disk? I unfortunately have windows 10 automatically with my laptop purchase, and I would like to replace it with windows 7. I looked at ebay, but I'm not sure if the sellers selling it reliable. Also, how do I find a reliable product key if the installation disk doesn't have a product key? [link] [comments]

No internet upon boot for couple of minutes Posted: 14 Aug 2019 01:30 PM PDT I installed a new router (Asus RT AC87U) and after I installed this router I don't have internet for a couple of minutes after booting my PC. It magically fixes itself. When I execute the Windows troubleshooter I get the message: "The proxy settings for this network could not be automatically be detected". How can I solve this? It seems router related. [link] [comments] |
